Summary:

Mira is having a strange recurring nightmare that she thinks might mean something. Zoey and Rumi are eventually able to comfort and reassure her.

Work Text:

Mira was having the same dream again. The one where Huntrix is performing on a moving platform suspended in the air above the massive crowd beneath them. She’s performing with Rumi and Zoey as normal, but then everything just stops.

The crowd goes all silent, and Rumi and Zoey stop their dancing and singing mid-song. Mira lowers her mic, confused and looking around frantically.

Why is this happening? She has to ask herself, because she can’t even speak. Zoey, Rumi, and all the people in the crowd are staring at her with strange expressions on their faces. And then, she suddenly feels herself being pushed by someone, and she’s falling into the crowd.

They don’t try to catch her, and she hits the ground, but doesn’t feel anything. The faces in the crowd are looking down with wide, unnatural grins on their faces. They’re not demons, but they’re sure acting like it.

Rumi and Zoey float above them and then say in unison, “You’re out, Mira.” The grinning crowd then attacks, and she’s screaming.

And that’s when she wakes up. Today was no exception. She woke up in bed with her heart racing, looking back and forth frantically. Rumi and Zoey are lying on each side of her, just sleeping. What is this dream even about? Am I losing it or something? She asks herself.

Just then, Zoey wakes up and yawns. “M-mira, something wrong?” She sits up in the bed. “You look pale and like you just saw a demon or something.”

“Oh, it’s nothing,” Mira says, trying to laugh it off.

Rumi soon wakes up as well, and just like Zoey, is quick to notice that Mira seems off. She rubs her eyes, then says, “Mira, are you having that one dream again? With the creepy smiling people?”

“Yeah, that’s the one.”

“We would never push you down!” Zoey assures her, then lays her head on Mira’s shoulder. While she didn’t think her dream was predicting the future or anything, or that her girlfriends would ever hurt her, she couldn’t help but feel that it meant something. But she wasn’t exactly sure what.

Rumi lays her head on the other shoulder and strokes Mira’s arm. “That’s right, we wouldn’t do that.”

She sighs, enjoying their touch. “I know…” But the grinning faces of the crowd kept flashing in her mind.

**

Later that day, Huntrix would have a concert. It went normally, but Mira was paranoid about failing and having the crowd turn against her the entire time it was going on. Managing to perform without freaking out was a miracle.

When they returned to the penthouse, she was quick to throw herself down on the couch. She had already changed into a blue nightgown and was prepared to spend the rest of the day doing nothing. Zoey and Rumi were on the other side of the room, chatting about something.

As she sank into the cushions, it wouldn’t be long before her eyes were closing, and she was drifting off to sleep. The peaceful sleep didn’t last long at all, though, because Mira found herself dreaming again. She was in the middle of the crowd again, and the grinning faces were moving in. Zoey and Rumi were nowhere to be seen.

Hands reach out and grab her, and it seems they were trying to pull her apart as they yank at her. She starts to scream. When she woke up, she nearly fell off the couch.

“Mira!” Zoey and Rumi cry out at the same time as they run to her.

“I’m okay,” says Mira. “Just another dream with the audience trying to kill me.”

Her girlfriends each sat down next to her. Zoey grabs one arm while Rumi takes the other. Trying to provide comfort, they ran their hands along her bare skin. “This has got to mean something. Maybe demons are infecting your dreams,” says Rumi.

Mira shakes her head. “No, I’m sure it’s not that.”

“Then what could it be?” asks Zoey.

Mira takes a deep breath. “You know, maybe I'm just really afraid to fuck up. That the crowd might turn against me.”

“That won’t happen,” assures Rumi, then she gives Mira a kiss on the cheek. “I mean, we wouldn’t let the crowd turn against you.”

“Exactly!” Zoey kisses her other cheek.

“Well, you two can always make me feel better...” Mira starts to smile.

Rumi and Zoey look at one another and exchange a smile. Apparently, they had something in mind.

“We can definitely make you feel better,” says Rumi. “You just need some pampering.”

“Hmmm, maybe,” says Mira.

Just then, Zoey pulls out a hair tie. She grabs a handful of Mira’s hair and starts to pull it up into a messy bun. It took her a while to maneuver the long mane.

“And there we go,” says Zoey, after taking a long look at Mira.

Rumi then takes her by the hand. “Now we head to the bed.”

“Um, I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep,” Mira tells them as she’s pulled towards their large bed.

“What you need is a nice massage,” explains Rumi. “For relaxation.”

Well, it had been a while since Mira had gotten a massage. She wasn’t sure if it would help with dreams, but she could still enjoy receiving one. So, once she was next to the bed, she slips out of the nightgown and flops down onto the silk sheets face down in just her underwear. “Alright, ladies, do your best,” she says playfully.

Rumi grabs some body oil, then hops into the bed with her. Soon, Mira feels the warm oil being poured onto her bare skin. It smells like lavender.

“I’ll get her back. You get her legs, Zoey,” says Rumi.

“Will do!”

Mira feels their hands gliding along her body. They apply just the right pressure as they massage her. Rumi works on her lower back while Zoey’s hands are kneading her thighs. The lavender scent also has a relaxing effect on her, and Mira feels like she’s melting into the silk sheets.

“Mmmmm, you girls are the best,” Mira says with a hazy smile on her face.

They continue to work their hands, and Mira eventually feels her eyes start to close again.

“She’s getting sleepy,” Rumi whispers to Zoey.

“I’m still—” but Mira doesn’t bother to finish what she’s saying, because she feels herself drifting off into a deep sleep…

**

Yet again, Mira finds herself in a dream. This time she’s in the middle of the crowd on a small, round platform. The crowd is silent with their usual grins stretched across their face.

Not again...

She looks around, but she can’t see Zoey or Rumi anywhere. Please just wake me up—Before Mira can finish her thought, a hand from the crowd reaches up and pulls her down from the platform.

Once she’s in the hands of the audience, their eyes glow red, and they start pulling and tearing at her. And they’re laughing at her.

Mira closes her eyes. She needs to wake up, but for some reason, she can't. Just wake up...just wake up...

She's about to give up, but then she hears, “There she is!” It’s Rumi’s voice.  She looks up and sees her girlfriends jumping into the crowd. Rumi has her sword, and Zoey has her knives.

They start hacking and slashing through the crowd like nothing as Mira looks on. This was the first time this had happened in one of her dreams.

It seemed like Rumi and Zoey had managed to take out half of the audience by the time they got to her. They each grabbed one of her arms and helped her up from the ground. Unlike her previous dreams, this feels like the real Zoey and Rumi.

Instead of saying anything, they each plant a kiss on her cheek, and she starts smiling...

**

Mira wakes up in bed underneath the blanket, with Rumi and Zoey looking down at her.

“Did you have the dream again?” Zoey asks quickly.

“Was it still bad?” Rumi chimes in.

“I did, but you two, like, saved me, somehow.”

“Yay!” Zoey moves next to Mira’s left side and hugs her tight. Rumi joins in on her right side and also embraces her.

Mira turns her head to the side to kiss Zoey on the lips, then turns to Rumi to kiss her as well. She felt loved and had a feeling she wouldn’t be having the dream anymore.
