Time stood still

Work Text:

The early morning sunlight drifted through the curtains, cascading golden rays over the tangled mess of arms and legs in the white comforter. The Scrub Jays chirped away as usual, loud and full of energy as they are, enough to wake Jeremy Knox and immediately laid his eyes on the beautiful dark curls that laid next to him.

He scanned each detail over Jean Moreau’s stone carved face, as he does every morning. Reality normally settles a few minutes after he wakes up, from one dream to the next. Even when those dreams are filled with creatures meant for harm, Jeremy always wakes up to a reality without. Dark curls the color of obsidian, that reflected the golden sunlight. Beautiful skin that went through too much for him to bare. A gorgeous nose that has been through its fair share of abuse.

The sight was beholding, to wake up to this early in the morning. Jean seemed younger, more relaxed, as he rested next to Jeremy. ’Next to me, he tells himself with much delight, reality settling. For so long, Jeremy desired for exactly this scenario, to wake up next to a person he could call his. To finally feel a vulnerable comfort in which he never had before. Jeremy Knox could not remember the last time he had this, if he even had this at all.

Without even a moment’s hesitation, his hand brushed against Jean’s cheek, only to feel just how tangible this reality of his was. Seeing is believing, but touching is knowing, so Jeremy thinks. His hand gently smoothed over the stuck up curls away from Jean’s face, but the gentle touch woke him up regardless. Grey storm clouds peered over Jeremy, causing there to be a smile as calmness and serenity flooded over him.

“Good morning!” He spoke in clumsy French. Jeremy knew that he should practice more, so he tries to speak it every morning when they awake, and every afternoon when they are readying themselves for bed. “Did you sleep well?”

The moments after Jean wakes up are filled with satiety as he scanned Jeremy over with those grey eyes he so adored. “Yes. Did you?” He responded with a voice full of groveled rocks. “How long have you been awake for?”

“I always sleep well when I’m with you.” Jeremy stated, unbeknownst to how sickenly sweet it may sound to Jean. He shifted himself to face the window with a playfully annoyed look. “Until the birds woke me up, that is. It’s okay, at least I can wake up to see you first thing in the morning.”

Jean did his usual half scoff half laugh before pulling Jeremy closer toward him. He wrapped his arms around Jeremy’s waist and laid his head over his stomach. Immediately, from force of habit, Jeremy ran his fingers through his hair, smoothing out whatever tangle he could find.

The contact from Jean’s skin warmed Jeremy through, creating a fuzzy feeling to explode within his chest as he reveled in these waking minutes. All of the day’s worries did not matter to either of them. All that mattered was Jean’s warm skin, his curly hair, and the chirping of the birds.

Movement brought Jeremy’s attention away from Jean’s hair to the floor. A smile stretched on his face when he saw Jabberwocky bouncing up from the side of the bed. The dog made his way to his side and snuggled up next to him, staring at him. Jeremy knew exactly what Jabberwocky wanted, and could not resist the pleading eyes so he used his free hand to run his fingers through the dog’s fur.

This very moment felt so surreal. A dream made into reality. His dog and his person. Jeremy ran the words in his mind over and over, never growing tired of the impact it had on him.

Jean Moreau is my person. Mine. He could have chosen anyone else, but he chose me.

It’s truly a beautiful feeling to find someone that he can officially call his own. After being in the beds of many other men, he finally had his own that he can forever use with Jean-Yves Moreau. Jeremy never knew that this could happen, yet here he was, reveling in this moment.

“You are unusually quiet.” Jean lifted his head and peered into Jeremy, still with sleepiness cluttering his eyes. “What is on your mind?”

Jeremy looked around at every part of the bedroom, at the white comforter, the shimmering sunlight, the best dog next to him, the perfect human being on top of him. “Just thinking about you. Jab. Us.” Jabberwocky lifted his head when he heard his name. “What? Who’s a good boy?” The dog snuggled further into Jeremy and laid on his back for belly rubs. Jeremy indulged him with a giggle.

Jean raised an eyebrow, silently asking him what exactly he meant. A small sigh released from Jeremy’s chest. “I’m just very happy with how things turned out. I’ve been waiting for so long to find something like this, I don’t want it to end.”

“We need to get up soon for practice,” he said. Jeremy couldn’t help but smile at how irrevocably Jean the response was.

”Ugh, don’t remind me. Can we take a day to stay here? Me and you and Jab.” Jeremy pushed his bottom lip out to plead with Jean who seemed unimpressed. “We can order food and stay bedbound all day. Have sex, watch movies. The pros can wait.”

“Jeremy.” He continued to pout with a sense of refusal to leave the bed. “You know we can’t do that.”

“Twenty minutes? We don’t need to go until eight. There is plenty of time to-“

In a quick moment, Jean leaned into Jeremy, bringing their lips together. Possibly in a moment to shut Jeremy up, but he didn’t care. The sun glared over the two of them as they kissed. The rays illuminate over them in a golden glory. A soft moment meant only for Jeremy and Jean.

Jean pulled back only a little to speak. “You make it exceptionally hard for me to say no.”

He brought himself back in for another kiss, then pulled Jeremy closer towards him. “Does that mean I won this time?”

“Twenty minutes” was all Jean responded with. A satisfied smile spread along Jeremy’s face. Twenty minutes of the Scrub Jays chirping, of being wrapped up in Jean’s warm embrace, of being here in this moment.
