Chapter 1: Fright

Chapter Text

Lucifer was sitting on his balcony, drink in hand watching the sunrise. It was about 6:30. He hadn't slept, having spent most of the night satisfying Eve's desires. She had certainly developed a lot more of them since he first knew her.

She was in her bedroom, having finally fallen into a deep sleep about an hour ago. She was a good person, beautiful and fun-loving. However, he just felt empty, being with her had been feeling more like a chore than something he truly desired.

He flinched, startled out of his musings when his phone vibrated loudly on the glass table beside him. Who could possibly be calling at this time of day? He sighed and lifted it. The screen was lit up with bold white letters spelling out URCHIN over a photo of himself and Trixie on their first game night. He hadn't seen much of her or the detective recently. He tapped the screen to accept the call.

"Hello Urchin." Her voice came through, broken and sniffling. "Lucifer, I need you. Please." She sounded frightened and usually she was such a brave little thing. "Beatrice, what's wrong? Are you in danger?" There was a little sob. "No. It's Mommy. She won't wake up." A wave of panic hit him, but he put it to one side. "Are you at home?"
"Yes."
"Right. I'll be there in five minutes."

Chapter 2: Touch

Chapter Text

The panic returned with full force when Lucifer put down the phone. They might be at an impasse right now, but he couldn't lose her, not like this. He glared angrily at the ceiling as he threw on the first clothes he could find. "We had a deal Dad. I swear if You have let her die now, I will break down your bloody gates!"

He didn't take time to sort out his hair, but strode straight to the balcony, unfurling his wings as soon as he got through the door. With one last angry look at the morning sky he took flight. He had promised to be at Chloe's apartment in five minutes. He was there in three.

Trixie was sitting in the open doorway, arms wrapped around her knees. He hadn't intended for her to see him arrive but there was nothing he could do about that now. He crouched down and picked her up. She clung on to him, sobbing quietly against his neck.

He carried her inside. "Tell me what's happening." She rubbed at her eyes. "She just talks in her sleep but won't wake up. Your name was the only word I could understand." He sighed in relief. She was alive. He could take a moment to speak with the child.

He sat down with her on his lap. "So that's why you called me?" She nodded. "And you always help us."
"I always will little one."

"What can you tell me about your mother?"
"She got hurt at work last week. She said she was okay but I could tell she was still hurting."
"Hurt with a gun?" She shook her head. "A knife, here," she said poking him in the ribs. "Alright, let's see what we can do." She led him to her mom's bedroom.

Chloe was indeed asleep but not peacefully. She tossed her head to the side mumbling something. Her cheeks were flushed but below that she was extremely pale. He pressed his hand to her forehead. She was burning hot. "She has a fever. Can you get a wet towel please child. We need to cool her down."

Trixie went off to the bathroom. Lucifer pulled back the covers and got to his knees. "Excuse me, Detective," he muttered. He lifted the grey t-shirt she wore and peeled back the dressing.

There was indeed a knife wound on her side, about five inches long, not deep but very red and clearly infected. Trixie came back with the towel. He gently ran his fingertips along the injury. Chloe flinched and squirmed but didn't wake.

He turned to Trixie. "Thank you." He smiled at her. "Don't worry. I can fix this if you help me."

Chapter 3: Emotion

Chapter Text

Trixie sat quietly while Lucifer made a call. He put the phone on speaker while he cleared some space in the living room. "Hello. It's early Luci."
"Oh. It's you."
"Charming."
"I don't have time for niceties. Is the doctor awake?"
"Yes, she's just taking a shower."
"Right well, make yourself useful and fly her over to Chloe's apartment as soon as she's dressed."
"Fly?!" Trixie giggled and Lucifer winked at her. "Yes fly brother. It's quite urgent." He ended the call without another word.

Lucifer rubbed his hands together. "Right then, my assistant." Trixie grinned. "Are we going to use special Devil skills?" He dipped his eyebrows. "Your mother told you I'm the Devil?" She looked at him like he was losing his mind. "No, you did, when we met. Don't you remember?"
"Yes I do, but people don't usually believe me."
"You don't lie," she said simply. "And you're not scared of me?"
"No, you're my friend silly." Lucifer opened his mouth and snapped it shut again. "Anyway, Mommy told me you're an angel too."
"She did?" This didn't fit with how he believed Chloe felt about him after the near poisoning incident. "Uh-huh."

