Chapter 1: Kei’s Subtle Worries
Chapter Text
Kei Uzuki stood behind the counter at his small but beloved bookstore, arranging books as the late afternoon sunlight filtered through the large windows. It had been a long day, but the familiar scent of old paper and coffee in the air was oddly soothing, making it easier to breathe after a chaotic morning. He shifted his gaze toward the shelves, moving as though on autopilot.
Business had been steady. He had a few regular customers that came by to browse, occasionally chatting with him about new arrivals. Lately, though, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong. Something he couldn’t put his finger on.
The bell above the door jingled softly as a customer stepped in, and Kei instantly put on his usual warm smile, greeting them. But even as he spoke, his thoughts wandered back to Rion Akao, his wife, and how distant she had seemed over the past few days. It had been subtle at first—a missed glance, a quiet dinner. Nothing big enough to raise alarms, but small enough for Kei to notice.
Kei had tried to talk to her about it last night, but she had brushed him off, claiming she was just tired from running errands all day. He wasn’t convinced, but he didn’t press it. Maybe she was just overwhelmed with the responsibilities that came with running their lives, their home, and their business. After all, being married wasn’t just about the good times, was it?
⸻
The customer thanked him as they paid for their book and left, leaving Kei alone once again in the shop. He moved over to the counter, wiping it down with a cloth. His gaze drifted toward the small corner near the window where they kept their stationery. The light was fading, and the dimming atmosphere matched his thoughts perfectly.
Kei sighed, glancing at his phone. No messages from Rion. He figured she was at home, probably resting after her long day. But then, as his mind wandered back to their last dinner together, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease. She had hardly touched her food. She’d poked at her plate a few times before excusing herself, and that was the last he saw of her that night.
She hasn’t been herself lately…
He closed his blue eyes for a moment, shaking his head. It wasn’t like him to overthink things, but lately, it felt like something wasn’t right. The way she had been keeping to herself, not talking as much, avoiding their usual jokes and banter. It wasn’t like Rion to retreat into herself so completely.
Kei ran his fingers through his white hair, trying to focus. He knew he needed to stop worrying so much. It was probably nothing. Still, it gnawed at him, the strange silence between them.
⸻
The bell chimed again, pulling Kei out of his thoughts. Gaku, his friend and more like a brother to him, and now a part-time worker at the store, entered with his usual lazy grin plastered on his face. Gaku barely looked up as he strolled past the shelves, dropping his bag at the counter before making his way to the back corner.
“Hey, Kei,” Gaku called out, already half-sitting on the counter while picking up a Nintendo Switch he’d brought in from home. “Another quiet day, huh?”
Kei’s smile faltered slightly. “Yeah, pretty quiet. How’s your day been?”
Gaku shrugged nonchalantly. “Same old, same old. I’m just here to kill some time. I figure I’ll get in a couple hours of play before you close shop.” He turned on his console, completely absorbed in the game before Kei could even respond.
Kei chuckled softly, shaking his head as he set the rag down. “You’ve been coming here a lot recently. I’m starting to wonder if you’re actually helping me or just avoiding your responsibilities.”
“I’m ‘helping.’ I’m adding atmosphere with my presence,” Gaku replied without missing a beat. “Plus, someone’s gotta keep you company while you worry about… whatever it is you’re worrying about today.”
Kei blinked, his hand resting on the counter. “I’m not—what do you mean? I’m fine.”
Gaku tilted his head, raising an eyebrow. “You sure? You look like you’ve been thinking too much about something.”
Kei hesitated, glancing toward the back of the store. He had a moment of uncertainty, wondering if Gaku had picked up on something he hadn’t even voiced. The truth was, Gaku had always been able to read him in a way that was both frustrating and oddly comforting.
“It’s just… Rion.” Kei ran a hand through his white hair again, the feeling of unease creeping back. “She’s been acting strange lately. I don’t know what’s going on. I asked her about it last night, but she brushed me off. She said she was just tired, but I don’t know.”
Gaku paused the game, setting the console down with an exaggerated sigh. “Oh boy, you’re turning into one of those worried husbands, huh?”
Kei shot him a look. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Gaku leaned back against the counter, a playful grin crossing his face. “Look, man, maybe she’s just stressed. It happens. Everyone has their days, right? Maybe she needs some space or just a little time to herself. Don’t overthink it.”
Kei nodded slowly, his eyes still drifting toward the door, but Gaku’s words didn’t fully reassure him. It didn’t make sense. He knew Rion better than anyone else. Her silence wasn’t like her usual quiet moments. There was something deeper there, something more… withdrawn.
⸻
After closing time, Kei locked up the store and headed home, the uncertainty in his chest only growing. The walk to his house wasn’t long, and as he approached, he could see the faint light spilling from the window of his living room. Rion must be home.
The house was dim, a soft glow from the lamps scattered across the space. But the silence hit him immediately. It wasn’t the warm, welcoming silence that he was used to—it was heavy, somehow.
“Rion?” Kei called softly, slipping his shoes off by the door. He glanced into the kitchen, where he could still see the untouched dinner sitting on the counter. His brow furrowed.
He set down his things and walked into the living room, calling again. “Rion?” Still no answer.
His pulse quickened. The house felt colder than it should, and it left him with an unsettling feeling.
Kei turned to the bedroom, where the door was slightly ajar. He knocked gently, peeking his head inside.
“Rion?” he asked again.
Rion was sitting at the edge of the bed, her face buried in her hands. She looked up at him with tired eyes, offering him a weak smile. “Sorry. I didn’t hear you come in.”
Kei walked over to her and gently touched her shoulder. “You okay?”
Rion gave a small, almost imperceptible nod. “Yeah. Just tired. It’s been a long day.”
Kei sat beside her on the bed, searching her face. He could see the exhaustion in her eyes, but there was more—something that she wasn’t saying. He had to ask.
“You’re not telling me something,” Kei said softly. “Rion, what’s going on?”
Rion hesitated for a moment, her eyes flickering with something Kei couldn’t quite place. “I just… I just need some time to think, Kei. It’s nothing. Don’t worry about it.”
Kei opened his mouth to argue, but he stopped himself. He could see that she wasn’t ready to talk. Still, the unease in his chest wouldn’t go away.
He leaned in and kissed her forehead gently. “Okay. But when you’re ready to talk, I’m here.”
Rion nodded again, leaning against him. “Thanks, Kei. I’ll be okay.”
But Kei didn’t feel reassured. He only felt more uncertain. There was something she wasn’t saying, something that lingered in the silence between them. And until she told him, he wouldn’t rest easy.
Chapter 2: Akira’s Discovery
Summary:
This chapter quietly shows how much Akira has grown since Rion left to live with Kei. Once a girl who only watched and learned, Akira has now become a capable manager who carries the salon’s rhythm with ease. Every scent, sound, and movement inside the salon business feels familiar to her — proof that she has truly made the place her own, which makes Rion proud of her.
Notes:
2nd chapter is out. Enjoy reading!
This focuses on the inner changes between Akira and Rion, while giving us a glimpse of the larger “family” that surrounds and supports them.
