Work Text:
The soft blue glow of the TV illuminated the entire living room. A half empty bowl of popcorn lay on the small table on Kris's side of the lounge, awkwardly squished against the lamp in a fight for room. They layed awkwardly on the arm rest, the fabric of the lounge being far rougher than their bed. Despite that, they refused to move, as long as Susie wouldn’t wake up along.
She’d already fallen asleep, her head limp on the larger cushion behind her. They found it sort of cute, the kind of way that made their heart flutter a little. They could tell the difference between their heart and their soul and where either sat in their chest. Their soul didn’t start thumping against their ribs when they pulled Susie away from their avatar in that dingy backroom. Just thinking about that, gripping her leather coat, inches away from her face.
Without realising it, Kris had been staring at her for the past few minutes.
She looks cold
As quietly as they could, as to not wake their mother, they crept into their own closet. They went onto their tiptoes and pulled a blanket down. They couldn’t see which one it was, just the one on top of the stack. It was a light green one. Softly, they smiled;
Looks like they found Asriel’s light world form.
Back down they went, blanked folded in their arms. The living room was the same as they left it, only this time Susie was half awake now. Regardless of whether she was awake or not, they unfurled the blanket and watched as it gently floated down to cover her.
“What the hell? What’s all this?” she griped the blanket between the claws on her pointer and thumb.
“You looked cold,” they said matter of factly as they sat back down on the couch.
Susie looked at the blanket, then at Kris. Without knowing it, a faint blush came across her face.
“If I was cold I would’ve gotten it myself” in spite of her words, she settled under the blanket.
Both of them watched the TV, some old movie rerun that neither of them knew the name of. A few beats passed before Susie worked up the courage to speak again.
“Thanks, I guess”
“You’re welcome. Just ask me anything and I’ll give it to you,” they replied in a purposeful double entendre which didn’t help the odd feeling growing in Susie's stomach.
Another few beats. The leads in the film were now trapped inside a gazebo from the rain outside. Susie stared at it listlessly, less because she cared about what she was watching but because she didn’t want to look at Kris. She mentally chastised herself,
Why was she like this. Its just a blanket. Getting worked up like this made her look dumb.
She turned to Kris, and Kris looked right back at her. They were isolated on their side of the lounge, ruby eyes half closed from sleep.
“You look sad, sitting there by yourself” she said “Get your ass over here”
They immediately obeyed her request, crawling across to her side before lifting the blanket up and settling underneath. They kept a few inches or so between them and Susie. The two of them were flustered regardless. She could feel their presence, the way the cushion underneath them gave way to their body weight and the warmth radiating from their body. She saw a small grin from the side of their face.
“Happy with yourself, aren’t you?”
“Quite”
Without another word, Kris laid their head on her shoulder. Susie froze for a moment, the sudden weight taking her off guard. Their hair brushed against the side of her neck; soft and overwhelming with the scent of apples, getting caught in her scales.
Susie rested her own head on their own. Together they made a stack. Her head was noticeably bigger than their own, making them feel overwhelmed- in a good way. They could feel their heart racing again, tapping against their ribcage. They wanted to sink into her more, wrap their arms around her body and purse their mouth against her neck. The two of them had only truly began to know each other two days ago, yet-
Her body started vibrating, followed by a great rumbling noise. She’d fallen asleep. Across their chest, she held them like a sort of plush toy. She was leaning her weight on them too, which only made them feel a little crushed.
They watched the TV. The two leads were now out from the gazebo, at some fancy looking house, saying their goodbyes, promising to meet again.
They loved each other.