He didn't have time to stop and think about his emotions right now. He had asked the doctor over for the detective's benefit, but he should maybe have a chat with her too. "Lucifer?" Trixie brought him back to the present. "Yes, right, so that's why you weren't surprised to see my wings."
"Yep, but where's your ring?" He held up his hand. "Right here."
"No, the angel ring on your head."
"What? Oh, a halo. That's not a real thing. Humans made it up. I do have fabulous hair though." She giggled at him. He ran his hand through his hair. "Yes, well, it's usually fabulous. I left in a hurry this morning."

"To answer your question, yes we are using special skills." He unfurled his wings. Her gaze moved from the tip of one wing to the other, eyes sparkling with delight.

"Okay then," he said beckoning her forward. "We need a middle sized feather, about the same size as your mum's cut." She jumped onto a step stool and examined the wing. "Like this?" He tilted his head. "Hmm, yes that's a good size, now can you find one that size on the back?" She ducked under the wing. "Got one. Now what?"
"I need you to pull it out if you can." Her worried face appeared under the wing. "Won't it hurt?" He gave her a smile. "Not much, don't worry."

Linda dashed through the door. "What's wrong? Why am I here Lucifer?"
"I'll explain everything Doctor. For now, would you mind sitting with Chloe? I'll be there in a moment. She's in the bedroom. I apologise for hijacking your Saturday." Linda nodded and went in search of her friend.

Amenadiel came in. "What about my Saturday Luci?" Lucifer rolled his eyes. "He's so needy, we had better give him a job Urchin." Trixie giggled and waved at him from her position under Lucifer's wing. "I have an assistant, but you can be the muscle if she needs a little help."

Chapter 4: Armour

Chapter Text

Lucifer had asked Amenadiel to give him a couple of minutes to update Linda before bringing Trixie through. Entering the room he found the doctor soothing Chloe's forehead with the wet towel. "Lucifer, what's happened?"
"Let me show you." He lifted Chloe's shirt again. Linda drew a breath in. "That looks nasty."
"I thought infected, yes?" Linda sighed. "You know I'm not that kind of doctor, but yes definitely infected."

"Did she get this injury at work?" He nodded. "Yes, according to the child." He ran his hand through his hair. "I haven't been there to protect her." She put her hand on his arm. "This is not your fault Lucifer. The only one to blame was the criminal holding the knife."
"I know but still."

"We need to help Chloe now, but then you and I are going to talk. Is Trixie how you knew to come here?" He nodded. "Yes I got a call this morning. She said mummy won't wake up." Linda gasped and covered her mouth. "Yes. It's quite a talent to scare an immortal half to death."

Amenadiel and Trixie came in then. She was proudly carrying a white feather which she handed to Lucifer. Linda crouched down in front of her. "You've been very brave today Trixie. Well done for calling Lucifer. That was exactly the right thing to do." Trixie smiled. "He can fix anything." Amenadiel raised an eyebrow in Lucifer's direction as Linda hugged Trixie.

"Alright ladies," said Lucifer. "I need you both to close your eyes."
"Awwh!" Trixie complained. "There's going to be an extremely bright light. I don't want your mother waking up to find I've blinded her offspring."
"Okay." She squeezed her eyes shut tight. Lucifer was then able to press the feather to the wound.

The room was filled with a blinding white light. Linda could sense it even with her eyes shut. When it was safe to look again, Lucifer stood with a feather that was now grey and lifeless. The wound was completely gone, not even a scar. "That's amazing," she said with an awed voice.

"She didn't wake up," said Trixie sounding disappointed. "She still needs something for the fever," said Linda, feeling Chloe's head. "Does your mom have medicine for when you're sick?"
"Yes. I can show you."
"Don't worry, she's doing better already. Lucifer took her pain away."

"Amenadiel will help you reach the medicine box, then maybe you can show him how to make a get well card." She nodded enthusiastically. "He's going to be a dad soon. He needs to practice." Lucifer grinned broadly at his brother and clapped a hand on his shoulder. "Couldn't have said it better myself big guy."