Chapter Text
Akira had always admired the salon. When Rion had first opened it, it had felt like a dream come true—a dream of building something from the ground up, a place where people could not only come to get their hair styled but find a sense of community. It was their little slice of peace, and over time, Akira had learned every inch of the business. From the way the shampoo station smelled like fresh lavender, to how the floor creaked just a little by the back entrance, everything about it had become second nature to her.
Now, a year after Rion had moved in with Kei, Akira had assumed full responsibility for the salon. It hadn’t been easy—managing the day-to-day was a lot to handle—but she’d done it with pride. She had grown into her role more than she’d ever expected, finding joy in every customer that walked through the door. As the new manager, she felt the weight of the business on her shoulders, but she was no longer a child looking up to her aunt. She had become her own person, capable and strong.
⸻
It was late morning when Akira looked up from the desk, her focus disrupted by the sound of the bell above the door jingling. She glanced toward the front of the salon, her lips curling into a smile as she recognized the visitor.
“Hey, Aunt Rion,” Akira called, her voice warm as she put down the clipboard she’d been looking at.
Rion smiled, her usual soft expression tinged with a hint of weariness. She had been coming around more often lately, offering to help out with the customers and take a little weight off Akira’s shoulders. Akira could tell her aunt wasn’t doing it just to help her, but also to ease her own mind. Rion wasn’t the type to sit still for long, and even though she had moved away to live with Kei, the salon had been a large part of her life for so long. It was her creation, after all.
“Just wanted to stop by and see how things are going,” Rion said, slipping off her jacket and hanging it on the coat rack. She glanced around the bustling salon, where the stylists were finishing up with their clients.
“It’s going well,” Akira replied, a hint of pride in her voice. “We’ve got a steady flow of customers today. Everything’s running smoothly.”
Rion nodded approvingly. “I’m glad. You’re doing a great job, Akira. I’ve always known you’d be good at this.”
Akira’s cheeks flushed a little at the praise, but before she could respond, the door opened again, and Kumanomi entered with her usual cheerful energy. Her short, bob hair bounced as she greeted Akira.
“Hey, Akira! Everything going smoothly here?” Kumanomi asked as she made her way to the reception area. She always brought an extra dose of energy into the room, lighting it up like a firecracker.
Akira smiled warmly. “Yeah, it’s going great. Just another normal day.”
Kumanomi grinned, giving Rion a quick wave before walking toward the back of the salon. “I’ll grab a seat and wait for you to finish, Akira. I just wanted to stop by and make sure everything was still in one piece.”
Akira’s eyes briefly flicked toward Rion, who had settled into a chair by the window, her face distant despite the occasional smile she offered customers as they passed. Akira noticed it immediately—something was off about her aunt’s usual warmth. Her smile didn’t reach her eyes, and her posture was slouched, like she was carrying something heavy. But Akira didn’t want to push her too soon.
⸻
A Few Moments Later
The salon was in full swing. Stylists buzzed around, and the sound of blow-dryers and scissors filled the air. Kumanomi had offered some assistance a bit, and Akira couldn’t help but glance over at her aunt now and then, concern simmering under her surface.
Rion, who had been observing the bustle of the salon with a quiet air, stood up and made her way to the back to join Akira.
“Mind if I help with anything?” Rion asked, a small smile tugging at the corner of her lips.
Akira hesitated for a moment, still feeling the weight of Rion’s earlier mood. But she gave in, knowing her aunt wouldn’t ask if she didn’t want to help.
“Actually, yes. I could use a hand with the new inventory coming in,” Akira said, motioning toward the back storage room. “It’s a bit of a mess back there, but I’ve been organizing it slowly. If you want to help, that would be great.”
As they worked side by side, Akira couldn’t shake the feeling that something was still wrong. Her aunt had been quieter than usual lately. And this wasn’t just about the salon or work—it was something deeper, something Akira couldn’t quite figure out. She wanted to ask, to get it out of Rion, but she didn’t want to force her.
As they sorted through boxes, Akira decided to take a chance.
“Aunt Rion…” Akira began, her voice low. “You’ve been acting a little different lately. Is everything okay?”
Rion paused for a moment, the weight of the question sinking in. She closed her eyes briefly before turning toward Akira, her expression guarded but soft.
“I’m fine, Akira. Really.” She gave her a reassuring smile, though it didn’t quite reach her eyes. “It’s just… sometimes, things get a little overwhelming. That’s all.”
Akira didn’t push further. She could tell Rion was deflecting, trying to avoid the deeper conversation. But Akira wasn’t one to give up easily.
“You don’t have to tell me everything right now,” Akira said gently, sorting through a stack of brochures. “But I just want you to know that you don’t have to go through this alone. You’ve always been there for me, and I want to do the same for you.”
Rion’s expression softened, and for the briefest of moments, Akira thought she saw a flicker of vulnerability in her aunt’s eyes.
“I know,” Rion whispered, almost as if to herself. “I’m just… trying to figure things out. I don’t want to burden you with it.”
Before Akira could press further, the bell over the door jingled again, signaling more visitors.
⸻
Much to Akira’s expectation when then door opened, it was Tenkyu. Tenkyu walked in, his usual oblivious but cheerful demeanor filling the room. He spotted Akira and Rion immediately and waved with enthusiasm. Tenkyu, being the happy-go-lucky guy he was, always had a way of lightening the mood.
“Hey, Akira! Rion!” Tenkyu greeted loudly, stepping toward the reception area. “Everything’s going well, I hope?”
Rion chuckled softly, her mood lightening a little with his entrance. “It’s going great, Tenkyu. What brings you by today?”
“Just thought I’d drop by and see how things were going,” Tenkyu said, shrugging. “It’s been a while, right? Gotta keep in touch with the family!”
Akira laughed and waved him over. “Well, you’re in luck. We were just about to take a break. Come join us for tea?”
As Tenkyu joined them, the light-hearted chatter continued. Akira was relieved to see Rion beginning to relax, though the deeper conversation still hung in the air, unspoken.
⸻
A Little Later
As the afternoon wound down, Uda, who had just gotten off work, popped into the salon. His work was demanding, but he often stopped by to kill time when he had a free moment. He was the type to blend in quietly and observe more than talk, though when he did speak, it was always thoughtful.
“Hey, Akira,” Uda greeted casually. “Just passing through. How’s everything going here?”
Akira waved him in with a smile. “We’re doing pretty well! We were just about to head out since the store is closing soon. Would you like to join us?”
After a quick discussion, the group decided to head over to Haruma’s apartment, where Gozu was hanging out. Haruma had been busy with his coaching duties and was rarely home, but Gozu had an interest in electronics—specifically physics related, though he hadn’t formally studied it yet.
Rion, Akira, Kumanomi, and Tenkyu piled into Uda’s car, all excited to unwind at Haruma’s place. It wasn’t just about the electronics or physics talk; it was about getting together, supporting each other, and creating the kind of community they’d always wanted. It was clear to Akira that despite her aunt’s secrets, the people around her cared deeply. They were here for each other, always.
Chapter 3: The Secret Revealed
Summary:
Akira, Rion, and their friends visit Haruma’s apartment to relax after a long day. While everyone enjoys chatting and laughing, Akira still notices her Aunt Rion seems quiet and troubled. Concerned, she asks what’s wrong.
