    Summary

December 2…Last night I slept in the bathtub, I can't bring myself to sleep in that bed.

I can't even bring myself to leave this room. Just like at the circus… even though I can leave, it just isn't safe. It isn't even safe in here, maybe it’s worse than at the circus… yes… without anyone to go back to, this is surely worse…

It's selfish of me to say that I’d want to go back to those days. It was a nightmare being at that circus, either being locked in that room or being laughed at in a performance… Even when Bernard stopped locking the door to my room, I spent most of my time in there when I wasn't with the boars. It's hard to break a routine that you've been doing for years… maybe that's why it took me so long to leave.

    “Okay. Good night,”

“Good night.” Murro closed his eyes, but was still wide awake. He heard the girl shuffle around as time passed by, eventually calming down into soft snores. She tugged away the blanket into her own embrace, leaving Murro with just a little sliver. He didn't mind, it wasn't too cold anyway.

He flinched when little fingers grabbed at his shirt from behind. He turned his head, keeping his body still to check if the girl was still sleeping. Her face wasn’t visible at the angle he was at but he could see that she had rolled to face the same direction as him, nestled up against him. Her forehead pressed against his back, and Murro found the warmth to be unsettling. He was so used to the cold…

He didn't want to move and wake her up, but he really couldn't fall asleep with someone grabbing at his back… he turned to face her instead. She was sound asleep, all curled up with her hands by her head. The moonlight outlined her face, oh how innocent she was. He noticed a tear slip through her closed eyelids, although her expression remained the same: a peaceful resting face. Sighing, he wiped the tear away. Poor girl, what could she be dreaming about to make her cry?

He wanted to hug her, and tell her that everything would be alright.