Amenadiel scowled at him and picked up Trixie. She reached out for Lucifer. He took her and she threw her arms round his neck. "Thank you Lucifer. You're awesome."
"As are you little one." He kissed her head and handed her back.

When they left the room Linda said, "she adores you." He smiled shyly. "She is certainly quite unique." Linda nodded and nudged him. "That's for sure. She's made quite a dent in that armour of yours."

Chapter 5: Close

Chapter Text

Linda took what she needed from the box of medicines. "Lucifer, could you take this back and bring a glass of water please?" He nodded and left the room. Linda opened the window to let some air circulate and pulled one curtain over to keep the sun off Chloe's face.

Lucifer returned with a pitcher of ice water as well as a glass. "Thanks Lucifer. I think now that the source of the fever is gone, these meds should help it break. Also I'm not 100% sure of any of this because I'm not the kind of doctor!" Lucifer put an arm around her shoulders. "I have faith in you Doctor." Linda took a deep breath. "Right. If she's been like this since last night she's probably very dehydrated. We need to try to wake her now."
"Alright." He turned on his heel and headed for the door.

"Wait. Why are you running away?" He turned back. "I'm the Devil, Doctor. I don't run away." She gave him that look she did when she was waiting for him to say something. "You know everything that happened between us. She said she is terrified of me. I wanted you here because of how she might react, waking up to find me in her home. All things considered though, it might be better that she doesn't see me at all."

"I know she said that, but we've talked since then. We compared notes on seeing your other face for the first time. I really think she's starting to get her head round it. I need your help. Please." He sighed. "Very well, if you really think so."

Chloe could hear a distant voice calling her. Her eyelids felt too heavy to be worth the effort of opening. She finally managed to get them half open. "Linda?" She tried to push herself up. No. Bad idea. Pain and pressure were fighting for dominance in her brain. She squinted, her vision was blurry too.

Someone helped her sit up. "You've been ill Chloe. Take these." She took the pills and swallowed them. "Now, drink this and you can go back to sleep." She hummed, sleep sounded good. She drank and was lowered back to the pillow. The blurred figure moved back across the room.

She closed her eyes tight and opened them again in an effort to see clearly but it didn't work. "Who's that?"
"It's Lucifer."
"Oh."
"I can leave if you wish Detective."
"No come here, I can't see you, come close, closer." Lucifer glanced at Linda. She gave him an encouraging nod, so he sat down gently on the edge of the bed. "What is it you desire?"

Chloe's headache seemed to clear for a moment and her eyes slowly opened wide. She felt compelled to answer the question completely honestly, as if there was nothing more important. "I want you to be mine."

Chapter 6: Cloud

Chapter Text

Chloe had sunk straight back into a deep sleep after making her declaration, leaving Lucifer in a state of shock and disbelief. "What..? Did my..? Did she..? Doctor?" Linda was a little less shocked but still struggling to formulate an answer. She heard running footsteps and tugged Lucifer's arm.

She pulled the door behind her as they stepped out into the hallway. She put a finger to her lips to quiet the excited little girl. "Mom is sleeping, Trixie."
"I thought I heard her voice."
"You did, but she was awake just long enough to take medicine."
"Oh." Her eyes were downcast as was her demeanour. "She's been sleeping so long."

They went into the next room, Linda trying to think how she could explain this. "Mommy is having a better sleep now. Before, she was too sick to be able to wake up. It's a bit like when you wake up from a bad dream. You've been asleep, but you don't feel rested. Do you understand?" She nodded. "Yes. I don't like bad dreams." Linda pulled her into a hug and felt her little body melt against her. "What have you got there?"

"I made a card. This is Mommy and me," she said pointing. "And that's Lucifer, flying through the clouds to help us."
"It's beautiful Trixie. Mom will love it." Lucifer gave them a soft smile. "How did Amenadiel do?" Linda whispered. Trixie giggled. "Needs more practice."
"Why don't you go in and put that on the nightstand, then she'll see it as soon as she wakes up."

When Trixie was out of the room Amenadiel said, "you know I planned to go to the Dodgers game with Dan today?" Linda nodded. "I texted him and he said to bring Trixie along and she can stay at his place tonight."
"That's a great idea. Trixie deserves a treat and Chloe can have more time to recover."
"Excuse me a moment." Lucifer stepped out to make a quick call.

