Summary
“I begged him to burn you, Dean!” My voice cracks on his name. “I knew that’s what you wanted, what all hunters should do. He said no, that he was going to find a way to bring you back, and you’d need your body. And I told him, ‘Dean would never forgive us, forgive you if you brought him back.’ You know what he told me? He said—” The anger at the conversation with Sam surges back up in me, but the last of the words die in my throat.
“He said what? What, Tristan?” Dean’s voice is low and dangerous, and it’s all I need to push through.
“He told me that I was an idiot for thinking I knew the first thing about you.”
The silence is loud in the car. Bobby shakes his head, mutters something that I don’t bother trying to hear. Dean doesn’t move, just continues to stare out the window at the passing fields. It's another minute before I speak again.
“I was ready to mourn you, Dean. I moved on. As much as anyone can in four months. There hasn’t been a day that hasn’t hurt, but don’t think I never smiled.”
