The lights were bright and flashing. There was a theme playing in her head and it got louder and louder. She opened her eyes.
Y/N finds herself in a colorful circus tent with music blasting.
“WELCOME TO THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS! I’m your ring master, Caine”
A cartoon set of teeth and eyes frightened Y/N leading her to fall backwards and hit the ground. She hears a voice from far behind.
“Holy $%#@! Is that a new person?!”
She turns to see a cartoon jester peek from behind a huge block. She seemed to have gestured others from behind the block to follow her. Y/N looks back at the floating teeth who called himself Caine. She got up and proceeded to interrogate him.
“What’s going on?! What am I doing here? I need to leave this stupid game now!”
She begins to panic and look around frantically, till she realizes the characters have multiplied. The characters expression to Y/N arrival seem to be divided. The jester she saw earlier, a bundle of ribbons with a mask that seems to be crying, and king chess piece with a purple robe. They look at Y/N with kind and welcoming eyes.
However the rag doll, the interesting abstract collection of shapes and the tall purple rabbit are just staring. Y/N stares back. The rabbit doesn’t blink or make any movement. It seems like there’s no thought behind those huge yellow eyes that take up half his face. This makes Y/N question if he even has a mouth.
Finally someone breaks the silence.
“Why are you guys looking at her like that?”
The Jester asked nervously
The rag doll and the abstract look at the rabbit.
“Caine…what is this?” The rabbit asked in a very cold tone.
“Let’s welcome the new member of the circus! Introduce yourselves!” Caine announced completely ignoring the rabbit and the energy of the room.
The jester takes a step forward “Hi, I’m Pomni. I was the new one here until you arrived”
The ribbon character looks down, obviously shy and introduces herself too “M-My name is gangle and it’s nice to meet you”
The king chess piece follows “I’m Kinger and I-“
“She already #%@$ knows who you are!” A voice interrupts him. Y/n head snaps to whoever spoke up. There she makes eye contact with the abstract characters.
“Zooble… please this must be hard for her” the rag doll responded. Zooble crosses her arms “I just don’t understand how this is possible, Ragatha she-”
“Aah! Come on you really believe this stuff?” The rabbit finally spoke again and shoved his hands in his pockets nonchalantly. Everyone looked at him confused. “This is obviously a new AI that Caine put in to mess with us. Great job! Almost had me fooled, can’t say the same for these losers” a wide smile spreads across his face.
“I promise you AI characters,other than yours truly, will not be tolerated here in the circus!” Caine reassured. He takes Y/N by the arm. “Now if you don’t mind, I have tour to guide!”
In a blink of an eye Y/N and Caine disappear leaving the confused group behind. A rush hits Y/N body, now making her nauseous. She realizes that the scenery has changed to a very sunny valley with the circus tent behind them.
“This is the Grounds! Here you can drown yourself in the digital lake or have fun in the carnival! It’s really all up to you!” Caine exclaimed!
Y/N laughs nervously “What about leaving…?”
Caine stared, not at Y/N but beyond her. The world began to shift. Objects and structures appear and disappear repeatedly until-
“H-Hello??” Y/N’s hand waved in front of Caine to gain his attention back.
He blinked and the surroundings went back to normal
“Where was I?”
Y/N looked at him confused“I asked about leav-”
“THE VOID!” He interrupted.
That rush hit Y/N hard again but that seemed to be the least of her concerns now. The grounds and the circus tent were gone all that she saw was empty space, a void. Caine explained that nobody ventures out there and nobody knows what’s out there. After the short guide and private information about the Caine and his relationship with the moon, he finally returned Y/N back to the tent. Y/N now with more questions than answers stands in front of the group, all with mortified expressions.
“Please show our new addition to her room! Today’s adventure will start shortly” Caine announced before suddenly disappearing
Y/N took a step closer to the group, they seemed speechless. Ragatha was the first to embrace Y/N with a hug and tears in her eyes.
“Nora! I-I can’t believe you’re here!” She sobbed over her shoulder
Y/N looks up at the rest of the group
“Nora…?” Y/N stood there confused. That’s not her name…right? She can’t seem to remember her name. Ragatha steps back.
“Nora?” She stares at Y/N, waiting for a response. Then she take a deep breath. “You don’t remember us, do you?”
“Of course she doesn’t” Jax scoffs “It’s not her”
“We don’t know that!” Zooble chimes in.
“Oh yeah? Well let’s find out shall we” Jax says with a wide smile. He walks towards Y/N “Do you know any of us? Anyone here look familiar to you?”
“Jax that’s not going to help-”
“Shut up, let her speak.” He turns his head back to Y/N. His smile grows. “Go on”
Y/N stares into his eyes and glance over at the rest of the characters. Surely someone would remember an interesting group like this. It’s not really something someone forgets.
“N-no” Y/N response, her head hung low.
Jax smile falters, but only for a second. It’s like he couldn’t hold it up any longer more. He turns around, facing everyone else.
“I told you! She must have the same avatar that the REAL Nora had” Jax exclaimed causally as he walked away from everyone.
Ragatha looks back at Zooble “I hate to say this Ragatha but he could be right”. Ragatha sighs and forces a weak smile.
“Let me show you your room Nora- sorry I-I didn’t mean-!” Ragatha begins to stutter.
“Is there anything you want us to call you?” Pomni saves Ragatha
Y/N sighs and takes a while to respond “Y/N is good, if that’s alright”
Ragatha smiles softly “of course”