Trixie came up to him as he ended the call. "Mum still sleeping?" She nodded sadly and he picked her up. "What's up? I hear you're going to a baseball game. Don't you like it?" She gave a little smile. "I do, but what if Mommy wakes up?"
"She's going to be okay. I'm going to stay here with her and I'll get her to call you when she wakes." She hugged him tightly. "I have a surprise for you, come on."

They went back into the room and Lucifer put a hand on Amenadiel's shoulder. "Thank you brother."
"What's my surprise," said Trixie eagerly, bouncing in his arms. Lucifer smiled. "When you get to the stadium, there will be three VIP tickets waiting at the box office under the name Beatrice Espinoza." Her face lit up and she hugged him again. "Thank you Lucifer!"

Chapter 7: Liquid

Chapter Text

Dan had picked up Trixie and Amenadiel for their afternoon at the ball park. As soon as they were gone Lucifer headed off to the kitchen. "Lucifer, we need to talk. Now." His voice came from inside a kitchen cabinet. "Yes I know."

"What are you doing?" said Linda. "I'm looking for, ah there it is." He pulled out a half full bottle of whiskey. "Liquid refreshment. I left it here after the detective foisted cheap wine on my sophisticated palate." Linda shook her head and muttered, "more likely liquid courage."

He offered her a drink. "No thanks, it's a bit early for me." She took some juice out of the fridge instead. "It's not early when you haven't been to sleep yet." She raised her eyebrows but she knew being up all night wasn't unusual for him, particularly when he was avoiding dealing with something. "Come and talk with me and then you can get some rest." He glanced toward the bedroom. "She's fine, but we'll go in that room next to hers. That way we can hear if she wakes." He nodded.

Maze's old room was currently storing a lot of Trixie's old clothes and toys that Chloe was attempting to sort through. Lucifer sat in silence looking down at his glass. "I'm not sure where to start," he said finally. "How about your mojo?"
"I have no idea. She's always been immune. I wasn't even really trying."
"You don't usually have to try though do you?"
"No, but why would it suddenly start working on her now?" He looked completely lost.

"I have a theory about that." He looked up at her. "Do tell."
"I don't think she's lost that immunity."
"It worked Doctor. We both saw it."
"Yes, but I think it could be a one time thing. Fevers in humans can have a lot of effects that they wouldn't normally suffer from. Some people can have seizures or even hallucinations."
"So, in her case the mojo worked due to the fever." She nodded. "I can't be sure but I also can't see any other significant changes that could cause it." He nodded slowly and refilled his glass. "That makes sense."

"Alright, but that's just mechanics. What we really to talk about is what she said and how you feel about it." He met her her eyes and opened his mouth to speak, but just gave a deep sigh and raked his fingers through his hair. "Lucifer," she said gently. "I know it's not what you were expecting but it's not that long since you told me that you wanted her to choose you."
"That was before she saw the monster."

They had been skirting his issues of self worth for years. "It sounds like she's dealing with your former life better than you are now." He didn't say anything. "What do you want Lucifer? Do you still want to be with Chloe or are you happy with Eve?"
"Chloe." He didn't even need to think about it.

"I don't feel anything beyond friendship for Eve. I've just been going along with what she wants."
"Let yourself be happy Lucifer." He looked at her with sadness. Linda moved to sit beside him, placing her hand on his arm. "You deserve to be happy Lucifer, whether you believe that or not. I want you back in session and we're going to deal with your issues, but for now talk to Chloe. She's just made her feelings very clear."

He gave her a tiny lopsided smile. "You're right, thank you Doctor."
"Okay, now go in there and get some sleep." He turned to her with wide eyes. "In Chloe's bed?"
"Well unless you think you can fit those long legs in Trixie's?" He huffed. "Just get some rest while she's sleeping. I'm going to get an uber. I think you two will be fine, but call if you need me."

Chapter 8: Hot

Chapter Text

Lucifer went into the bedroom. Chloe looked much more peaceful now and her cheeks were no longer flushed. He was struck once more by how beautiful she was. He refilled the glass on her nightstand, walked around the bed and removing only his shoes, lay down beside her.

Her hand was lying palm up beside him and as tempted as he was to take her hand, he didn't want to wake her. He just let their pinky fingers touch and tried to work out what he would say to her. He fell asleep though after a couple of minutes.

