The worst part isn’t the loss of the rib; it’s the loss of the touch, the intimate exchange, the act that bound them in a way no one else could ever reach. God’s absence in that space is worse than any wound.
The most painful thing of all is knowing that the Creator had touched him once, and will not do so again.
