Work Text:
On the surface, Desmond's room is just like all the others. But innocuous spots on the walls open up secret compartments, and oddly coloured floorboards are handles to trapdoors containing a hidden section of piles of weapons. She takes the taser lying under the ground, and wavers, noticing the small gun next to it. Would she need something like this for her protection? In a world where her plan fails, and Wolfgang continues to target her...
Her fingers curl around the gun. She holds it in her right hand, surprisingly heavy. She couldn't aim - if someone stronger than her stole the gun, she'd be leaving herself defenceless. Straightening up, she aims the gun in front of her. When someone attacked her...if she didn't miss, what issue would there be? She would only pull the trigger, and...
She lowers the gun, staring at her right hand, heart in her throat. Eva could shoot someone. She could - she had to, in this place, where everybody hated her and-
There's a creak in the floorboards. Without thinking, Eva swings around, gun pointed at the intruder. Desmond raises his hands in the air, freezing to a halt. Her mind goes blank, blood rushing in her ears, and all she can do is stutter: "What - What are you doing in here?!"
...which is the wrong statement, because the look of fear on his face is momentarily replaced with one of confusion. "What am I - Eva, this is my dorm room!"
Right. Right, of course it's his room, yet Eva's here with a gun, with a taser at her feet. Should she just pull the trigger before he can scream for help? Can she?
"Could you put the gun down?" Desmond doesn't risk moving. He is completely still, and although his face is ashen his voice is still steady. "I don't know what my blackmail said, but we can talk about this, okay?"
Eva takes a step backwards, starting to panic. If Wolfgang hears of this, she'll never live it down: Eva pointing a gun in someone's face...Eva, with a gun...from Desmond's room...
"You never told us you had guns in your room." After his little 'dorm buddy' idea, Desmond appeared willing to help the group stay safe - why was he so tight-lipped now?
"I didn't know." A hint of desperation creeps into his voice, and Eva tightens her grip on her gun in response. "I never knew the floor opened up, or the walls had these sections inside. I promise you."
Eva scoffs. Yeah, right. The first thing Eva had done is search her room top to bottom for any kind of tool she could use to escape. Either he was too lazy to look properly, which doesn't seem like something he'd do, or he wasn't being truthful. And the second option was much more likely.
"We can tell everyone. Trust me on this-"
"Trust you? And how did that work out? You've been lying to all of us!"
She has to shoot. Desmond inches closer, and she aims at his head, making him freeze in place. If she shoots him and runs, will she be fine? Will she get away far enough before people came running? But they will ask for her alibi, and Eva doesn't need more reasons for suspicion - and what if someone else is in their dorm room and sees her - and what if she misses, and she breaks Rule Two and Tozu kills her -
"Miss Tsunaka? I would highly advise you to lower your weapon."
Oh.
Eva cranes her neck behind Desmond. Wolfgang and Eloise stand - Eloise, slightly out of breath, and Wolfgang, calm and collected. Shooting her a disapproving look.
...No, Eva can't shoot someone. And if she can't shoot one person she couldn't kill three, especially when Wolfgang turns his head and Jean's head appears in the doorframe. Quietly, Eva hands the gun over to Desmond, who visibly sags in relief.
