Chapter Text
"We found him in the Dark Lands." Just as I rested on my throne, the Shy Guys troops brought a green human to me. The overall, the mustache and hat with a letter on it — no doubt that this thing could be related to the human Kamek told me about. Curiously enough, I took each step off the throne, walking toward to take a closer look at what was brought. Seeing me getting closer to him, the troops all took steps back. I could see they were just as curious as I was. However, it took a while for the guy to get up, as though he was injured, which couldn't be the case. I'd told all of them—the minions — not to hurt him in any way possible. It was my job to do so, not theirs. Although there was no sign of blood, bruises or injuries, there definitely was something going on.
As he lifted his body and saw mine. The human yelped out. "Wah!" Interesting. Certainly, I would be surprised, or scared, too, if I were to find such a huge handsome Koopa king right in front of me. Kamek then used his wand to bring him up just about my height so it could be easier for me to examine whatever or whoever this guy was. "What is your name?" I asked the human, who would then reply with a nervous, out-of-breath stutter. "L-Luigi?" Looking at it now, he really was so small compared to me. I could kill him in just a single hit. "Not sure if you know who I am, but I am about to marry the princess." The green man gasped out as I sharpened my nail and lifted his chin. Gently, I reminded myself. I wouldn't want to hurt such a precious being yet. It would be a shame to see such a beautiful face go to waste — well, not as much of a beautiful face as Peach's, I supposed. Expect that, before I could get any more answers out of him, he was breathing rather fast and started to become slightly paler than earlier. Were humans like this when they were scared? "Kamek, what was wrong with him?" I asked my adviser.
Kamek shrugged it aside, not taking it seriously. "He's probably just scared by your presence, your highness!" I must admit that I was a little panicked seeing the greenie being like this, as I had very little knowledge of humans and didn't want to kill him this fast yet. I took a look at Luigi again. It seemed like he could pass out any second. If I didn't do anything now, he would die. "KAMEK, I DEMAND YOU TO GET YOUR BUTT HERE AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS OR ELSE." Kamek jumped before quickly getting near Luigi to check him out, to see if there was anything wrong with him. "I-I don't see there is anything... He seems fine to me, sir?!" Just as when I was about to reply, I noticed his body started to go limp, his eyes started to close. Did he just...faint?
"O-oh...Oh, crap." Kamek mumbled to himself before using his wand, slowly putting the green plumbler down the cold floor. Did, did I just indirectly kill this guy? That was the question I asked myself. That was until I let out a sigh of relief hearing Kamek's words. "He's breathing." I almost thought for sure that I could feel my heart stopped — wait, what was wrong with me? Why was it that I suddenly cared for him now? Bah, maybe I was thinking too much. It was not important. I only had one and only true love. It was Peach. Not this guy, for sure.
Seeing I had no use for him at the current moment. I decreed the minions — mainly Kamek, to throw him in the cage... I told the adviser of mine to make it atleast comfortable for him to rest there as well. Not that I have any intention of being good to him, but so that I could get to interrogate him as soon as possible.

Oh...
What a huge mistake I made. Who could've predicted that kidnapping the brother of a red, fat plumber would've ended up with me being beaten up. And the worst part of it? It all happened right in front of my darling, Peach. And as if the stars from the vast high skies decided to punish me — I was forced to eat a mini-mushroom, then became mini-sized. How great. I'd swear to myself, if I ever got the chance to get out of this cage, which I would, that Mario guy would pay for what he had done to me, and for my pride, the pride of the Koopa king. "Where is that Mario guy? Where is he?!" I demanded whilst shaking the bar of the cage as hard as I could, so that I had a chance of breaking out. Luigi — the green guy I meant. He was preparing his tools, his clothes for something which I couldn't tell. Was he going out? Did that mean I'd be left alone and so Kamek could try and save me?! Finally, some good news after what felt like an eternity here.
"Mario is gone for the weekend," Luigi told me while he was still putting on his boots, finding his tools such as a shovel, a water can and a few others which I couldn't name. I wasn't really a person for dirty and cheap jobs. Of course, I wouldn't know. I am a king after all. Sitting on the pillow which he decided to put in here for me — actually, if there was anything I was grateful or happy for, it would be that I was pretty well-kept here. Atleast under the care of this green guy. I was well-feeded, his cooking skills were out of this world, he made my cage extremely comfortable, almost to the point where I believed that this could be my second bedroom. While I was lost in my thoughts for a moment before snapping out of it as I felt my cage was being put up. "Hey, put me down! Where do you think you're taking me to?!" I shouted, and I could've sworn he probably had a smile on him when picking on me like this. "I thought you might be lonely, staying here all by yourself. That's why I'm bringing you with me!" Clearly, he did not answer my question. I would argue with him, annoying the hell out of him until he freed me if I could, but alas, looking at it now, it was like talking to a wall with this guy — I didn't think it'd be worth my time doing that. When he was finished with everything, he opened the door, carrying my cage outside with him before I heard a clicking sound of the door being locked.
