Work Text:
Faith laid in her hospital bed, she was a bit bored and watched the line on the heart monitor,up and down, up and down frequent in frequency.
Her uncle was asleep in the chair near the door, and Shawn was gone getting them some snacks, and probably cry, as she knew he often did, when he thought she couldn't see.
It hurt her a little bit every single time, but she knew that she had to be strong for them just like Luci was for her. Always there, steady and strong. It was hard sometimes, but she had to. Seeing them sad hurt her more. It made the bad result of what could happen so much real.
Faith wasn't ready, she never was, her mother was not and so was she. It was too soon. She still had so much to do!
Get Shawn to finally start the band, graduate high-school, grow up, be an adult, grow old together, see the world.
Even her mom had more time, Faith always thought that was the minimum age she would last, that she would be able to outlive her mom. Make her proud like that, make her happy, she would be heartbroken if she was still alive.
A phone rang disturbing the silence in the room and she watched her uncle wake up and grab his phone from his bag and leave the room, keeping her eyes half-closed and and head turned away so he wouldn't notice that she was awake. She listened to his muffled voice and steps walk further and further away, before being left in silence again.

Shawn made his way back to Faith’s room with a few of the granola and chocolate bars he knew she favoured. He opened the door and slipped inside quietly, careful not to wake her uncle only to find that he wasn't in the room.
“He got a call,” Shawn jumped at her voice expecting her to be asleep.”Oh that's fine then.”he replied and made his way to her bed and sat on the side, he also placed the bars on the small rickety side table.
“Shawn” she whispered and he turned to face her, suddenly she looked smaller, and sadder her eyes were not as bright as he was used to and she didn't seem to hold any of the confidence that usually trailed her like a shadow or Luci.
“Faith?” he answered worriedly and caressed her cheek with the back of his hand, she leaned into the touch and met his eyes as she asked him the hardest, most heartbreaking and difficult question of his life.
“Is there hope for me?” He was frozen and speechless for a few moments until he hugged her and lay down beside her in the bed.
"Of course there is,” he whispered back. “You know what the doctors said, people don't die during this surgery, you'll be okay”
“Thats not what I meant but you know there's a risk.”
“Dont think about it, you're young and healthy, you'll be fine”
“I can't promise it, Shawn.”
“I know.” he whispered back.
He spent the rest of the day with her, comforting and hugging her until they fell asleep.
Once they woke up all signs of fear were gone from Faith and she was her usual confident, cheerful self. As they played games, drew, listened to music and watched movies together.
Until the day came.
As Faith was falling asleep under the drugs as doctors around her were getting ready for surgery, she registered Luci walking around and staring at her intensely.
She wanted to thank her, thank mom, for finding Shawn and happiness before the tumor as well as thank her for everything else.
