Chapter Text

To whom this may concern. This letter is to my best friend.

To you, ---. I can't help but miss you with all my heart. Your messages over time, you've been apart from me, fill me with a warmth I can't comprehend. More and more, I can't help but find your smile in everyone else's. I can't help but listen to strangers' voices to find yours. I know your old home here in this country, where I am stuck, is nothing but a shell of the home you had once before.

As we grow old together in separate lives, separate environments. No man, no woman, no child, no god compares to your presence. You bring the colour and light into my life, I wish the people you choose to surround yourself with for your new life without me personally being there. Enjoy growing through your school life with you, as much as I did growing up with you. I go through my childhood photos, and find photos of you before I even befriended you. Your beauty seeps through like a magnolia in May through those very photos. I can't help but admire you in all forms and ages. ---, with time passing through us. I hope we don't drift apart as the others we had grown up with. I've noticed your hair has gotten longer in those new photos you've posted. Your hair is still the colour of those roasted macadamia nuts I had accidentally bought in the nearest convenience store.
Though you hate your hair, I love it dearly. The way it sways in the wind brings more joy than you know, times I've seen it blow in the wind on a summer's day where the sky is blue as the sea. I think you're etheral, in all your movements. Your eyes are like blue pearls, the way they light up when we talk about your interests. I love watching your pupils dilate as you talk about your latest idol crush.

I miss you dearly; only you could understand me more than myself. You knew my tastes and fears; I don't know how I can live without you. I go to your favourite park and sit on your bench, imagining it's you sitting next to me. There's this girl in our- I mean, my school who has the same humour as you. She's a young one, a first year. She braids my hair, she says it makes me look pretty. I can't help but think of you. She's almost identical.
You both go red at the more flustering things, I can't help but care for her as if it were you. I hope I'm doing good, for she is the you ---, I can keep. I know it's selfish to use someone for the closure I have for you. --- I can't help it. I yearn for your touch, I long to hear your voice once again.

To you. The strange girl I grew up with.
