Work Text:
Days seem like they’ll never end…
Hunter had worked tirelessly to be worthy of his full Golden Guard uniform once again. Now he had to work harder than ever before to continue to stay worthy of it. He knew consequences would be dire if Belos deemed in unworthy again.
It was a particularly warm day today. Hunter felt like he was being taunted by the scorching sun, but he had to keep it together. Today he was going to bust down one of the illegal businesses run by a wild witch.
The actual events of the raid were like a faded watercolor blur for him. So much chaos, but more strikingly, so many haunting memories. He saw a blue vial in the shop that he once at first mistook for Titan’s blood, which made him get his hopes off. Turns out it was just some sort of dye.
He remembered how chaotic the escapade at Eclipse Lake was and how Belos responded to him getting the portal key. All that work only to be treated like that made him feel helpless, like a ship sinking in the Boiling Sea.
Once the wild witch was captured and brought to the Conformatorium, Hunter had to return to the castle to give a full report to Emperor Belos. Although Belos was pleased, he took it upon himself to assign Hunter to lead another raid that evening. This made Hunter feel like a flower uprooted from a garden. He thought he had finally finished his work for today and now he had to do it all over again?! He knew he couldn’t argue with the Emperor, so he obliged and did as he was told.
When he finally returns to the Emperor’s Castle after capturing the second wild witch, the sky was already fading to dark. Hunter enters his room, takes off his armor, and immediately collapses onto the bed from exhaustion.
Flapjack comes up to him to greet him, sounding concerned. Hunter wants to talk to his palisman, but he’s simply too tired from a long day of hard work. Luckily, Flapjack doesn’t seem to mind at all. He just tells Hunter that he wants him to get some rest.
Hunter is glad his palisman understands. He glances outside his window and sees that the moon has risen. It brings him a small sense of peace, causing his breath to slow down. He feel like he can finally sleep.
Continuing to breathe gently, Hunter gets under the bedcovers and closes his weary eyes and is soon visited by sleep with the moon rising above…
