Work Text:

It wasn't dark that day, nor was it rainy or cloudy. Not that Matt could see it anyways, but it was mid-day, perfectly normal weather. Frank almost wished it was, just because it would be a better excuse for how he was feeling at the moment. His… girlfriend, hook-up, whoever she'd been to him, they'd broken up. He ran a hand through his short brown hair, which was shaved on the sides, letting out a deep sigh. It was sad, but Frank was used to being broken up with at this point, all happened at the same time in the relationship too. Around the second or third date he'd start opening up about his passion and interest in guns, and would even happily offer to show his small collection of the ones he loved taking apart just to re-assemble. But, when he did, the women got uncomfortable due to the idea of being around a man who liked guns as much as he did. Which wasn't unreasonable, but… it hurt. Eh, who was he kidding? A big, ex-military man like himself shouldn't be getting upset over such... silly things. So he stuck on his chunky headphones, starting to blast metal music as he allows himself to zone out, his eyes becoming intimately familiar with the wall. It must have been several minutes, maybe even a couple hours, before his roommate Matthew Murdock returned from all his pre-law classes and whatnot.

He only really came back into awareness when the relatively well built man tapped him on the shoulder for the third time. He took his headphones off, looking slightly up at the auburn haired male who currently hovered over him. Frank could tell he was watching him, even though Matt was essentially completely blind, and was wearing his circular red-tinted sunglasses as usual. "Frank, don't lie to me. I know something's up with you." He starts in a semi-accusatory tone. "I could feel that your... vibes were off from halfway down the hallway." Of course he did. The blind bastard had a way of knowing far too much, more than anyone expected him to ever know. He heard more than he let on, too. He could hear the entire building, and even farther if he tried hard enough. Frank knew because Matthew had confessed this secret to him after coming back from drinking with his friends Foggy and Page. Matt could even tell how people were feeling, predict movements to some degree, and tell when people were lying depending on the noises their bodies made. It was kinda cool, and Frank respected him for not using it to hurt others. It was a really impressive skill, although Frank was pretty sure Matt kept the information to himself because it created a certain discomfort in people, knowing they were around a man who could determine lies with 100% accuracy.

Francis takes his hands out of his brown hair, giving Matthew an exasperated look despite knowing he couldn't see his annoyance. Although considering that damn ginger literally sensed that his vibes weren't good, he probably knew damn well just how great of a time Frank was having. Spoiler alert: it was shit, a shit time and a shit situation. "Okay, fine." He huffs. "My date told me we're done. We were gonna go to prom together, man..." He shakes his head, clenching a fist in anger. "Like, you know? It's the same damn fucking thing every time I have a date. I try to talk to them about my guns and they leave. I understand by why can't anyone just accept this part of me? Like shit, man, it's genuinely pissing me off." He crosses his arms, looking at a toy replica gun that he had up on the wall, letting out a sad chuckle. The ginger haired male squeezes Frank's shoulder, his other hand hanging at his side idly. "I don't mind your guns, if that means anything to you." He admits. "The sound of you disassembling and reassembling them has become quite relaxing to me." He smiles slightly, looking a bit embarrassed to say this sort of thing to him. "I mean, it's also nice to hear someone get so passionate about something they love. It's the same for you. Your guns are a hobby, not a lifestyle. And, if they can't see that, maybe they were never worth it."

Frank's blue eyes blink slowly, getting up from his chair to pull Matt in for a tight hug: "Wow, man... you really get me. You're like that too, you know? You're so passionate about law, about the truth and justice, and helping bad people get what's coming to them." Since he was hugging his roommate, he didn't see the green eyed male beginning to blush. After a short pause in the conversation, Frank continues. "I really respect that, man. You just have this crazy, inspiring conviction about you. Maybe the world would be a better place if there were more people like you in it." And then he blushes too, because why the hell was he being so sappy on a random goddamn weekday? Matthew pulls away from him respectfully, and they both just stand in silence, facing each other with a million unspoken words between them. "So..." The auburn haired male coughs awkwardly, rubbing the back of his head. "I'm guessing you already bought the non-refundable tickets for yourself and her?" He questions as if he already knew the answer. Which, to be fair, it was an easy assumption to make. "I'd introduce you to my friend Page but she's dating my old pal Foggy and I don't really wanna mess with that. Got um... anyone else in mind?"

