Work Text:
Metropolis, being in the Northeast part of the country, was no stranger to cold weather in the wintertime, but that didn't mean that its residents were immune to how miserable it got when a freak blizzard rolled through. Most of the city had hunkered down, staying indoors for warmth, which only worked until the second day when there was a massive, city-wide power outage. The utilities company promised to get things up and running as soon as possible, but there was no set time on when that would be.
Lois had been holed up in the apartment for the better part of the last 48 hours, unsure of what to do since no power meant no internet. She had resorted to pen and paper to organize her notes, and had taken one very icy journey outside to get accounts of how her fellow Metropolitans were faring.
Clark hadn't been home much since the storm hit, as he had been out as Superman rescuing citizens and helping them get by until the lights and heat came back on again. Lois' phone still worked, since she'd invested in several battery-powered chargers years ago, so she was able to get periodic updates through the wire service and social media. Superman had been included in a lot of those updates, from rescuing workers in a building after its frozen pipes had burst, to someone driving their car into a snow bank, to helping a group of children find enough black rocks to use as eyes for their family of snowmen. He was keeping very busy.
So when Lois finally heard the balcony door open, followed by an icy blast of wind, she figured he'd be ready to rest for real this time. "Did you bring home any good news?"
Clark came into view a second later, brushing the snow off of his suit. "No, sorry. Estimates on power coming back are now 'late tonight.'" He ducked into the bedroom for a quick change, but she could still hear him as he continued speaking. "Some businesses got theirs back, though. Metro Gym is offering free hot showers at all their locations that have power, and you don't have to be a member to use them."
Lois moaned. "A hot shower sounds amazing right now. You couldn't heat vision me a bath or some soup, could you?" She was only partially kidding. As she camped out on the couch, she had amassed a veritable mountain of blankets, throws, and pillows to keep the cold at bay.
Clark, now in sweats, emerged from the bedroom and made himself comfortable on the couch next to her. "If I could guarantee I wouldn't set the building on fire, I'd definitely do it for you."
She settled against him as he made his way under her pile of covers. She relished the vast amount of body heat Clark put out and decided that she could probably survive the outage for another few days as long as she had him as her personal space heater. Clark must have felt the same way, because he sighed and let all the tension out of his body, relaxing further into the cushions.
"The second the power comes back on," he said, "I'm digging out that heated blanket I got from the Planet's Secret Santa last year."
"You are a heated blanket," Lois pointed out. "I'm surprised you're not sweating under all these layers right now." She was more than happy to continue siphoning heat from him if that was the case.
He laughed softly at that, leaning over to kiss her neck. She shivered despite no longer being so cold, and tilted her head back to give him better access. "Then," he decided. "I'm happy to share."
The power came back on about half an hour later, but neither one of them noticed right away. They had been too preoccupied, and remained that way for some time afterwards.
