"Steven, may I ask you a question?"
Her voice was quiet, piercing the silence of their hotel room as they went through their nightly rituals, preparing for bed.
He immediately redirected his attention towards her at the call of his name then, giving a small smile.
"Of course, Lucy. What's on your mind?"
"Well..." she set down her hairbrush and stood from where she'd been sitting in front of her vanity, crossing the room over to him. "You once told me I looked a lot like a girl you'd almost married, many years ago. Had you... ever planned to have children, before her passing?"
Steven seemed surprised by the direction this conversation had taken, but didn't interrupt her, letting her finish her sentence before taking a moment to think.
"I have to admit I hadn't been expecting you to ask about this... I suppose we would've had children, had things worked out. What made you think of this?"
Lucy glanced away then, unable to make eye contact with Steven as she spoke again.
"Well... Admittedly, I'm not quite sure myself. Recently, after all that happened in the race, I've been thinking about when I was pregnant with the corpse head. It was terrifying, and unexpected, but it also felt... like a blessing."
Steven's face twisted in confusion. "What do you mean? Lucy, I-"
"I want to have your child, Steven." she declared boldly then, finally making eye contact with him once more as she seated herself by him on the bed, resting her hand on top of his. "You were never able to father a child before, so please let me be the one to bear your children... You've done so much for me, so I want to do this for you."
Steven was shocked into silence for a long minute, staring at Lucy with an open jaw as he attempted to process her words.
"L-Lucy... You're too young for such things!", was the first protest out of his mouth, withdrawing his hand from beneath Lucy's, if just in pure shock. "At your age, I don't... I can't recommend pregnancy, let alone the i-implications...!" the mere thought of touching Lucy enough to get her pregnant had him feeling slightly faint.
"Steven... Please trust me."
"I do trust you, Lucy, but I simply just... You're far too young, and I can't even imagine touching you like- l-like that...!"
She'd been expecting protests, but nothing so persistent. She knew he was only trying to think in her best interests, but she only wished for him to see things in a different light... So, she simply quieted him by leaning in suddenly, pressing a soft, chaste kiss to his lips instead of any more words. It seemed to do the job, their mouths pressed firmly together before Lucy finally pulled away again, her lips tingling.
"There... I've made up my mind, and shown you my point. And my first kiss, as well." she whispered, then.
But she didn't seem bothered by it, and instead... She gave a little giggle, breaking out into a little smile.
Steven was as good as dead to the world, however, staring down at Lucy in shock. He'd taken her first kiss... Without meaning to. "O-oh, Lucy, your first kiss! I...I'm so sorry-"
She cut him off again, this time simply pressing a finger to his lips. "It's okay. Don't be sorry... I'm not."
Steven's heart swelled then, watching the girl in front of him with a clear fondness in his eyes. "Ah...."
"I'll wait for you to make a decision, but for now..." Lucy moved suddenly again then, crawling onto the bed and reaching out to take Steven's hand in her own again, gently pulling him over towards where she lay, golden hair splayed out on the pillows, framing her face like a halo of heavenly light. "Let's go to sleep."
He gave a little sigh then, glancing down at where she lay on the bed and carefully laying down next to her, stiffly until he felt a small arm wrap around his waist, quickly melting through his defenses. He relaxed all at once, unable to help a heavy blush as Lucy pressed another kiss to his cheek.
"...You're too good for me. I don't deserve you."
"Hush, you know that's not true. Good night, Steven."
"Good night, Lucy."