Rion hesitates at first but finally reveals her secret—she’s four months pregnant with Kei’s baby and doesn’t know how to tell him. The news shocks everyone, but Akira quickly comforts her and promises to help.
Together with their friends, they come up with a plan to surprise Kei during a joint birthday and baby reveal celebration. With their support, Rion starts to feel relieved and happy, realizing she doesn’t have to face things alone anymore.
Notes:
Chapter 3 is out!! 💜
Normally, a baby’s gender can be revealed around 18 to 20 weeks — roughly 4 to 5 months into pregnancy — through an anatomy ultrasound (often called the mid-pregnancy scan). I actually experienced this myself when I was pregnant with my baby boy 12 years ago, hehe! I had my ultrasound during my fourth month.
There’s also an old myth that says the shape of a baby bump can hint at the gender — a high bump for a girl, and a low bump for a boy. So in Rion’s case, the bump being high on her stomach when Akira touched it might suggest she’s having a girl.
I didn’t include the part about Rion showing early pregnancy signs, taking a pregnancy test that showed two lines, or going for regular OB-GYN check-ups before her ultrasound — sorry!! 😅 I think I’ll save those details for a sequel I’m planning to make in the future after this story.
Also, in real life, women who are naturally slim or have a lean build like Rion often don’t show much during the early months of pregnancy, especially if they have:
1. A longer torso, which gives more room for the uterus to grow upward before it pushes outward.
2. Stronger or tighter abdominal muscles, which hold the bump in a bit longer.
3. A faster metabolism or slower weight gain, meaning their bodies don’t store fat as easily.
So even around four months, it’s totally possible for someone like Rion — tall, slender, and someone who usually wears loose clothing as she usually does — to still look almost the same as before. People might not even notice unless they’re really observant or close to her.
And yes, mood swings are completely normal during pregnancy, especially when combined with stress, so that part fits perfectly!
Anyway, enjoy reading Chapter 3!! 💜✨
Chapter Text
The night had settled in, and a sense of calm filled the air as Akira, Rion, Kumanomi, Tenkyu, and Uda made their way to Haruma’s apartment. The apartment was cozy, with mismatched furniture that told the story of years spent in a space that had gradually come together. Haruma was still out coaching a sports team, leaving the place mostly to Gozu, who, despite his usual fondness for lounging, had been fascinated by electronics lately.
“Feels like ages since I’ve just kicked back like this,” Akira said as she entered the apartment, the warmth of the place instantly soothing her. It was a stark contrast to the busyness of the salon. The familiar faces of the group were a welcome sight.
Rion, who had been quieter than usual, glanced around at the apartment. It wasn’t much, but there was something calming about the clutter of books, scattered pillows, and the warm lighting that seemed to soften the edges of everything. She offered a small, tired smile.
“Yeah, it’s nice,” Rion agreed, though there was a distant note to her voice. She moved to a couch near the window, sinking into the cushions with a sigh. Akira could see how much she needed this—this break, this change of scenery. Rion had been carrying the weight of something she wasn’t ready to share, and Akira was determined to gently help her open up.
⸻
A Relaxed Evening Turns into a Deep Conversation
Everyone settled in, some grabbing snacks while others flopped onto the floor, catching up and laughing. Gozu sat by the window, half-focused on a gadget he was tinkering with. Tenkyu was already enthusiastically recounting a funny incident from the salon, gesturing wildly as everyone laughed along.
But Akira’s mind was still on Rion. The way her aunt sat there, almost lost in her thoughts, was hard to ignore. Rion, who had always been strong and in control, had been so different lately—so distant.
After a few moments of light conversation, Akira took a deep breath and made her way toward Rion. She sat down beside her aunt on the couch, reaching out to place a hand gently on her aunt’s arm.
“Aunt Rion,” Akira began softly, her voice steady but filled with concern. “I’ve noticed you’ve been a little off lately. You don’t have to tell me everything, but… is there something you’re not saying? You know you can talk to me, right?”
The room suddenly quieted, the noise of everyone else’s conversation fading into the background as Akira’s words hung in the air. Rion shifted uncomfortably, avoiding her niece’s eyes. For a moment, it seemed like she might try to brush it off again, but Akira’s touch, her quiet care, made it harder to hide.
Rion hesitated, her fingers nervously tracing the edges of her tea cup. Finally, she spoke, her voice barely above a whisper. “I didn’t want to burden you… I just don’t know how to say it.”
Akira, sensing that this was her moment to get her aunt to open up, leaned a little closer. “Aunt Rion, it’s okay. Whatever it is, we’re family. You don’t have to carry it alone.”
For a long moment, Rion was silent. Then, with a deep breath, she placed her hand over her stomach. Akira followed the movement with her eyes, and for the first time, she noticed the slight change in her aunt’s figure. It wasn’t obvious at first—Rion had always been tall and slender—but now there was a faint curve to her abdomen that hadn’t been there before.
⸻
The Moment of Revelation
Akira’s hand instinctively reached for Rion’s, gently resting over her aunt’s belly. She immediately sensed that it wasn’t just a casual shift in her body. There was something more, something Rion had been trying to keep hidden. Akira’s voice trembled with disbelief as she asked, “Aunt Rion… are you…?”
Rion was four months along, but her growing belly remained hidden beneath the loose fabric of her clothes, a testament to her slim figure. It wasn’t until someone touched her stomach that the secret would be revealed. Her face flushed with a mix of surprise and vulnerability as she processed the weight of the moment. She bit her lip, the gesture betraying her nervousness, then nodded slowly. Finally, her eyes met Akira’s for the first time that evening, the unspoken tension between them lingering in the air.
“Yes, Akira,” Rion said softly, her voice thick with emotion. “I’m pregnant with Kei. This is our first baby together but I don’t know how to tell him.”
Akira sat frozen for a moment, the weight of her aunt’s words sinking in. She’d suspected something was going on, but hearing it out loud, seeing the vulnerability in Rion’s eyes, hit her harder than she expected.
“You’re pregnant?” Akira repeated, her voice barely above a whisper.
Rion nodded, a sad smile curling at the corner of her lips. “Yes. It’s my first time carrying our child, and… it feels different. There’s something overwhelming about it, Akira. It’s like I’ve been trying to hold onto this strength, this exterior, but underneath all of it… I’m still a woman. I’m still scared. And I don’t know how to tell Kei.”
The room was silent as everyone else stopped their conversations, sensing the weight of the moment. Akira could see how much Rion was struggling with this secret. Despite her usual strong and independent demeanor, this moment of vulnerability made Akira realize just how much Rion needed support. It wasn’t just about the pregnancy—it was about the emotional toll that being a mother for the first time was taking on her.
⸻
The Plan Forms
The conversation turned quieter, with the group sensing that they needed to give Rion space, but Akira, ever the caring niece, didn’t let the moment slide by. She gently cupped Rion’s hand in both of hers, her eyes filled with empathy.
“Aunt Rion,” Akira said softly, “you don’t have to do this alone. You’ve always been there for me—helping me, guiding me through so much. I’m going to help you with this. We’ll do it together.”
Rion looked at Akira, her eyes softening, though there was still a hint of doubt in them. “But how? How do I even begin to tell him?”
