Chapter Text
Mack was running late.
Mack hated running late. It made him feel anxious, messed with his head. It made him feel…itchy. Sometimes he wondered if he scratched deep enough if he would feel some relief.
His phone had buzzed with the text that Will was here ten minutes ago. And it had sped up his heart, making him rush even though he knew, knew that Will would be waiting downstairs calmly, like he had all the time in the world.
Once Mack had tried to describe the feeling to Will but from the slight tip of his head and crease between his eyebrows, it had been clear that Will didn’t understand. Mack had decided to never bring that up again. Better for Will to not think about how off Mack was.
Mack grabbed his keys and hurried out the front door quickly realizing he had nowhere to keep them. He still couldn’t believe that he had let Will talk him into the costume that was currently making him run late. But maybe he could, he would do absolutely anything to make that boy happy.
The costume really shouldn’t have been a complicated thing to put on, the hardest part was the two puncture wounds on his neck. But Mack’s brain had gotten involved and he had second guessed the outfit until it had been far too late and then had to rush to get ready.
Mack carefully hurried down the stairs to the parking lot, careful not to trip over the him of the old fashioned nightgown or lose a slipper. A pillow was clutched under his arm and a candleholder with a battery operated candle dangled from the same hand.
He was almost down the stairs when suddenly he caught sight of Will. He was standing in front of his vehicle, staring off into the view and Mack had a perfect view of his profile. His blond hair was slicked back, product taking any curls out of it, which made Mack’s mouth curl downwards in displeasure. His eyes followed down the perfect slope of Will’s nose, traced over his slightly parted lips, thought about those lips against his skin last night.
He was perfect.
Even wearing the elaborate vampire costume. Tuxedo, velvet cape, with its collar turned up.
Mack heart did something weird at the sight of him, he just…loved him so much.
But sometimes Mack felt like an imposter. Like he was always wearing a costume, but of his emotions, one that Will was sure to see through.
It was going to happen.
It was only a matter of time.
Mack gave his head a shake, trying to dislodge the dark thoughts. He realized that he had come to a stop and continued on his way to Will.
He must have heard his slippers against the paved surface because Will turned, face breaking into a wide smile, vampire teeth and everything. “There you are,” his blue eyes sparkled. “Okay you look incredible,”
Mack flushed. “I’m wearing a nightgown,”
“Mmmm,” Will murmured, coming over to him, a hand wrapping around his waist. “One that I would like nothing more than to take off of you,”
“Come on, we’re late,” Mack protested, feeling himself turning redder.
“We could be later,” Will suggested with a raise of his eyebrow.
And Mack wasn’t sure why it happened but the next words to come out of his mouth were. “I think we should break up.”