***

Chloe woke a couple of hours later. Her hand rested on her stomach, but it was covered by another wearing a very familiar silver ring. She turned her head to see Lucifer, asleep on his side. He was lying on top of the covers, dressed in shirt and pants. This felt like something she should remember.

Searching her memory, she came up empty. She couldn't remember much at all since dinner with Trixie last night. The little bits she could recall were hazy, like a dream. She pushed herself up against the headboard and reached for the glass of water. Suddenly realising how thirsty she was, she drank most of it.

She turned back to find Lucifer's eyes open and watching her now. "Um, hi."
"Good afternoon Detective." She crinkled her brow and lifted her phone to check the time but it was dead. "Why are you in my bed?"
"Technically I'm on your bed." None of this was helpful. "Lucifer what's going on and why can't I remember?"
"There's an artistic impression of today's events on your nightstand if you want to start there."

Chloe reached across and her fingers found a sheet of paper lying flat. She smiled, immediately recognising Trixie's work. Inside the card it said - Feel better soon. I love you Mommy. From Trixie xxxxx. She closed the card. The front had a drawing of her and Trixie. She pointed to the third figure. "Is this you?"
"Yes."
"Alright. Explain."

Lucifer sat up now too. "I will, but first, how are you feeling?"
"Not 100% but better than I have in a while actually." He smiled. "Good, you were very sick. We were worried."
"Linda was here then, I didn't dream that?" He nodded. "She's gone now, it's just us."
"Okay. Oh. Trixie. Is she alright?"
"She's fine. I promised I would have you call when you woke."
"Where is she?"
"Dodger Stadium."
"Excuse me!"
"With Daniel and Amenadiel. They're having one of their weird bromance days. She's staying with Daniel tonight." She chuckled. "Okay." She leaned across and plugged her phone into the charger.

"I'm here because this morning the urchin couldn't wake you and she called to ask me for help." Chloe lifted her hand to her mouth. "She must have been scared." He nodded. "She was very brave today. When I got here you were mumbling incoherently in your sleep and very hot, not in the usual way." He flashed her a quick grin. "Your wound was infected."

Tears started to pour down her face. "This is all my fault."

Chapter 9: Wet

Chapter Text

"Don't cry, please. You were hurt, it's not your fault."
"I scared Trixie and everyone was worried and I don't deserve it because I knew." She was sobbing now and Lucifer had no idea how to comfort her. He wrapped his arms around her and held her against his chest until she calmed.

He loosened his hold and she pulled back. "Okay?" She nodded. "What did you know?" She pulled the sheet up and wiped her eyes. "I knew it was infected and did nothing. Putting up with a little pain was the least I deserved after everything I did, but I didn't know it would get this bad." He closed his eyes for a second. This was about him.

He took her hands. "Listen to me. The last thing I want you to feel is guilt. I already forgave you for all of that."
"You did?" He smiled and nodded. "No doubt I shall forgive you for this wet shirt too." He grinned, plucking at it. She smiled. "That's better. That's all in the past as is your injury."
"What?"
"Take a look."

She pulled her shirt aside but saw nothing. She checked the other side thinking she had forgotten that too, but no, nothing. She looked back at Lucifer in amazement. "It's gone!"
"Mhmm." He was holding a grey, lifeless and very limp feather and frowning at it. "Is that..?" He nodded. "One of mine, yes. They're not just for flying." He was twisting it in his fingers. "You look confused Detective."
"I'm not quite keeping up."

"Angel feathers can heal. This one was white and certainly much less limp when your spawn plucked it. I used it to heal your wound."
"That's incredible, Lucifer." She hugged him tight and said, "thank you," against his chest. "You're very welcome."

Chloe hadn't spoken for a few minutes when Lucifer said, "are you asleep again?"
"No!" She sat up, pouting. With an arm around her Lucifer said, "Detective, do you happen to remember anything else, perhaps when Linda was in the room?" Chloe tried to think. She thought at first that Linda was part of her dream. What else happened in it? Her eyes went very wide. "The mojo," she whispered, mostly to herself.

