Sick days on board

Summary:

Today started out perfectly fine. The sun was shining, the relation ship was looking as beautiful as ever and no one was actively hunting them down. But there was something wrong, it was silent.

Too silent.

Usually Joel was getting worked up over something or other and then coming back to etho to complain. So for it to be completely silent at this hour was unusual.

Work Text:

Today started out perfectly fine. The sun was shining, the relation ship was looking as beautiful as ever and no one was actively hunting them down. But there was something wrong, it was silent.

Too silent.

Usually Joel was getting worked up over something or other and then coming back to etho to complain. So for it to be completely silent at this hour was unusual.

Speaking of unusual, etho hadn't even seen Joel leave ships cabin. He'd at least be at the deck by now, the galley if he had woken up slightly late. But for him to have not left the cabin set off slight alarm bells in ethos mind. It didn't help that the two shared pain, meaning etho is also feeling much more sluggish than he usually would.

Etho never gets ill, the mask he always wears makes sure of that, so he can't remember how awful being ill is, even having a small cold. So the fact that ethos even feeling slightly off is making him extremely nervous. How are you supposed to survive a death game if your not at your fullest?

Etho knocks on the cabin door, earning a groan in response.

"Joel?"

Etho slowly opened the door, Joel hissing slightly at the offending light. He was a mess, to put it lightly. Deathly pale with a red flush, sniffling every other second.

"Close the bloomin' door."

His voice wasn't doing him any favours either, coming out as a pained croak instead of his usual voice. Etho obliged, shutting the door behind him.

"You feeling okay? I feel awful."

"You think you feel awful! Imagine having it!"

That exclamation brought Joel into a coughing fit. Etho looked on in concern, his own throat burning as Joel practically hacked up his lungs.

"I'll let you rest. Can't go killing like this."

"You're so kind."

Joel rolled his eyes as etho opened the door again to leave.

After about twenty minutes of just waiting around etho got bored, so he decided to do something. He got a bag and started walking in no direction in particular, stopping to pick certain herbs he found along the way. On his adventures he found himself at the Ranch. They had bees, didn't they?

He walked in and was immediately greeted by Jimmy, the avian paused seeing etho enter.

"Hello?"

"Jimmy! You dont happen to have bees, do you?"

Jimmy stared at etho, as if analysing. Could you make traps using bees? Tango was currently in the deep dark so he couldn't ask him. After careful consideration, Jimmy decided it was okay.

"Yeah, we've got some. Why?"

"I need some honey."

"Oh! Okay. Let me grab some."

Jimmy disappeared inside the farmhouse for a while before emerging with a bottle of honey.

"Is this enough?"

"Perfect, thank you."

He waved bye as he walked away from the Ranch and back to the relation ship. The sun was in the middle of the sky by the time etho returned. He went to the ships galley and boiled water in the kettle. Once it was boiled he crushed the herbs he had collected and put them in the strainer before putting it in the tea to brew. It was a simple Jasmine and hibiscus tea. A recipe that etho particularly enjoyed.

Once it brewed etho poured some of the honey into it, mixing it thoroughly.

He then carried it up to the cabin, carefully sliding into the room. Joel was buried under the blankets so etho placed the tea down on the bedside table.

"Thanks."

"Drink up, I can't have my boat boy feeling ill before something fun happens."

"That'd be a shame."
