Summary
“Claremont-Diaz,” Henry’s voice comes out as a broken sob, fingers clutching what’s certainly a cracked rib. His gun remains outstretched toward the familiar rugged cowboy in front of him, his thumb grazing the hammer as he limps forward a step.
Alex spits on the ground from where he stands a few feet away, wiping the back of his hand on his busted lip. Blood smears across the hollow of his cheek. He’s mirroring Henry’s pose, gun outstretched and pointed right at Henry’s head from a few feet away.
“You actually goin’ to tell me this time, sweetheart?” He winks, Henry noticing it even under the shadow of the Stetson atop his head. Alex’s subsequent grin is spectacular and devastating. Henry’s poor fucking heart might leap right out of his rasping throat.
Henry winces and cocks the hammer.
Henry Fox is free for the first time in his life.
Alex Claremont-Diaz is still the cowboy pointing a gun at his head.