It was in the middle of noon. The sun shined through the entire Mushroom Kingdom as the wind blew down the path we were going. I could hear the sound of leaves rustling, birds' chirping, and sometimes, a Cheep Cheep caught my eyes as I looked into the river. It was simple, quiet, and while quietness wasn't my style, it was nice and refreshing to stay away from the busy, "ruling" chores for once. Luigi picked a much less crowded passageway so that we could have a better chance of chatting without people looking at us weirdly. Yet, I wasn't the one to start the conversation first, it was not like I had anything to chat about in the first place — I wanted to get out, not to be a listener to this Greenie. By the stars, it was pretty painful to hear this guy yapping — but, I did enjoy the sound of his voice, his company somewhat. Better than nothing, I guess. None of what he had said really caught my attention, except for when the mention of the red guy caught my ear: "You know, Mario wouldn't have allowed me to do this. Going out without him."
"What do you mean? Are you that much of a baby for him to take care of?" I asked sarcastically before letting out a huge laugh. I was hoping to see the weeping sadness or the cute red annoyance on his face. Although, a part of me did want to know why, too. Instead, I was met with a smile, a kind one at that. "Haha, no, no, that's not it. He's just worried about me." I loved how he answered my question without really answering anything. I asked him quite a number of questions related to it again, but none answer did I receive. Was he trying to hide something from me? Not that it mattered. I fell in my thoughts soon as I looked into the hills from afar.
The thoughts would catch me and I ended up falling asleep on the way. It was Greenie who would then wake me up by shaking my cage slightly. "We're here," he said. I rubbed my eyes from the sleepiness, whilst still half-asleep, looking at the scene before me. I was then met with something which I told myself I was still dreaming. A field of golden sunflowers was met right in front of my eyes—like a fresh painting of summer. The wind was blowing through my hair as I was still speechless. Never in my life had I met with such a view. I then heard Luigi's giggle. He would later put my cage down the hill which was right near the field — by then, I got to see the full view of him along with it. He was wearing an olive shirt with his slightly paled overalls, though, the one I seemed to notice most was the cute brimmed hat on him. "Do you like it?" His question caught me up. I knew not why my cheeks were heated up by the seemingly normal question. What was this feeling? I coughed, then replied to him: "Of course not. These views were nothing compared to what we have, what I have in the Darklands!" Luigi then would just roll his eyes with a smile as he brought out his gardening tools. "So, why are we here, anyway? Don't you have better things to do?" Greenie shook his head and took out a bottle of water spray, spraying it all over the stems and leaves of the sunflowers. "Nope. I'm tired of staying home all day." Yeah yeah, how ironic. It was not like I wasn't being trapped in a literal cage. I was terrible at gardening so I couldn't seem to know most of the job he was doing. Could you blame me though? Me? Interested in gardening? But based on my very basic knowledge of gardening, what he was doing consisted of taking care of the sunflowers, getting rid of the insects. As though, I did enjoy seeing him gardening, especially under the sunlight.
I wasn't expecting for this to turn into a conversation all while Luigi was taking care of the flowers. We were chatting, and weirdly enough. I liked it more than I thought I would ever do. He would then teach some basic levels of taking care of sunflowers and, overall, flowers, plants in general. I was told that although this field of sunflowers was pretty, no one really bothered to take care of it, similarly to the Fire Flowers—Yet, the Fire Flowers field was fine with not being taken care of as it was pretty much just power-ups, but it unfortunately wasn't the case for this field. During summer or times like this, insects were most active, and as expected, this field was the victim of it. "It hurts me to see pesky little things destroy these beauties." I could hear the annoyance in his tone, it was pretty cute to see him worried over stuff like this. "Why worry? You could always buy more flowers." Luigi shook his head slightly before watering the flowers. He would reply with a soft, almost soothing tone: "These sunflowers are special to me," but before I even thought of asking why, he continued: "As for why... It's a secret!" He winked, then pointed the fingergun at me.
The sun started to set as the last rays of sunlight of the day shone over the flowers. It was all a lovely, out of this world view. I'd like to imagine the sunflowers were about to go to sleep with the sun setting. The wind of a summer sunset blew through my hair and my body was rather nice. And Luigi was there with me, resting from all the gardening work. We were watching throughout the charming show of sundown by the hill, underneath the tree. None of us talked much, just a few words now and then, yet, somehow, it felt enough. "One thing I love about flowers is that," he looked at me, and I met his gaze. A gentle gaze with tenderness on the smile of his. It was getting somewhat darker, but not much, yet, his eyes shone bright through it. My heart was beating, and I didn't know why. I could feel the drop of sweat on my forehead when he looked at me like this, and I could feel my cheeks start to burn too. Luigi then continued: "Flowers can be your best pals. They will listen to everything you confess to them, and the best thing? They won't tell anyone!"