"Oh my God!" Chloe covered her face with her hands. Lucifer raised an amused eyebrow and gently lowered her hands. "I see it's coming back to you, but I would appreciate if we could leave Dad out of this."
"Oh. Yeah. Sorry." He took hold of her hand. "Chloe, what you said." She looked down and sighed. "I didn't mean to say it, but now you know."

Lucifer put two fingers on her jaw to turn her face. "Chloe, I am yours. I always have been."
"Really?" she said very quietly. He nodded. "What about your uh..?"
"Eve?" She nodded. "She's an ex and an old friend, but you're the one I want to be with. I'll talk to her." He leaned his forehead on hers, both smiling. "May I kiss you?"
"No."

"I'm sweaty and horrible and I can't even remember if I brushed my teeth last night." He chuckled and kissed her forehead. "I will always choose you - even when you're horrible." She pouted. He didn't have to agree, but what he said was sweet too. "Would you like me to prepare a bath for you?"
"Thanks but no. I'd just fall asleep in it. A shower will do fine."

Chapter 10: Body

A longer chapter to finish this one.

Chapter Text

Lucifer was on his way back to the penthouse. Chloe had assured him several times that she was perfectly capable of showering without his assistance. He had promised the urchin he would take care of her. "Lucifer, I'll be fine. I'm not sick now. The only thing that could happen is I fall asleep yet again." He agreed but promised to be back as soon as possible.

He wanted to talk with Eve. It felt too close to lying to let her think nothing had changed. She deserved the chance to find someone who could make her happy. He touched down on the balcony, but the apartment was empty. He spotted a sheet of paper on top of the piano. She had left him a note.

He read through the message twice, to be sure he was seeing correctly. "Bloody hell!" Then catching sight of his reflection in the glossy surface, decided he could probably do with a quick shower too before he headed back.

When he stepped out of the shower, his wet hair sending rivulets of water running down his body, his mind wandered. He rubbed his head with a towel. He had experienced more emotions today than he was aware he possessed. He had the chance now to be with Chloe. He had to find a way to not screw this up. Maybe he should ask the doctor about that.

Mentally shaking himself out of his thoughts, he dressed quickly and slipped the folded note into his pocket. He didn't want to bother tackling the traffic and took flight again from the balcony. He was very glad to have wings today.

He arrived at Chloe's apartment a few minutes later and let himself in. He was about to call out when he saw her asleep on the sofa. Her hair was still damp and falling in waves. He smiled and slipped his jacket off. He rolled his sleeves up and set to work in the kitchen. She had to be hungry by now.

As he walked over with two plates of her favourite egg sandwiches, he saw she was awake, arms leaning on the back of the sofa, watching him. "Hello there, another nap?"
"Yeah, I may have overestimated my energy levels." He kissed her on the cheek. "You just need to rest. I thought something simple since you haven't eaten all day."
"Thank you. This is perfect. Are you waiting for permission to kiss me properly?"
"Yes, just this once."
"Interesting. I'm getting an idea." He raised his eyebrows. "Oh?" She grinned. "Wait and see."

As they ate Chloe said, "today could've gone very differently." Lucifer gave an involuntary shudder. "I'd rather not think about it."
"Trix is smart enough to call for help but if she'd chosen 911, I'd probably be in hospital with some kind of IV in my arm."
"And I would've been oblivious." She squeezed his hand. "She made the right choice."

"You're really not afraid of me anymore?"
"No," she said decisively. "I'm not sure I ever was."
"That's not what you said." Chloe fell silent, trying to think how best to describe what happened. "I..."
"You don't have to explain."
"No. I need to, then we can move on." He nodded agreement.

"I was scared in the beginning, when I first saw your face. I needed to get away."
"I assume you were okay." She crinkled her brow in confusion. "When the medics took you away. You had been shot."
"Oh, yes, just bruised, but I know you weren't." He looked up at her. "Lucifer, the bloody feathers everywhere were hard to miss."
"I'll answer any questions you have, but maybe another time. I'm perfectly healed now." She nodded and continued her story.

"Once I was away, I had space to think about everything. I felt so alone, believing I was the only human who knew. I really needed to talk to someone and the wrong person found me." She was looking down, fiddling with her fingers. Lucifer took her hand and laced their fingers together. She gave him a sad smile.