Akira’s mind raced as she thought about how to make Rion’s surprise reveal something unforgettable. She already had an idea, but she needed the group’s help.
The others, sensing the conversation taking a serious turn, gathered around. Kumanomi, who had been quietly watching the whole exchange, stood up and joined Akira and Rion by the couch.
“We’ll figure it out,” Kumanomi said with a grin, her usual energy now focused on the task at hand. “How about we make both of your birthdays extra special this year? While yours is on October 21st, Kei’s birthday is just around the corner, right? October 14th? Why not combine your birthdays into one big month celebration? A baby shower for you as a birthday gift and a birthday party for Kei—it’ll be perfect!”
Everyone’s eyes lit up with the excitement of the plan, and Haruma, even though he wasn’t physically present, was mentioned as the next step.
“We’ll have to get Gozu and Haruma on board,” Uda added, already thinking ahead. “Gozu’s good at being sneaky with plans, and Haruma—well, Haruma’s good at making everything happen. He can handle logistics and make sure it’s all under wraps.”
The group quickly rallied together. Ideas bounced around—decorations, a custom cake, games, and of course, the pink reveal that would give Kei the shock of his life. Gaku, who had just arrived from the bookstore, slid into the conversation, offering his assistance without hesitation.
“I’ll make sure Kei doesn’t get too suspicious. I’ve got some experience with keeping surprises,” Gaku added, flashing a mischievous grin. “Leave the distractions to me.”
⸻
Moving Forward Together
As the plans started to take shape, the tension in Rion’s shoulders seemed to ease a little. She smiled at Akira, her gratitude evident, though she still carried a hint of worry.
“Thank you, Akira,” Rion said softly. “I never realized how much I needed to hear that. I’ve been so focused on keeping everything together, but maybe it’s okay to lean on others for once.”
Akira smiled, squeezing her aunt’s hand. “That’s what family’s for, right? To help each other out. We’ve got your back.”
The group spent the rest of the time brainstorming, sharing laughs, and finding ways to ensure Kei would never suspect a thing until the big reveal. The weight of Rion’s secret no longer felt like a burden she had to carry alone. Surrounded by family and friends who supported her, she began to feel a flicker of excitement about the future.
The surprise wasn’t just about a baby—it was about celebrating their growing family and the unexpected joy that awaited them.
Chapter 4: The Plan Takes Shape
Summary:
The group gathers at Haruma’s apartment to plan a surprise for Rion’s pregnancy reveal and Kei’s birthday. Rion wants something simple and meaningful, not flashy. Everyone shares ideas—decorations, games, and a small gender reveal setup—to make it special but intimate.
With everyone’s help, Akira organizes the plan, promising to make Rion feel beautiful and at ease. Surrounded by their friends’ support, Rion feels grateful and ready to face the moment with warmth and hope.

Chapter Text
As the evening unfolded in Haruma’s apartment, the group gathered around the small coffee table, papers, pens, and phones scattered everywhere. Akira had a notepad in hand, jotting down ideas as everyone tossed in their thoughts. Rion, sitting in the background, listened quietly, still processing the overwhelming amount of ideas being thrown her way. She appreciated the help, but the thought of making her pregnancy a public surprise felt like too much.
“I don’t want anything too flashy,” Rion interjected softly, her voice hesitant. “I just want it to be special, something meaningful… but not over the top.”
Akira looked over her shoulder, her gaze soft. “I understand, Aunt Rion. We’ll make sure it’s perfect. You don’t have to worry about anything.”
Rion nodded, her eyes grateful but still uncertain. She had always been the one taking care of others, the one in control, and now, having to step into a more vulnerable place, even in front of the people, was a big step for her. But as she looked at her niece, and the group of friends who had become like family, she felt a small warmth bloom in her chest. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad, after all.
⸻
The AL Kamar friends: Sharing Ideas
The room buzzed with excitement as each person eagerly contributed to the plan, eager to make this celebration as memorable as possible. Kumanomi was the first to speak up, her usual energy infectious as she clapped her hands together, drawing everyone’s attention.
Kumanomi: eyes bright with excitement
“Okay, okay! Let’s get this thing rolling! We’ll start with the most important part: the theme. I’m thinking pastel pink and blue—those are neutral enough to represent both the baby and the celebration. But we need something that screams ‘memorable.’ Maybe we can decorate with paper lanterns or hanging baby clothes? We’ll make it cozy and cute, but not too much. We don’t want Rion to run off, right?”
Rion let out a soft chuckle at Kumanomi’s enthusiasm, but she still couldn’t shake the sense of overwhelm. The idea of a grand baby shower felt like it was spiraling out of her control.
Rion: shaking her head with a gentle smile
“I don’t know if I can handle something that big. I’m not good with all the attention, you know?”
Akira: turning to her aunt with a reassuring smile
“Don’t worry, Aunt Rion. We’ll keep it low-key, just the way you like it. But we’re all in this together, so we’ll make sure it’s something beautiful and personal.”
⸻
Gozu’s Contribution
Gozu, who had been quietly fiddling with a piece of electric equipment in the corner, perked up when he heard the words “memorable” and “personal.” He had been strangely interested in physics stuffs and electronics lately, spending his free time researching ideas that could bring a unique twist to the baby shower.
Gozu: clearly excited
“I was thinking… what if we set up a little surprise with lights and a small science-based reveal? Like, we could use a simple physics trick—something like a balloon popping with colored powder to reveal the baby’s gender after Kei walks in! We could even rig the lights to flash in sync with the reveal to make it feel more dramatic without being too loud.”
Akira, who had been jotting down notes on the idea, nodded thoughtfully. “That’s a great idea, Gozu. We could have the lights dimmed, and when Kei cuts the cake or pops the balloon, everything will light up. It’ll make the moment extra special without being too flashy. The surprise will feel personal and intimate.”
Rion, still sitting at the background with a soft smile, nodded slowly, feeling slightly more at ease with Gozu’s quieter but effective approach. “That’s a nice touch. It’s not too much, but it’ll be meaningful. Thank you, Gozu.”
⸻
Haruma’s Input
Haruma, who had just arrived from his coaching duties, walked into the room, his face slightly flushed from the workout but his energy still high. He immediately picked up on the group’s enthusiastic mood and leaned in, ready to contribute to the plan.
Haruma: grinning, wiping his face with a towel
“Alright, alright. I can see I’m missing out. What’s the plan? Tell me we’re doing something big for Kei’s birthday, too! I’ll handle all the logistics—get the food, organize the seating, and make sure everyone knows when to show up. You know I’m great with details!”
Everyone nodded in agreement. Haruma had a way of making things happen, and his organizational skills were impeccable.
Tenkyu: casually sipping his drink
“I think the setup should be simple but warm. Maybe we could do a small, intimate gathering at Kei and Rion’s house—something cozy. We don’t want it to feel like a public spectacle. Just close friends and family. That way, we can make sure Rion feels comfortable.”
Haruma’s eyes lit up with approval as he quickly scribbled down notes on the seating arrangement. “Got it. I’ll make sure only the essential people are there. We’ll keep it private, just how Rion wants it.”
⸻
Uda’s Contribution
Uda, who had been quietly observing the discussion, cleared his throat and raised his hand, breaking the flow of conversation. Despite his corporate job, Uda had a knack for spotting gaps in plans and offering his steady, practical advice.
