The smell’s strong enough to make his eyes water. Ben hides his face in the crook of his elbow. “Nathan, how long has this been here?”
“Hard to say.” Nathan steps through the wall from the kitchen and takes in the mutilated deer corpse. “It wasn’t here when I went for my evening walk, but that leaves the whole night open for deer felling.”
Esther’s kneeling by the other side of the deer. “Doesn’t look like it was dragged here. And these claw marks are deep. Deeper than Abaddon can make with his clipped nails…”
