Will thought it felt weirdly calming to be sat in the bath with his best friend behind him, relaxing in the warm water as he let James rub his sweetly-scented shampoo into his hair. He still felt a bit out of it from getting absolutely pounded into the mattress, but now he thought he could fall asleep in James' arms. They sat in a comfortable silence, James happily cleaning up after them both as he hummed a gentle tune. Will couldn't recognize it, not that it mattered. It was nice to have a moment where neither of them were making jokes, yelling at each other, or working around schedules.
The cracked door of the bathroom was slowly pushed wide open by Otto and he trotted inside—the bastard hated closed doors as Will found out earlier when he tried scratching at James' bedroom door. Will watched the little guy jump up onto the edge of the bathtub, leaning away from James with his arms reaching out to make sure Otto didn't fall in, "Careful, careful-" Will murmured to the cat before seeing that he had his balance, smiling when he went to sniff at a soap bottle.
James was filling up a cup with the bath water to help rinse all the bubbles off Will, gently tilting his head back so the shampoo didn't get in his eyes. Will met James' gaze when he looked up, smiling at the taller man and receiving a confused grin back, "What?" James questioned with an awkward laugh.
Will's heart skipped at James' laugh and he felt his cheeks heat up, quickly shaking his head and looking away so he didn't end up staring, "Nothin'.." he mumbled.
Otto had suddenly knocked a toothpaste bottle off the sink and rapidly jumped down with it, kicking the thing around the floor now—Will had jumped at the unexpected sound. He heard James sigh at the cat's antics before feeling his strong arms snaking around his waist, gently guiding Will to lean back against his chest. Will complied and made himself comfortable, closing his eyes with a hum of satisfaction as he relished in James' embrace,
They weren't even together—no, they only ended up in each other's bed every other month—but they were definitely closer than normal friends were. While Will knew they were both far too busy right now to be in a proper relationship, it didn't stop him from wondering if this is what an everyday life with James would feel like. He imagined them taking baths together regularly to relax, having sex not just because they were pent up but because they wanted to, finding a flat they both liked together so that neither had to worry about taking a train—Will hoped that this was something he could have with James in the near future.
