In the isolated lands of South Island, peace had always been something fragile — like the whisper of the morning breeze that ran through the hills of endless green.
Here, an eleven-year-old hedgehog lived all by himself, accompanied only by his friends — the Flickies, Tiny animals that filled the valley with color and life.
As the sun rose, bathing the cliffs and waterfalls in golden light, Silver dashed across the fields. His silver quills shimmered under the sunlight as he used his telekinetic powers to jump from rock to rock, laughing softly every time the wind lifted him higher.
He was looking for his Flickie friends when a faint sound reached his ears — a flutter, then a thud. Turning toward the noise, Silver gasped as a wounded Flickie collapsed before him, its small wings trembling.
Hey, hey, easy!” he whispered, kneeling beside it. His hands glowed faintly with psychic energy as he tried to ease its pain. “What happened to you?”
The tiny bird, struggling, lifted a trembling wing and pointed toward the east, where smoke was rising beyond the hills.
Silver’s expression hardened.
Who dares to hurt my friends?
He gently set the bird in a safe nest of leaves. “Hang in there. I’ll be back.”
Then, with a burst of psychic propulsion, he shot forward — stones and grass swirling behind him as he raced toward the smoke.
As Silver crossed the valley, the air grew heavy. The scent of burning oil replaced the smell of flowers. When he reached the top of a hill, he froze.
Below, mechanical insects — ladybugs, centipedes, bees — were attacking the wildlife. They grabbed frightened animals, sealing them inside metallic capsules that pulsed with energy.
Silver clenched his fists, anger flooding his chest.
“Whoever’s doing this… will be stopped!” he shouted.
Without hesitation, he lifted several boulders into the air. The stones hovered for a moment, glowing blue — then shot forward like comets, smashing into the machines. Metal parts scattered, sparks flying.
But when the smoke cleared, Silver’s heart sank.
From inside the broken robots, small Flickies fell out — weak, but alive.
“What…? They were inside all along?” he murmured, horror dawning on him.
He stared at the mechanical wreckage — the way it pulsed faintly with energy, like a heart that shouldn’t beat. Then, quietly, he made a vow.
“Whoever did this… won’t go unpunished.”
Silver took a deep breath, brushed the dust from his fur, and pressed onward — toward the source of the destruction, unaware that this would be the first step of a journey that would change the fate of time itself.