Uda: thoughtfully tapping his chin
“Why don’t we also make it a bit interactive? We could have some games that aren’t too over-the-top—something simple like a guessing game about baby names or a fun trivia quiz about Rion and Kei’s relationship. It’ll get people talking and laughing without feeling forced.”
Akira nodded enthusiastically. “I love that idea, Uda. We could have a small section for trivia games, where people answer questions about the couple. It’ll keep things light-hearted.”
⸻
Gaku’s Contribution
Gaku: playfully raising an eyebrow, leaned against the wall with a grin.
I’ll help keep the surprise under wraps. Kei’s been asking me about what’s going on, and it’s getting a little suspicious, but I’ve got it covered. I’ll keep him busy so he doesn’t figure out what we’re planning.”
Everyone turned to Gaku, who had a knack for distracting Kei whenever needed. His casual confidence made him the perfect ally in keeping the secret.
Akira: laughing
“Thanks, Gaku. We need someone to keep him from overthinking everything. You’re good at keeping things casual, so just keep him occupied until the big reveal.”
Rion, who had been quietly listening to the group’s ideas, felt a wave of gratitude wash over her. She hadn’t realized how much support she had until now. Despite her initial reservations, seeing the group work together to make this surprise happen made her feel hopeful about the future.
Rion: softly, her voice filled with appreciation
“Thank you, all of you. I didn’t think I needed this kind of help, but now that I hear all your ideas, I can see how much you care. It’s… overwhelming, but in a good way. I’m lucky to have you all in my life.”
⸻
Akira’s Final Touch
As the discussion began to wind down, Akira took a moment to look around at everyone. She had to make sure everything went smoothly. After all, this was Rion’s moment—a moment she’d never forget, and Akira was determined to make sure Rion felt beautiful and cherished, especially as she prepared to share her pregnancy news with Kei.
“Okay,” Akira said, taking a deep breath. “Here’s what we’ll do. We’ll keep it simple but meaningful, just like Rion wants. We’ll have the baby gender reveal with Gozu’s lighting idea, a small guessing game for fun, and a cozy atmosphere for everyone to enjoy. But, Aunt Rion,” Akira added with a smile, “you’ll need to be the star of the show. I’ll make sure you’re looking your absolute best on Kei’s birthday. You deserve to feel radiant, and I’ll help you with that.”
Rion looked at Akira, her expression softening. “Thank you, Akira. I know I’ve been hard on you and everyone, but… this means more to me than you know.”
With everyone’s input coming together, the plan was finally taking shape. Everyone had their part to play, and Rion’s heart began to swell with gratitude. She may not have been ready for this huge change, but with the support of her family and friends, she knew she could face it—one step at a time.
Chapter 5: Rion’s Return
Summary:
Rion's return to her home after brain storming ideas to celebrate the two events together.
Notes:
Chapter 5 is out! Since Kei and Rion began living together, I created that the AL Kamar friends are residing in separate homes nearby — close enough to visit each other easily.
I. Kei and Rion - living together as a married couple but working on their businesses
Kei works as a bookstore manager and, possibly, the CEO of the shop, given his natural leadership and sense of order, as well as his intellect. Rion, on the other hand, is the owner and founder of a salon. Their home is quiet but warm, often serving as a meeting place, especially when friends drop by.II. Tenkyu, Uda, Kumanomi, Gaku, and Akira - This group shares a house not far from Kei and Rion’s place.
Uda works in a corporate office job and primarily handles most of the household bills and expenses as he temporarily resides with them, but enjoys it. He's the only one in the group who has a six-seater car for work and travel reasons. Most times, he's busy due to work demands.
Tenkyu often visits Kei’s bookstore to help out when he has free time, enjoying the quiet atmosphere there.
Gaku is part-time employed at the bookstore. He sometimes stays in the shared house but often spends the night with his older brothers, Gozu, and Haruma, especially when he wants company. He’s currently saving up to buy a new gaming console.
Kumanomi acts as the older sister and parental figure of the house, maintaining order and making sure everyone’s well-fed and taken care of.
Akira also lives with them. She helps Kumanomi with the household chores and treats her like an older sister. She contributes to the bills as well. She was promoted as the new salon manager and oversees daily operations and customer relations. However, the salon’s finances and business progress are still reviewed by her Aunt Rion, who personally monitors every incoming and outgoing transaction, ensuring that everything stays on track and continues to grow.
III. Haruma and Gozu - The older brothers of the group.
Haruma works as a coach at a local school, focusing on sports and mentoring kids. Gozu usually stays at home, fascinated by electronics and experiments, despite not having formal studies in the field.
They often welcome Gaku to stay over, and during off-days or breaks, the trio — Haruma, Gozu, and Gaku — usually spend time together, whether it’s gaming, chatting, or just relaxing.
Chapter Text
The streets outside were bathed in the soft glow of streetlights as Uda drove Akira, Rion, and the others home after the evening’s brainstorming session. The lively chatter of the group still lingered in the air as Akira, Kumanomi, and Tenkyu were dropped off first, heading to their shared house. Gaku had decided to stay at Haruma’s place for the night, likely to give Kei some space to wonder what was going on.
Now, it was just Rion, the last one in the car, feeling the familiar weight of silence as he pulled up to her home. The drive had been pleasant enough—Akira had been talking about the small details of the party, Kumanomi had been cracking jokes as usual, and Tenkyu had been chiming in with his random observations. But now, Rion felt that same sense of anticipation she’d been carrying since the start of the day. Soon, she’d be alone with Kei again.
Uda parked the car, and Rion stepped out, thanking him with a soft smile. She waved as he drove off into the night, back to the shared home with Kumanomi, Akira, and Tenkyu where he temporarily resides. Then stood for a moment, gathering her thoughts. Her heart was still heavy with the secret she carried. She didn’t know how to tell Kei yet. How to explain everything that was going to change.
⸻
At Home
Kei was waiting for her when she entered the house, just like he always did. The warm, comforting smell of food wafted from the kitchen, and Rion felt a flutter of relief—Kei had cooked, as he always did when he was trying to show his love in his quiet way.
Kei turned as she stepped inside, his face breaking into a soft, welcoming smile. He looked slightly tired, but that didn’t stop his eyes from lighting up when he saw her.
“Welcome home Rion,” Kei greeted, his voice low but filled with warmth. “How was your evening?”
Rion stepped into his embrace, leaning into his chest for a moment, savoring the calm and the familiarity of him. “It was good. I went to the salon with Akira to unwind… and I met up with Kumanomi and the others,” she explained casually, taking a step back as she looked at him. “We had a great discussion. Just… spent some time together.”
Kei nodded, his gaze softening. “Glad to hear you had a good time.” He paused, looking down at the meal he had been preparing. “I made us dinner. Thought it’d be nice for us to have a quiet meal together after everything.”
Rion could see the care he had put into it. The vegetables were chopped just right, and the seasoning on the meat looked perfect. She smiled softly, a little guilty for not being entirely present earlier.
“You’re too good to me, Kei,” Rion said, her voice quieter than usual, but with affection.
Kei shrugged, his grin soft. “You deserve it. I was just following Gaku’s advice to make sure you were okay.”
