Her gaze lingered, eyes narrowed, as he caught the glint of her stare in the darkness. Days now she'd dogged his steps. It was obvious she was watching him. She left favors, the flowers or the bites taken out of his tea cakes, but was careful to skip out of sight when he drew near. Into the crowd of the Great Hall or the sweeping staircases to the library, her dens of refuge, while his rotunda became her hunting ground.
Solas was unaccustomed to the role of prey. Rather the snarling monster of children's dreams, the role of destroyer was more often his, a predator that struck from the shadow. In yet another way, Lavellan left him off guard, uneasy with the reversal of power.