"Kinley, he seemed like he wanted to help me at first and I trusted him. He filled my head with such horrible scenarios, made me believe it was my responsibility to help him."
"He manipulated you." She nodded. "I realise that now, but he was just so convincing." A tear spilled down her face. Lucifer kissed her temple and pulled her close.

Chloe took a deep breath. "Anyway, I came back and started to see you as the man I remembered. My partner who had always protected me. I knew you would never hurt me. Then I found out that Linda knew and having another person confirm my thoughts that the real you was the man we had always known, made all the difference."

She hugged him and whispered, "I'm sorry."
"No more apologies," he said softly wiping the tear away. "And no more tears tonight." Chloe put the plates together and stood, but he pulled her back down. "What are you doing?"
"I feel like a hot chocolate."
"I'll get it. You're the patient." She smiled. "You're very sweet."
"So I've heard," he grunted as he walked away.

"What does that mean? Did you talk to Eve?" He was in the kitchen making a cup of hot chocolate for her. "The situation has been resolved." Chloe knew him well enough to know when he wasn't entirely answering a question. "What did she say? Ws she upset?"
"Certainly not." He sighed and took the note out of his jacket. He carried the chocolate and a glass of whiskey over, holding the note in his teeth.

"The penthouse was empty. She left this." Chloe opened the note and read it.

- Hey Luce, you're very sweet but I think I can have more fun with Maze. I moved my things to her place. See you soon. Eve x.

"You were planning to break up with her anyway, weren't you?"
"Yes, but nobody is more fun than me!" A laugh bubbled up from Chloe's throat. "And the Devil is not sweet."
"He so is." He huffed. "The Devil just made me hot chocolate." She sipped at it. "And it's really delicious. Everyone is with the person they want, aren't they?" He smiled. "Yes. I know I am."

Chloe drank some of the chocolate, took Lucifer's face in her hands and kissed him. When she pulled back needing to breathe, he was smiling. "Your idea was extra delicious kissing. I wholeheartedly approve." She returned his smile. "Sorry I'm not up for more tonight."
"There's no rush. I want you to get well." He lifted her legs so that they lay over his lap. "Will you stay tonight?"
"Of course."

They sat together contentedly. "Why does your mojo work on me now?"
"I'm not sure that it would work again. Linda thinks it may have been due to the fever."
"Okay, ask me then, let's check." He looked deep into her eyes. "What is it you truly desire?"
'Linda was right but I am glad it worked that one time."
"As am I, Detective."

"I was thinking your mojo isn't just about desire."
"Isn't it?" She shook her head. "It's truth as well."
"I never thought about it that way."
"It makes sense. Truth is a big part of who you are. I love that about you."

"Oh really, what else do you love about me?" She gave him a flat look. "I am not going to list your qualities." He gave her a delighted grin. "There's a list?" She narrowed her eyes. "From the moment I laid eyes on you Morningstar."
"Yes?"
"I knew you would be trouble." He put his hand to his heart in feigned shock. "You wound me Detective." She rolled her eyes and the grin was back. He leaned close to her ear and said, "I have a long list of your charms too."

"You look tired again." She nodded. "I am. I think I should go to bed." Lucifer stood with her in his arms. "I am capable of walking, you know."
"I know you are. Let me look after you." She smiled, wrapping her arms around him and rested her head against his shoulder.

Upstairs, Lucifer asked if she wanted to change. "Yes. I want that," she said pointing at him. "What?" he said, twisting to look behind him. She walked over. "This." She pulled at his shirt. "Certainly, but you only had to say if you wanted me naked." She rolled her eyes at his devilish smirk.

Lucifer stripped down to his boxer's and was in bed when Chloe came back from the bathroom dressed in his shirt. She slipped in beside him. "You are beautiful." She smiled and kissed him and was very soon asleep.

***

They both slept soundly all night. Lucifer woke first. Chloe's head was on his chest. He brought a hand up to stroke her hair. He would think this had all been a dream, but he knew he could never have imagined all this would happen in a single day. It had to be real. Chloe stirred and opened her eyes. She smiled dreamily at him. "Hi."
"Good morning. How are you feeling?"
"Much better. I feel..."
"Yes, what do you need?"
"I want you," she said with a twinkle in her eye. "Are you absolutely sure Chloe?" She teased his curls with her fingers. "Yes."
"In that case, I'm all yours."
