Work Text:
Peter promised to be at your door by ten pm. It was nearing midnight when you finally heard the telltale knock on your front door. You slowly rose from your couch, cautious as you walked over to answer it.
Peter was bruised everywhere, his suit torn up and cuts all over his body. You winced at the sight of him.
"Sorry I'm late."he muttered with an apologetic smile.
"Looks like you had a reason."
You ushered your superhero boyfriend into your apartment, closing the door behind him and leading him over to your couch.
"Let me get a washcloth."you said softly. "Take the suit off."
"Y/N-"
"Peter, we can talk in a minute. Let me take care of you first. You look like you ran through a tornado."
Peter only nodded solemnly, his gaze apologetic. You walked into your bathroom and wet a washcloth and headed back to your living room. Peter had shedded his suit off, leaving it balled up on the couch next to him.
"You're sure we can't just talk while you help?"he asked softly.
"Fine, fine."you replied, starting to wipe the blood from his battered skin.
"I thought that I could have a quiet patrol. It was worse than I expected though. These thugs really wanted a fight and it took so long to get them to stand down."
"I figured. I'm sure that I'll see it on the news in the morning."
"But I promise it won't always be like that."
You only nodded, kissing his cheek and setting the washcloth aside with his suit.
"Can we just go to bed?"he asked.
"You were the one that wanted to talk."
"I want to apologize."
"For doing the one thing you've always wanted to do? I'm not upset with you for it. I was just afraid you were much worse off than you are."
"I'm okay."
"You're all beat up, baby."
"I know."
You pulled him from the couch and led him to your room. He picked up the sweatpants he left here for nights like this, pulling them on with a little bit of difficulty. You laid down in bed, your stomach churning with worry as you watched his slight wince.
"I love you, you know that right?"Peter asked.
"I love you too. So so much."
"I found an apartment, by the way. One we could actually afford."
You smiled softly, watching as he laid down beside you. "You really are a hopeless romantic, aren't you?"
"Only for you, sweetheart."
You rested your head on his chest, one arm slung over his waist. He traced the curve of your hip with his fingertips.
"So tell me about this apartment."you hummed, closing your eyes.
"Well, it's in the middle of manhattan, close to your job. Close to the paper too so I can get to my day job."
You smiled. "How much is it?"
"Three hundred a month. Two bedrooms."
"Two?"
"I thought it might be nice in case there's kids in the future."
"You would make a great father. But I can't think what would happen if you really got hurt though."
"I know. I don't think I'll ever be able to stop though."
You sat up slightly, leaning down to kiss him softly. Peter rested one hand on the back of your head, his fingers toying with your hair as he returned the kiss.
"The only thing I'm asking for is that you be more careful. I want a future with you so bad it keeps me up at night. So make sure that we're allowed to have a future."you whispered.
"I will. I promise that, sweetheart."
"Good."
Peter turned you onto your back, leaning down to deepen the kiss. You wrapped your arms around his shoulders, running your fingers through his tousled brown hair.
"You are my entire world."Peter whispered. "And I'm going to make sure that I stay in yours."
"You're mine too."
Peter leaned down, pressing tender kisses to your neck. Out of habit, you tilted your head to the side, allowing him as much access as he wanted.
"I'm so in love with you."he whispered against your soft skin.
"I love you too."
Peter continued kissing your neck, not trying to turn you on, just showing you the affection you'd been hoping for all night. It was a talent that only he seemed to have. It truly didn't matter what else happened to him, he could really fix anything just by holding you and kissing you and whispering sweet things into your ear.
"Please, kiss me."you whispered softly.
Peter obliged, in a way only he could, his lips moulding to yours and making your heart flutter in your chest. You ran your fingers down the bare skin of his back, feeling every muscle under his skin.
"You must be so tired."you whispered, remembering the night he had.
"You're better than coffee."Peter smiled and moved over to lay next to you.
"Hmmm. Even so, you should get some rest."
"Okay okay. I fold, baby."
"Good."
You turned over, nestling yourself into his side. Peter's arm came to wrap around your waist and just like that, your sweet, nerdy boyfriend fell right to sleep.