Rion raised an eyebrow. “Gaku?”
“Yeah,” Kei replied, glancing at his phone, “he messaged me earlier to let me know you were hanging out with Akira and the others. He said you were spending time together, and he thought I should get dinner started. So… I figured I’d cook.”
Gaku, always looking out for them like a family, had a way of showing care in the simplest ways. She hadn’t noticed that he’d been keeping track of where she was. With all his distractions and quirks, it was clear that Gaku saw her as his big sister.
⸻
Dinner and Apologies
As they sat down to eat, the conversation flowed naturally, with Kei sharing stories from his day at the bookstore, while Rion listened intently. But there was an underlying sense of quiet between them. Rion had been emotionally distant lately, and she felt guilty about it. It wasn’t that she didn’t love Kei—she did, more than anything. But she had been so wrapped up in the secret she was carrying, so consumed by the overwhelming feelings of pregnancy and uncertainty, that it had created a distance between them.
After a few bites of her meal, Rion placed her fork down and looked up at Kei, her eyes soft but apologetic.
“I’m sorry if I’ve been distant, Kei,” she began, her voice steady but with a touch of vulnerability. “I didn’t mean to shut you out. It’s just… everything’s been a lot lately, and I wasn’t sure how to handle it.”
Kei’s gaze softened, and he reached across the table, taking her hand in his. “Rion,” he said gently, “you don’t have to apologize. I know you’ve been dealing with a lot, and I’ve been a little wrapped up in my own world too. If there’s something you need to talk about, I’m here. You’re never alone in this.”
Rion’s heart ached at his words. She didn’t want him to worry, didn’t want to burden him with the secret she hadn’t been ready to share. But as she looked at him now, the warmth and sincerity in his blue eyes, she felt an overwhelming wave of love for him.
“I just… I don’t know how to explain it,” she whispered, her voice thick. “I don’t want to put too much on you. But I’m scared, Kei. I’m scared of what’s coming. I don’t know how to tell you, but I want to. I need to tell you…”
Kei squeezed her hand, his thumb brushing over her knuckles. “You don’t have to explain it all at once,” he said softly, his voice full of understanding. “I’m here. Whatever it is, we’ll face it together.”
Rion smiled, feeling a weight lift off her chest for just a moment. She didn’t have to say the answers at once, but she knew Kei would be there for her, just as he always had.
⸻
Later, in the Bedroom
After dinner, the two of them headed to the bathroom to freshen up. Rion stood in front of the mirror, washing her hands, her thoughts racing. She gently touched her belly, where the bump was still barely noticeable, yet she could feel the baby growing inside her—a life she and Kei had created together. It was real, and soon, she would have to tell him. But for now, she just wanted to savor these quiet moments with him.
Kei walked out of the bathroom first, followed by Rion. He slipped into his simple white pajamas and settled under the covers, waiting for her to join him. After finishing her evening routine and changing into her blue nightgown, Rion climbed into bed. Kei opened his arms, and she slid in beside him, resting her head on his chest.
Rion closed her eyes, breathing in the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. For a moment, she allowed herself to just be with him, to lose herself in the comfort of his presence.
“I’ve been thinking,” Rion murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. “This is the best thing that’s ever happened to me… I know things will change, and I’m scared… but I want you to know that you’re everything to me.”
Kei smiled softly, his fingers lightly running through her blue hair. “Rion, whatever happens, I’ll be right here with you. We’re in this together, and I love you. So much.”
The words hung in the air between them, filled with unspoken promises and unvoiced fears. Rion chuckled softly, her fingers tracing patterns on his chest.
“You know,” Rion said, her lips curling into a playful smile, “you’re so clueless sometimes, Kei.”
Kei laughed, pulling her closer. “What do you mean?”
Rion leaned up to kiss him, her lips soft against his. As she pulled back, her smile was tender. “You’ll find out soon enough.”
Kei’s brow furrowed in confusion, but Rion just chuckled, her fingers brushing over his lips before she rested her head on his chest again. “Just know that no matter what, this is the best thing that’s ever happened to both of us.”
Kei smiled, his arms tightening around her as they drifted off to sleep. His heart full of love for her, without a clue of the secret she was keeping from him.
Chapter 6: Kei’s Birthday Surprise
Chapter Text
The morning light filtered through the windows as Rion stretched in bed, blinking against the soft rays of sunshine. Today wasn’t just any day—it was Kei’s birthday, and she had a surprise planned for him that she knew would make it unforgettable. Her heart fluttered with anticipation as she turned to face him, still sound asleep beside her.
Rion gently leaned over and pressed a soft kiss to Kei’s lips, her fingers lingering on his cheek for a moment. The kiss was tender, quiet, just the way they usually started their mornings together.
“Happy Birthday, Kei,” she whispered against his lips, her voice full of warmth and affection.
Kei stirred, his eyes slowly opening to meet hers. A slow smile spread across his face, and he pulled her into a deep hug, his arms wrapping around her tightly as he murmured, “Thank you, Rion. I love you.”
“I love you too,” Rion replied softly, her fingers tracing the outline of his jaw. She could feel his heartbeat against her chest, steady and strong. She knew he had no idea what was waiting for him today, but she couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement. Everything was about to change, and it was going to be perfect.
⸻
Breakfast and Simple Beginnings
The two of them had a quiet breakfast together, as they usually did, savoring the simplicity of their routine. Kei talked about the bookstore and his plans for the day, and Rion listened attentively, all the while hiding the nervous excitement bubbling inside her. She had spent half of the night working with Akira, Kumanomi, Gozu, and the others to plan the perfect surprise, and now it was time to put everything into motion.
“Are you sure you don’t want to do something more for your birthday?” Rion asked casually, stirring her coffee.
Kei smiled, shaking his head. “A simple dinner at home sounds great, honestly. I don’t need anything fancy. Just you and me, that’s all I want.”
Rion’s heart swelled at his words. He had no idea just how special today was going to be, and that made it all the more exciting for her. She had everything arranged down to the smallest detail. Today wasn’t just about celebrating Kei’s birthday—it was about celebrating their life together and the new chapter they were about to embark on.
⸻
Kei’s Day at the Bookstore
Kei arrived at the bookstore a little later than usual, as he had spent some extra time enjoying breakfast with Rion. The bookstore was already busy with customers browsing through the aisles, and Kei couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride as he walked through the familiar shelves. The shop had come a long way since he first took over, and it had become his second home. It wasn’t just about selling books—it was about creating a space where people could escape and immerse themselves in stories.
“Hey, Gaku!” Kei called out as he walked behind the counter. “You’re already here?”
Gaku, who had been fiddling with the cash register, looked up and grinned. “Of course I am. Wouldn’t miss your birthday for anything, right? Besides, I figured you might need a hand today. Looks like it’s going to be a busy one.”
Kei chuckled, grateful for Gaku’s assistance. “Thanks, man. It’s a bit hectic, but it’s good business.”
As the day wore on, the bookstore grew even busier. A popular new book had just been restocked, and people were flocking to the store to buy it. The sales were coming in fast, and Kei felt a surge of pride at how well the day was going. Gaku was behind the counter, assisting customers, while Kei ran around organizing and restocking the shelves.
