Work Text:
Listening to James was a good idea most of the time.
"Come on, love. I think she'll be right up there!" His newlywed husband said, pointing up a hill.
Okay, that's why he said mostly.
Regulus should've insisted on going, oh I dunno, somewhere normal?
They could've gone to Paris or New York. Maybe somewhere in Scotland. You know, normal places.
Even if not French or English speaking, James was Latino. Spain would've been perfect.
"I see something, I think we're near!" James said taking his hand in a tighter grip, his warm fingers intertwining and sharing his excite t through the touch.
Regulus sighed but followed.
He's heard of worse honeymoons.
Remus and Sirius got scammed into sleeping outside somewhere in Portugal near the sea.
They'd be fine.
So basically, Regulus repeated to himself after seeing the 'close' was actually not close (typical James).
Basically, they got married.
Gay marriage was legal and they invited their- actually James' whole family, Sirius, Pandora, Evan and Barty, Lily and Mary and friends of friend and even more people James knew until they had a proper wedding feast.
Book wedding is over, honeymoon time.
That's when the weird part comes.
After sending out handwritten invites to everyone (Sirius would never write again) they got a pretty letter from a far away aunt that invited them to her island for a honeymoon.
Weird enough, but the pictures seemed nice and there's were pressed flowers on the invite.
And James seemed actually ectatic, eager to see more of the world and meet more of his family.
So Regulus relented. He wondered if anyone ever would deny James when he made stary eyes and grinned so incredibly lovingly.
So they apparated to the island.
And the next problem came up.
No people.
It's not like it was a problem but Regulus would've guessed the aunt would be there somewhere.
And so they started exploring, what did they have to lose.
That's when they went up the hill.
James insisted his intuition was incredible, yes, without a doubt she'd be right up there.
But as they walked, the way started getting longer, and longer.
At least the view was nice.
And their surrounding, too.
There were a lot of flowers everywhere due to it being just early May.
The sun was actually bearable as well, just warming them.
And James was grinning, even after walking for what seemed like a while.
He kept pointing at pretty flowers, especially if they were red and gorgeous.
So they walked.
And walked.
And talked.
And wal-
"Look! I told you!" James said as they were nearing a stand.
They were nearly at the top and if Regulus looked down he'd probably either find out he had a fear of heights or be amazed by the incredible blue sea.
He didn't want to take the chances, so they walked towards the stand.
It looked like any marketplace that was somehow attached to wheels.
Well, from its shape, at least.
There was a counter that looked as if it was made out of dried leaves and somehow someone managed to braid them.
But the leaves were ranging from red to green to orange, as if the whole of autumn was captured.
The sides were decorated by different colourful flowers, and the top were two huge pink roses that were probably half the size of Regulus.
And he wasn't that small.
He was very average.
The front was also plants weaved into a colourful banner that read CVET in curly yellow wines.
Regulus looked over to James just to see his husband gaping.
Regulus smiled and kissed his cheek, making him look at him.
"Wanna look?" He asked, he knew he wanted to, but that didn't mean he'd let anything get in the way of his husband's eyes shining at him with excitement again.
James immediately nodded and kissed him shortly before pulling him there.
It looked beautiful, magical even.
Maybe it was a better idea than some niggle tourist place.
His smile faded a little as he saw that no one was there and he saw the same expression when he looked to his left.
James was just about to say something when a pink cloud of smoke appeared behind the stand to reveal a..an elf?
Maybe she was a goblin? He probably should've learned more about mystical creatures than to get As and forget.
But before he could ask James, James would know of course, his husband leaned closer to his ear and whispered "Elf-Goblin,"
Ah, maybe he didn't need to pay more attention.
"Merci," he whispers back but she seemed to hear him looking him straight in the eyes.
Then she walked to the side and came up closer to them.
She was tanned but less tan than James.
She had a brownish greenish hue showing off a bit of her goblin like beauty.
The next think Regulus noticed was that she was big.
Again he was a very average size(!) but she was around twice of not thrice the size of him and she was at least two heads bigger than him.
He looked up and saw her two teeth showing from the bottom of her mouth peaking out even with a closed mouth.
Her hair was partly braided and partly up in a - or rather few messy buns, and all of it was adorned with flowers of all kinds.
Her ears were going downwards like a turned around elf, and she had a yellowish skirt with a cut on the side showing off her tattoos that were lighter colour than her usual skin.
She looked like she came straight from a whimsical beach.
"Eh bien, bonjour voyageur," she hummed with a voice that reminded him of swaying leaves of a voice could sound like that. (Well, hello traveler)
Poor James looked at him confused.
"She greets us," he whispers, squeezing his hand.
But she frowned. "il ne parle pas français?" (He doesn't speak French?" She asks and Regulus shakes his head. She then switches. "ele parece português" (he seems Portuguese) but James shook his head. "Latino."
