Ink sprawled across messy pages of handwriting, Sasuke Uchiha incensed, his pen decided to detonate all over the latest letter. He threw the pen away with utmost disinterest and picked through the letters individually. Eventually, he came across one, which would definitely please his parents.
Dear Parents,
I am so grateful for this opportunity to change myself. I've just arrived. Everyone is very nice. This is already more than I could ask for. I'm starting to take a liking to this place. I haven't met my roommate yet, but I'm pleased to know that someone else is going to take this life changing journey with me.
I can't wait to make new friends and get closer to God with the help of others. They've already told us about how each day works. First, if I want to eat breakfast, I have to tell them something I learned the night before. But they say lunch won't be served if certain requirements aren't met. Same with dinner.
Deep down, I truly understand that this is the only way to get closer to the right pathway. I can't wait to see you all again once I'm cured. Love you all.
Sincerely,
From Sasuke Uchiha.
Disbelief curled his lips upwards as he erupted with laughter. Did I actually write this nonsense? A loud unwavering knock resounded, and Sasuke eyed the door with annoyance. The person beyond the door seemed impatient. They knocked continuously. “Can't you fucking wait?” Sasuke muttered in irritation.
After heading over to the door, he opened it to reveal a boy around his age wearing an orange and black jacket, zipped halfway to reveal his inner black t-shirt accompanied by black trousers. What's with the unflattering outfit? Sasuke looked the boy up and down with distaste. “Hey I'm Naruto, Naruto Uzumaki. Your roommate.”
My roommate? “Oh. I'm Sasuke.” He skipped over his surname to avoid attention and moved out of the doorway to let Naruto in. Naruto stopped in his tracks, disbelief written all over his face. Sasuke waved his hand in front of Naruto,"Are you feeling okay? Do you need help with the suitcase or something?” Naruto shook his head,”Stay outside then."
Smugly, Sasuke reached to close the door, Naruto noticed and feverishly spoke,“You.. you're an Uchiha, aren't you?” Sasuke knew this would happen eventually, Naruto pointed inside to a fully black suitcase with a small symbol. “I spotted the logo on your suitcase.. and assumed most people who come here wouldn't be able to afford it unless..”
“Unless Im a Uchiha?” This felt like a public humiliation ritual. They'd paired him up with an enthusiastic person, who also happened to be a detective. All the effort his parents took to send him to a conversion camp in another country, where two of his family members worked to make sure the media didn't get their hands on such information, was futile. This camp was where most people sent their kids if they'd saved up for years, Naruto's deduction skills were good, to say the least.
There wasn't any point in hiding his identity now. Another suitcase entered the small dormitory,“Who would've imagined the Uchiha's send their children to conversion camps?” Sasuke didn't respond. The reason for his demise resurfaced, cursed memories of late intimate nights and deaths unwittingly graced his mind. Dishevelled white hair ran through his fingers, whilst every scar received a kiss.
“Something on your mind?” Clothes softly landed on Naruto's side of the cupboard, Sasuke shot him a look of displeasure. ”Don't worry, I'll fold them later.” He ignored Naruto, putting the letter in an envelope. “I didn't know we were allowed to write letters.” He suspiciously gazed at the letter in Sasuke's hands.
“We can write letters. I'm writing to my parents.” He observed how Naruto's eyes were alight with curiosity and simply couldn't help himself,”I know you want to read it.” Sasuke kept a sense of security by giving Naruto one condition,”But if you read my letter, I want to read your letters too.” Nonetheless, he didn't know why such an inclination overcame him. Naruto nodded obediently like some feral dog.
Accordingly, he took the letter, his hands brushing against Sasuke's cold ones. He opened Sasuke's letter with delicacy,”Dear parent-” Sasuke snatched his letter back, his face contouring into distress. Naruto pouted,”That's not fair c'mon Sasukeee-”
“Why would you read it aloud?” He shoved his letter back into Naruto's hands,”Just don't read it aloud.” Naruto felt like he'd just seen Sasuke's mask slip. Just for him. He laughed stupidly to himself. “What's so interesting?” Sasuke asked, thinking Naruto was sniggering at his letter.
“Nothing..” He handed Sasuke's letter back,”I skimmed it." A smirk tugged at his lips,"You don't mean any of it," The corner of his mouth lifted in a lopsided grin."You really are something." Sasuke couldn't hold himself together.
"As if you're going be so honest and truthful in your letter." He crossed his arms, unsatisfied with Naruto's reaction. "Don't act so saintly." Sasuke sealed the envelope and set it aside on their shared desk, then laid out a pen and lined paper for Naruto. "Let's see how yours is then." Obediently Naruto sat down, and easily started to write a letter. Sasuke stared at the paper, appalled.
"Your handwriting.. how can anyone read that?" Naruto shrugged. Like a fox toying with unwanted food, Naruto simply couldn't care less for this letter of his. "You're making your writing unreadable.. on purpose?" Sasuke seemed to inevitably connect the dots. "I didn't expect you to be so sly."
"Are you saying you're judging a book by its cover?" Sasuke rolled his eyes at that old reused joke. He didn't care to entice Naruto to tell anymore. In fact, it'd be a miracle if he never told a joke again. "You don't like my jokes? I didn't expect you to be so boring." The dark-haired scoffed at Naruto comment.
"You have too much audacity." Sasuke found Naruto's audacity alluring, although he'd never truly admit it. He looked around the room as he waited for Naruto to finish. "The sun's setting.." Naruto painfully looked up at Sasuke, who obviously hadn't noticed. "It's kind of the same colour as your clothes." Red hair and a heartfelt smile replaced Sasuke. Naruto experienced a heart churning hallucination. He said the exact same thing..
The pen fell, catching Sasuke's attention,"I'll write the letter another time." Naruto made started to unpack the rest of his suitcase, leaving Sasuke detached. "Ya know.. this is kind of tiresome.." He yawned dramatically,"I think this is a job for tomorrow." A thud echoed throughout the room, Naruto landed swiftly upon his bed. "I'm going to bed."
Dark eyes gazed into blue ones,"Isn't it a little early?" Naruto dismissively waved his hand as if to say, I don't care leave me alone. "Well, suit yourself then." A rustle made Naruto turn back around to see Sasuke putting on shoes."I'm going to get some air." He opened the door, Naruto called after him.
"Don't stay out too late. You know we have an early start tomorrow."
