Work Text:
Vivian’s spent the last three days wondering to himself when did ‘find your true love in a month’ turn into ‘do an honestly absurd amount of extra work’.
As if staying at the office long after his clock out hours wasn’t bad enough, he’s stuck here with him.
Couldn’t Vivian just live out his little Secretary Kim daydreams without his boss being such a pain in the ass?
But noooo, instead of getting to peacefully ignore the paperwork mounting on his desk, Vivian has to deal with fucking Lee Likhit walking around like he owns the whole damn place.
Which, well…
But that’s not important!
Vivian couldn’t care less about how rich, or tall, or handsome Lee is.
And he definitely doesn’t care about those brown eyes that seem able to see right through his soul, staring at Vivian’s every move as if urging him to work harder for what he wants.
Like it’s not his fault that the wizard has no time to search for his supposed true love!
If he gets turned into a rabbit by the end of the month, Vivian swears he’ll spend the rest of his bunny years blaming Lee for it.
Deep breaths, he tells himself, knuckles palling as his grip on the tiny kitchen’s counter grows in strength. Don’t throw all this precious hot coffee at his face.
The guinea pig happily resting next to the sink doesn’t say a thing, though Vivian’s sure that if his mentor had any time left today to talk to him, they’d probably have some choice words about all the times Vivian’s babbled about Lee’s stupidly good-looking face.
Careful as to not spill any coffee on his magically pressed pants, Vivian makes his way out of the break room, a mug clutched in each hand and mind spinning with thoughts of clients and meetings and having to spend even more time glued to Lee’s side tomorrow than he’s had to today.
How is he meant to find a soulmate to solve his turn-into-an-animal-related issues when Lee’s the only one he sees?
And does his boss really need to have such pretty eyes?!
He’s two seconds away from barging into Lee’s office and telling him some truths when something stops Vivian dead in his tracks.
The room’s eerily quiet, no paper rustling or keyboard typing, not even a faint sound of someone tapping on their phone. The silence is strangely unnerving, raising the hairs at Vivian’s nape.
Feet light over the carpeted floor, he settles the mugs down, mindful of making no noise, and takes a hold of his wand, hand already held up to spell whatever’s invaded the company.
One step into the office turns into two, then a third, gaze scouring over every square inch of the walls to find the foe that simply doesn’t exist.
Lowering his wand, Vivian sees that the cause of the silence isn’t an evil wizard or something that’s gone terribly wrong.
It’s just Lee, asleep with an arm thrown over the table, face smushed against a pile of printed spreadsheets, and his usually perfectly styled hair falling over his closed eyes.
Huh, so crazy workaholics do run out of energy at some point.
Vivan isn’t sure how to name the pang in his chest at the sight and decides to chalk it up to a mix of too much caffeine and the unfamiliarity of seeing his boss look so... So...
Vulnerable? his brain supplies, but that’s not quite it. Serene? No, not that either. Sweet, maybe?
Human, he settles on, feeling the beginnings of a smile twist his lips and shutting that down immediately. Vivian doesn’t smile at Lee; Vivian has no motives to smile because of Lee.
But it’s easier to yell at himself to just stop smiling, damn it! than to actually hold back the grin that lifts his cheeks, heart skipping more beats than it’s probably healthy for it to do.
There’s a tingly sensation in his fingertips, something that doesn’t feel like the magic he’s been a bearer of all his life – something that tells Vivian he should definitely brush the stray hairs out of Lee’s forehead for no reason at all.
Briefly, he wonders to himself what it’d be like to pat Lee’s head as if the man were an overgrown cat who just doesn’t know how to ask for affection.
Like this, with his guard down and his hypnotizing eyes closed, Lee’s almost soft and too entirely human for Vivian to not be fascinated with discovering a previously unseen side of him, a side that lets go of his CEO persona and merely exists, breathing delicately over important documents he’ll probably make someone print again tomorrow.
Yet, that’s tomorrow – tonight, he’s dreaming away on his office desk, twisted in a way that’s sure to have him in pain in the morning, and Vivian can’t bring himself to look away.
So what if he feels like a fool for being captivated? So what if Aphere and Deris will look at him like he’s grown a second head if he ever tells them just how adorable he thinks Lee looks right now?
So what if he wants to keep this memory all to himself forever?
He’s never been more grateful that his mentor can’t talk to him right now.
Shaking his head, Vivian lightly slaps his own cheeks in confusion. Too much coffee and too little sleep, that’s what’s gotten him having delirious thoughts about the most insufferable man he’s ever met.
Not that he’s met a lot of human men, but still – if his true love is out there, Vivian’s sure he’s nothing like Lee, thank you very much.
Vivian will know his true love at first sight, he’s certain, and then he’ll never have to worry about Lee Likhit and his brown eyes ever again.
Swinging his wand around, Vivian switches the crumpled spreadsheets with a cushion, refusing to look at Lee as he shifts at the change. If he’s not looking, then his fingertips can’t tingle, and he can’t overthink every little interaction they have.
With a push of his glasses up the bridge of his nose, Vivian gathers his things, hastily shoving everything into the little briefcase he bought days ago, when he thought he could go on ignoring the caffeine’s effects and the racing of his heart.
He doesn’t know why he looks back – why should he even care about Lee when the man’s done nothing but get on his nerves from the second they met?
But Vivian looks back anyway, the sigh that escapes him like a weight on his shoulders.
“Goodnight, Khun Lee,” he whispers, brow furrowing at his own actions. What’s this goodnight thing all about?
With a flick of his hand, the lights go off, and Vivian walks away with more questions than he had clocking into work this morning.