“Don’t work yourself too hard, man,” Gaku teased as he handed a customer their receipt. “It’s your birthday! You should be relaxing, not running around like a madman.”
Kei waved him off with a smile. “I know, but it’s a special day. Besides, it’s the best birthday present I could ask for—the store doing well.” He paused, glancing over at Gaku. “It’s been a great day. I can’t wait to tell Rion about it tonight.”
Gaku gave him a knowing look. “Speaking of Rion… she’s got something big planned for you tonight, doesn’t she?”
Kei raised an eyebrow, puzzled. “What do you mean? We’re just having a simple dinner. That’s all she said.”
“Yeah, well, I wouldn’t be so sure about that,” Gaku replied cryptically with a wink. “But don’t worry. I’ll make sure you’re good to go, man.”
Just then, Tenkyu entered the bookstore, a grin on his face. “Yo, Kei! How’s it going? Need help?”
Kei smiled, relieved to see Tenkyu. “You’re a lifesaver. There’s a lot of foot traffic today. Thanks for dropping by.”
“Anything for you, man,” Tenkyu said with a grin as he began helping Gaku organize some of the books. “Looks like the store’s doing great today. The sales are flying off the shelves.”
Kei couldn’t contain his excitement as he watched the store bustling with activity. It had been such a good day. The sales were higher than they had been in the past few days, and he couldn’t wait to share the news with Rion.
⸻
The Salon and Rion’s Transformation
Meanwhile, Rion had made her way to the salon, eager to unwind and prepare for the evening. She had decided to get her blue wavy hair fixed—something she had always loved about herself. The cool, calming shade was a reminder of her strength and individuality. Akira, who was already there, greeted her with a bright smile.
“Ready to get pampered?” Akira asked, leading Rion to one of the chairs. “We’ve got a full makeover planned for you today.”
Rion smiled, feeling a little nervous but also excited. She had been looking forward to this moment. As Akira worked on fixing her hair, Kumanomi entered, holding a beautiful blue dress and white doll shoes in her hands.
“This is for you, Rion,” Kumanomi said, handing the dress and shoes to Rion with a wink. “It’s to make you feel extra special tonight. You’re going to look amazing!”
Rion was taken aback by the gesture, her eyes filling with warmth. “Kumanomi, it’s beautiful. Thank you.” She held the dress against herself, admiring the way it shimmered in the light. “I can’t believe you all are doing this for me. It’s overwhelming, but… I’m so grateful.”
Akira smiled as she continued working on Rion’s hair. “We want tonight to be perfect for you. It’s not just Kei’s birthday, it’s about celebrating you too.”
The girls worked together, fixing Rion’s hair, applying makeup, and adding accessories that made her feel both beautiful and strong. The excitement in the salon was palpable as they made sure every detail was in place. Akira couldn’t help but feel proud of the plan they had worked so hard on.
⸻
The Final Touches
Back at the garden, Haruma and Gozu were busy with the lighting and decorations. Haruma, who had already set up a small stage area, was coordinating with Gozu to make sure everything was perfect. The soft glow of string lights twinkled against the darkening sky, creating a romantic atmosphere that would be perfect for the evening’s surprise.
Gozu, ever the perfectionist, adjusted the lights carefully. “We need to make sure the lighting transitions perfectly when the balloon pops. That’s going to be the moment, you know?”
Haruma, checking the seating arrangement, nodded. “Yeah, it’ll be amazing. Uda had a great idea with the timing of the lights. We’ll have the perfect reveal.”
⸻
Kei’s Suspicion
As the day came to a close, Kei couldn’t help but feel a growing sense of curiosity. The bookstore had done exceptionally well, and he was eager to share the news with Rion. As he locked up the store, Uda pulled up in his car, waving at Kei.
“Hey, ready to go home?” Uda asked with a smile.
Kei gave him a puzzled look. “Yeah, but I’m not sure what’s going on. Everyone’s acting kind of strange today.”
Uda chuckled and leaned back in the driver’s seat. “Well, let’s just say there’s a lot more going on than you know. You’ll find out soon enough.”
Kei raised an eyebrow but decided to go along with it. Tenkyu, Gaku, and Kei all piled into Uda’s six-seater car. As they drove through the quiet streets, the anticipation in the air grew. There was something about tonight that felt different, and Kei couldn’t quite figure out why.
Meanwhile, in the garden, everything was coming together. The final touches were being made, and the stage was set for the big reveal.
Chapter 7: The Big Reveal
Notes:
I planned to combine two chapters (6 and 7) and release them on October 21, which is Rion’s birthday. I also realized I forgot to include a small but meaningful detail in the story, during their intimate moment together, Kei wished his wife, Rion, a happy birthday. He told her that he could never find anyone as amazing as she is, and that he’s beyond grateful so much so that words could never fully express it. 🩵🤍
Chapter Text
As the final minutes of the day ticked by, excitement buzzed in the air. Rion stood in front of the mirror at the salon, her heart pounding with a mixture of emotions. She had just finished her hair and makeup, and the blue dress and white doll shoes Kumanomi had gifted her fit perfectly, accentuating her natural elegance and strength. It was hard to believe how much had changed in the past few days, and tonight, her life was about to change even more.
She was nervous—more nervous than she had ever been in her life. Not because she wasn’t sure about what was happening, but because it was all so overwhelming. It was a beautiful, life-changing moment. She had always been strong, always confident in her own skin, but now, as she stared at her reflection, she felt more vulnerable than ever. Beneath her usual strong exterior, she still felt like the woman Kei had fallen in love with, a woman who carried not just strength but love, hope, and a deep connection to her husband.
“Are you ready, Aunt Rion?” Akira asked, standing behind her, her hands on her hips as she admired her aunt’s transformation.
Rion met Akira’s gaze in the mirror and smiled softly. “I think so. I’ve never done anything like this before.”
Kumanomi, who had been fussing over accessories nearby, skipped over to them with a wide grin. “You look amazing, Rion! Kei won’t know what hit him. You’re gonna leave him speechless.”
Rion let out a small, nervous laugh. “Let’s hope so.”
⸻
The Drive to Rion and Kei’s Home
After the final touches were added to Rion’s look—her makeup flawless, her hair perfectly styled, and the blue dress a reflection of her newfound confidence—Kumanomi arranged for a car to take them to Rion and Kei’s house. The excitement in the car was palpable. Everyone in the group was eager for the evening to unfold.
“Kei’s going to flip when he sees you,” Kumanomi said, bouncing in the back seat. “It’s going to be the best birthday surprise ever!”
Akira, sitting beside Rion, gave her a warm smile. “You look incredible, Aunt Rion. He won’t know what hit him.”
Rion looked out of the window, her thoughts racing. This was it. The moment she had been preparing for. The surprise wasn’t just about revealing her pregnancy—it was about showing Kei the family they were going to create together. Their journey had always been about love and support despite the odds, and now, it was time to add a new chapter. The weight of that realization made Rion’s heart swell with both joy and fear.
As they pulled up to the house, Rion felt the familiar butterflies in her stomach. She took a deep breath before stepping out of the car. It was time.