"Ah, ¿español entonces? Ah, vale, mi nombre es-" (Oh, Spanish then? Ah, alright my name's-)
"Espera, no entiende español." (Wait, he doesn't understand Spanish)
That made her huff annoyed and shift from one leg to another making her look more sassy.
"¿Qué idioma hablan ambos?" (What language do you both speak?)
"inglés," "Anglais," they both say at the same time and then laugh.
She smiles but then sighs,"How boring, hmpf. My name is Cvet," she says, and as she does a thick accent is audible that Regulus hasn't heard before.
"I'm James, this is my fian- husband, Regulus," his husband says proudly and Regulus can't stop his smile.
"Husbands huh, let me guess, Honeymoon?"
"Yes how'd you-"
"It's quite obvious, isn't it? The affection, the handholding. I can feel your love from here," she explained, slowly walking back to her stand. But as she walked back she seemed to shrink just slightly below Regulus height so maybe 1,60 m? Then she hit her first onto it twice and a lot of different jewellery pieces.
Regulus didn't even have time to flush at her implication before he was amazed again. He swallowed and took a breath, getting himself together.
It was quite obvious she just wanted to sell something so he was just ready to tell her before James was already asking something.
"What is this?" He said, pointing to a mysterious box that was glowing red and green with a weird shimer.
"Oh this? My special...para maridos (husbands)"
"James- I don't think we need-"
"But we want to have a souvenir from our honeymoon. Wouldn't that be so cute. I know you wanted to Spain-"
He looks troubled. "What's in there," he asks.
But she smiled and makes a sign with her hand as if locking her lips. "Cannot tell. You must buy it to know," she purrs, but her voice was getting warmer and more and more under his skin. He felt like he wanted that box.
"Sold! James said giving her money. It wasn't groundbreaking, especially not for both of them as they both inherited a lifetime of fortune, but the elf-gremlin didn't question it just smiling and counting it. "Can I inspire you to buy something else? I've got lovely crystals," she said showing off her carved crystal (which Regulus didn't know existed).
And before he knew it, James had already bought two matching animals out of rose quartz.
"James!"
"Don't scold him," she interrupts,"he's very loving, you're gonna have a good life together."
And Regulus softened.
He knew that.
He never thought he'd get married.
He probably never would've.
But then came James and turned all he thought was sure upside down.
Merlin, he really needed to be less sappy.
"Wanna open it together?" James asks him grinning and looking at the locked box. Regulus nodded and put his hand on top of James' to open it at the same time.
They heard a faint thanks and looked up toa smiling Cvet suddenly in a Police officer uniform putting on a police badge. A laugh escaped her before the box was opened and the whole stand with Cvet disappeared.
Instead, the box spew out flower confetti and inside was a postcard of Cvet grinning with a shining sea in the background.
But worse was the text. 'Thanks for paying for my holiday, enjoy your marriage! - witch cvet on a journey to learn every language,'
and the stamp saying 'Stammped by Cvet, official post office'
the postcard ended with a
LOVE, Cvet, Head and only worker of the police department, post department, sienece and education department aswell as the president, only member of the House of Lords and House of Commons, Headjudge, Lawyer, Headmedic, Nurse, pharmacist, market seller, Jewelery maker and Foodchain FLORES' Waitress, Manager and cook
They both read it and looked at the box that had turned an usual brown, inside were just flower petals and the post card.
They both burst out laughing.
They hadn't expected this, but he guessed there was a reason for it not to be opened.
At least she could now practise more languages?
"I think we got scammed," James says before kissing his hair.
"I think so too," he says still looking at the postcard.
Then there was a noice and they both looked up to see a middle aged women walking towards them. "Jamie? Ahh and Reggie. What a pleasure!"
She said now walking faster.
She was so similar to James' mother Regulus had to look twice. Then she saw the box. "Oh my, Cvet?" Then she laughs. "She always gets the newly wedded wizards. She got me too. But these-" she looked at the deer and cat necklaces made out of rose quartz, "these are just stunning."
James smiled and hugged her. "I'm Eleanor Potter by the way. Lovely to finally meet you, Euphemia told me so much about you..." She spoke to Regulus and took them with her to the other side of the isle they were supposed to go to.
There was an actual house with sea view.
And there they talked and spend the week there, actually enjoying themselves. Sometimes with Eleanor sometimes just the two of them, enjoying being away for a while.
In the first half of the week, they went to the food chain and her markets quite a few times. But then she packed and went on her East Asia tour from the money gained.
But it seemed she hadn't fully scammed them at least. Because after starting to wear their respective necklaces, they seemed to be protected from bad things or situations wherever they went.
Cvet did want to scam them.
But she also wanted them happy. Especially since she felt the unhappiness they had felt before.