Frank raises an eyebrow, giving his roommate a look that was simultaneously annoyed and confused. He replies, "What do you think, dumbass? I just got broken up with, and I'm a loyal man to any girl, any dude who's dating me. Why would I have anyone else in mind?" The slightly taller male coughs awkwardly at that, his green eyes darting around unseeingly. "Okay, yeah. That's fair. My bad, man." He agrees, holding up his hands in defeat. "I do have plenty of nice suits since I'm working on my pre-law degree so I can move on to law school... but I don't really think I was thinking about going, you know?" He pauses for a moment, thinking on the words he wants to say: "I want someone to invite me for me, Frank. Not because I'm handsome or mysterious, or whatever stupid surface level stuff that makes them interested in me. I'm not some... freak show to be gawked at." The black haired male laughs to himself, "Looks like we're both fresh out of luck and prom dates, eh Matty?" He quips, a smile coming back onto his face. They both sit in silence for a while, his roommate running a hand over his different suits to pick out an outfit. "I'm thinking grey suit jacket, black tie, white shirt. Now only if I could remember which one is which..." Murdock mumbles to himself as he lingers near the closet on his side of the room, where his suits sat on hangers.

"Murdock, the hell are you picking out a suit for?" Francis questions, having headed over to watch his roommate at the closet. "You just said you ain't got a prom date. What are you setting up for, the 2025 Delusion Meet?" He barks out a laugh, amused by his own dumb joke. Matt finally finds his full outfit (because he'd pressed braille into all his clothes' tags), setting it down on his bed: "Well, it's killing two birds with one stone isn't it? You have one free prom ticket, I want to go to prom with someone who gets me. Do you understand the opportunity here, Franky? You're gonna have wasted that extra ticket money if you don't take someone, so I'm offering a solution." He must've maintained a distinct 'I don't really understand what you're saying' aura, because Matt speaks up again. "We should go to prom together, Frank." He clarifies. "Ah." Frank flusters, his face tinting red as Matthew's words set in. For once, he was lucky that his roommate was blind as hell so that he couldn't see him blushing. "Well I... uh. Damn. You make a lot of sense, Murdock."

         ***********************************************************************************

Frank and Matt arrived at the college gymnasium, where the prom was being held. Matt was wearing the outfit he'd wanted to (grey suit jacket, white shirt, black tie), while Frank wore a black jacket, light grey button up, and a white tie in order to contrast with what Matt was wearing. Francis held Matthew's arm as they lingered outside the gym nervously. Some folks were glancing over at them both before they entered the gym. If there was anyone whispering about the two of them, the ginger beside you was probably hearing it right now. The idea of that alone made the dark brown haired male upset, and he squeezes his friend's arm as he helps him inside. The auburn haired male looks a bit tense as soon as they head inside, popping his headphones in: "It's so loud in here, jeez. This is why I don't like parties..." "Matt, you think those pathetic earbuds are gonna do you well enough for a college party?" He rolls his blue eyes, holding out his thick, heavy duty noise cancelling headphones to the blind male. The taller man's green eyes move around as he tilts his head down so he could take his earbuds off easier, fumbling around with them for a bit before he got them back into their case.

After borrowing Frank's well made headphones, he seems to be able to relax much more. Matt takes Frank's hand in his own, having his dear roommate take him over to the snack table so they could eat a little before they start to dance. The shorter man stares his friend down, a slight tint of pink on his face as they sit in comfortable silence, eating chips and little hors d'oeuvres. They weren't sure what had changed between them or when, but... it was certain as death. There was a certain something in the air between them now, perhaps brought on by the romanticism of the dance. Although the music playing was for partying and not yet for slow dancing, the sudden comfortability seemed... oddly romantic in essence. Both men stop eating at the same time, and their hands stay firmly linked together so Frank could keep his- Matt from getting hurt as they head into the fray of excited, energetic dancers. They dance and dance and dance all night, Matthew chucking joyfully as he moves his body to the noise alone, taking no visual inputs as usual. Francis happily leads him around the dance floor, pulling him close if he ever got too close to bumping into someone. The two only pause to take breaths, heaving in between uncontrollable laughter, the kind that bubbled up inside when having too much fun. And then they paused again.

The slow dancing had begun. The brown haired male and the man with ginger hair stood still, facing each other and feeling the moment wash over them. Matt places his free hand on Frank's waist, Frank's free hand goes to Matt's shoulder, and they both start swaying slowly back and forth, rotating slowly as they walked. Matthew takes his hands off of him, still dancing with him as his green eyes look in Francis' direction, his hands move to cup his face, finally feeling what he looked like without feeling awkward about it. The more muscular looking man, his blue eyes glance at the taller's lips for just a moment, and he feels his heart flutter. He pulls Matt close one more time, giving him a kiss. And, well, Matthew Murdock? He leans closer too, mirroring his friend. He kisses Francis Castle in return.