⸻
The Garden and the Surprise
By the time they arrived at the house, the decorations were in place, and Haruma and Gozu had almost finished setting up the lights, food, and atmosphere in the garden. The lights twinkled softly in the evening, and everything had been meticulously arranged for the big reveal. Rion, Akira, and Kumanomi, stepped out of the car, their voices hushed in excitement.
As they made their way toward the garden, Rion paused for a moment, taking in the setup. She saw how Gozu adjusted the lights for the final touch, and Haruma completed the food arrangement and balloon decorations. Everything looked flawless.
“It’s all coming together,” Akira whispered to Rion, squeezing her hand.
Rion took a deep breath, the nerves still fluttering in her chest, but there was something else too—something peaceful. She was surrounded by the people who cared about her, and she was about to share the greatest gift she could give to Kei.
As the last of the preparations were made, the group decided to dim the lights in the garden to heighten the suspense. They were waiting for Kei to arrive, and when he did, everything would light up.
⸻
Kei’s Arrival
Kei, unaware of the surprise waiting for him, arrived home with Uda, Gaku, and Tenkyu. The evening was calm, with the moon and stars high in the sky, casting a soft glow over everything. As they approached, the house appeared eerily dark, and Kei couldn’t help but wonder why. He had expected a quiet evening with just him and Rion, but the darkness of the house felt off, as if something was amiss.
“What’s going on here?” Kei asked, squinting into the darkened hallway as he stepped inside.
Gaku, who had been walking beside him, clapped him on the shoulder. “Don’t worry about it, man. It’s just part of the surprise. You’ll see.”
Kei raised an eyebrow, his curiosity piqued. “A surprise? What are you talking about?”
Uda, standing at the front of the group, motioned toward the garden. “Come on, let’s head outside. The night’s just getting started.”
Still puzzled, Kei followed Uda outside, with Tenkyu and Gaku trailing behind. When they arrived, the garden was dark, save for the soft light of the moon and stars casting gentle shadows on the ground. Kei could hear the soft rustling of the group behind him, but his thoughts remained fixed on the strange, quiet atmosphere.
“Rion?” Kei called out, his voice carrying into the night. “Is everything okay?”
Then, as if on cue, the lights in the garden flickered on, bathing the space in a warm, golden glow. The soft glow of the lights revealed the setup — colorful balloon decorations that burst open to release shimmering confetti, glittering as they drifted through the air. A beautifully arranged table stood at the center, adorned with a variety of delicious dishes, liquors, and juices. At its heart rested a blue-and-white cake, perfectly placed to complete the scene.
And then, as if she had appeared out of nowhere, Rion stepped forward from the shadows, glowing in her blue dress. Her hair was styled perfectly, her makeup flawless, and her presence completely captivated Kei. He stood frozen for a moment, taking her in, as his heart skipped a beat.
“Happy birthday, Kei, my love” Rion said, her voice soft but full of love. She walked toward him, her yellow eyes locking with his as she took his hand in hers.
Kei’s heart pounded in his chest. He had never seen her look so radiant. There was a calm in her that made her even more beautiful than usual, and the sight of her walking toward him, confident and graceful, made him fall in love with her all over again.
Rion guided Kei to a chair tucked at the table, where a single blue balloon was attached. “I need you to pop this for me,” she said, her voice carrying a playful hint.
Kei, still bewildered but completely entranced by the moment, nodded and grabbed the small needle Rion handed him. He pricked the balloon, and in an instant, pink party powder exploded into the air, showering down in a soft mist.
Kei stood still for a moment, processing what had just happened. The pink powder lingered in the air, and it was then that he started to piece things together. His eyes widened as he glanced at Rion, who was now smiling softly at him.
“I… I don’t understand…” Kei whispered, his voice tinged with confusion.
Next, Rion handed him the cake knife, and he moved toward the center of the table to cut into the blue and white cake placed there. As he sliced through it, pink cream filling revealed itself in the layers inside. It wasn’t just a birthday cake—it was a baby shower cake.
Kei’s heart raced, and in that moment, everything clicked. He recalled the strange behaviors, the subtle hints, the moments of secrecy. He turned to Rion again, his eyes wide with realization.
“Rion… Are you…?” Kei’s voice trailed off, but Rion’s smile answered his question before she even spoke.
“Yes, Kei,” she said softly. “I’m pregnant. We’re going to have a baby… a baby girl.”
Kei’s face went through a range of emotions—shock, disbelief, and finally, overwhelming joy. His hands shook as he reached out to hold her. “A baby? Our baby? I… I can’t believe it.”
The group, who had been watching from the sidelines, began to cheer, their faces lighting up with joy. Akira, Kumanomi, Tenkyu, Gozu, Haruma, Uda, and Gaku all stepped forward, offering their congratulations and gifts for the baby. It was a moment of pure love, a new chapter beginning for Kei and Rion.
⸻
The Celebration and Intimate Moments
As the evening went on, the group gathered around the table, enjoying a meal beneath the soft glow of the garden lights. Simple games were played in between, adding a touch of fun and entertainment for everyone, including the couple. The stars above twinkled in the clear night sky, enhancing the magic of the moment. Kei sat beside Rion, his hand resting gently on her stomach, gazing at her with awe and gratitude.
“This is the best gift I could ever ask for,” Kei whispered, his voice thick with emotion. “We’re going to be parents, Rion. I can’t believe it.”
Rion smiled, her hand covering his. “I know the road ahead won’t always be easy, Kei, but as long as we’re together, I’m ready for it all. We’re building something beautiful, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us. And I’m so thankful for this moment, for our family.”
Later, as the celebration came to an end and the guests began to leave, Rion and Kei made their way back to their house, eventually reaching their bedroom. The emotions of the evening—the joy of the surprise—left them both feeling overwhelmed with love.
Kei pulled Rion close, kissing her deeply, his hands gently exploring her body beneath her blue dress, with a tenderness that revealed the depth of his feelings. As their clothes slowly slipped away, Kei couldn’t help but marvel at how beautiful Rion was. His blue eyes were filled with admiration and awe, captivated by the way she glowed. Every curve of her body felt like a testament to the love they shared.
Rion, her yellow eyes glowing softly in the dim light, looked up at Kei, her gaze filled with admiration. She saw not just her husband, but the man who had captured her heart completely. His features, his strength, and the way he held her made him more beautiful and handsome in her eyes than anyone else.
She wrapped her arms around Kei’s neck, her fingers threading through his white hair, pulling him even closer as she allowed him to deepen their kiss. His touch became more insistent, guiding her toward him with a sense of urgency. As they kissed, Rion felt the bond between them grow stronger—a promise made in the warmth of their shared love, a silent vow to face whatever the future held together. In that moment, Kei saw her not just as his wife, but as the most beautiful woman in the world, and he was grateful to call her his own.
“This is the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” Kei whispered between kisses. “A family of our own. I’ll protect you, Rion, my love. I’ll protect our little girl.”
Rion smiled against his lips, her heart full. “And I’ll protect you both, my love Kei. Always.”
With that, they kissed again, the world outside fading away as they embraced in the warmth of their love, ready to start this new chapter together. The future was uncertain, but with each other, they knew they could face anything. Under the peaceful night sky, with the moon and stars shining above, Rion and Kei began their new journey—one filled with family, love, and the promise of a beautiful future ahead.
