Chapter Text

Purgatory

It was hard to believe it’s been nearly a thousand years since their marriage.

Alastor scrolled through the records on the screen, skimming over the events that had happened since that day, many bringing a smile to his face, while others earned a brief roll of his eyes.

One of the first things that had happened was one they should have seen coming. Since Lucifer had redeemed, he could no longer represent the Sin of Pride, so a new one had manifested shortly after their wedding.

‘Settling in’ pains had been an understatement! That bitch had ‘Karen’ written all over her and was insufferable for a while before Lucifer, along with the rest of the Sins, managed to ‘tame’ her a bit...for the sake of everyone’s sanity. It was largely because of her that he and Lucifer ended up moving to Purgatory on a more permanent basis: their original plan had been for a fifty-fifty type arrangement, but her constant wanting to ‘talk to the manager (King)’….

Anyone that cared for their sanity would nope right out of that!

On a more positive note, the new Hell currency (the substance used to create it they finally decided to call ‘repentium’) actually had staying power, despite a large chunk of the ‘grey’ sinners moving to Purgatory. However this did have the side-effect of the Pride ring becoming more dangerous, the lack of greys off setting the what balance there had been. Terf wars became more violent and long lasting: more than once Lucifer and Alastor had to step in to end things before large chunks of the city became new ‘doomsday districts’. Thankfully, things eventually evened out again...especially once Alastor started devouring the more violent unrepentantable sinners.

That included a number of Underlords they had been wanting to take out. Lute’s military experience proved quite useful in the conflicts with said Underlords. She became a minor Overlord in partnership with Zestial and Carmillia, the trio overseeing the security and stability of the Pride Ring. Carmillia, Alastor could tell, was working on redemption along with her daughters and he felt it was only a matter of time before she succeeded. Whether or not she would actually go to Heaven, or chose to stay to continue aiding in the protection and security of both Hell and Purgatory remained to be seen. He had a feeling Lute would follow a similar path as her.

Speaking redemption, Anthony (whom had dropped the stage name of ‘Angel Dust’ long ago) was the first of the original crew to redeem and he chose to become a Redeemer. Husk followed suit, both in redemption and becoming a Redeemer: they were Redeemers that focused on Lust and Sloth, respectively. Cherri Bomb took a bit longer, but she too redeemed, but she chose to go to Heaven to be with Sir Pentious and she was followed shortly there after by the kids

Said kids were quickly snapped up by his mother and father, whom had joined forces with another more parental winners to become parents for the winner children. Alastor still wasn’t sure what to make of having so many ‘brothers and sisters’ now.

Vox also eventually redeemed and opted to become a Redeemer himself with his focus on the sin of Greed, much to Alastor’s delight. His friend and Siren, after a long courtship, ended up marrying as well: Alastor served as his Best Man for their wedding.

Charlie and Vaggie also married and poor Lucifer could barely keep himself from crying as he walked Charlie down the aisle. He couldn’t keep the tears in once they exchanged rings, the rings that were once his and Lilith’s which he had given to Charlie long ago for this reason.

All and all, it had been a very good time and it was only going to get better if what they had planned next worked….

“Hey, love,” Lucifer’s voice purred from behind, as if he could read his thoughts. Alastor hummed and looked up at his husband. He then felt Lucifer’s hands slide down his shoulders and onto his chest before they light clasped just below his collar bone. “It’s ready.”

Alastor felt his heart rate speed up in both excitement and a bit of anxiety. It was something they had been discussing for a while now, almost a decade, really. He still had some reservations about it, both the process and what came after, but Lucifer had assured him, multiple times, that it would be fine, that he would be fine.

He flicked the screen off and rose to his feet, before following Lucifer through an already summoned portal. They emerged into a bare white room, with a ritual circle in the center. Inscribed around the ring of the circle were a mix of Enochian and abysmal runes. He could only understand the Enochian ones, but it was enough for him to confirm the circle purpose.

Alastor looked at Lucifer, whom nodded and they both stripped down to complete nudity, not even keeping their wedding rings on, before stepping into the circle. Not for this. They can’t take the chance of anything disrupting the process.

~You remember how it works for the simpler stuff, right?~ Lucifer asked mentally. There was really no point in speaking telepathically here, but Alastor assumed Lucifer was doing so to not break the silence of the room. A silence that felt...sacred.

~I do,~ Alastor confirmed. Lucifer had taught him how to create things early on in their marriage, how to create new life. He could only create small life forms on his own and it had taken a few attempts to get it right. Alastor was still quite proud of the fluffy flying spider...thing...he made, though Vaggie had hated it, especially when it preferred to try to sleep in her hair.

~Father said it’s the same principle...only we are using our own blood as the base,~ Lucifer informed him, Alastor catching a hint of anxiety in his tone. ~Father also said He would be keeping watch, just in case….~

Alastor nodded, expanding his senses out just a bit to catch Father’s presence in the room with them. He could have sworn he felt Father ‘wave’ to him in greeting before he pulled his awareness back. Even after nearly a thousand years, being able extend his awareness beyond his own body to perceive things still felt...odd.

Lucifer had manifested his wings and Alastor followed suit, the two of them floating into the air as they both started to glow with angelic radiance. The practiced chant came to him easily as they both pricked their fingers, producing a single drop of blood on each. Both drops then flowed to the center and combined and started to glow.

Alastor just focused on the chant, the intent, at that point, just as he was taught. To allow any stray thoughts in now would ruin it and they would have to start again. Considering what they were attempting…

No. Focus. He let the magic of creation flow from him and combine with Lucifer’s. Molding, shaping, growing into what they desired. It felt like an eternity, but it only lasted a few moments before the flow of magic stopped and they both returned to the floor.

He had closed his eyes at one point during the ritual and now he was afraid to open them.

Until he heard a soft, curious cooing.

Alastor snapped his eyes opened and took a sharp intake of breath in both disbelief and wonder.

Floating between them on four little, white wings was a baby. Skin was white as Lucifer’s but had milk-chocolate colored points on their arms and legs, nails and hooves a very pale pink. Hair was light brunette with strawberry blond tips, the two little deer ears had the same coloration, as did their cute little deer tail. The little one’s eyes were white with red irises and their cheeks had Lucifer’s signature rosy marks.

“Al…,” Lucifer was saying with reverence as he cradled the little one into his arms, tears in his eyes. “We did it.”

Alastor stood frozen for a moment, still in a bit of shock, before stepping forward and carefully embracing his husband and new child, tears starting to form in his own eyes they pressed their foreheads together.

“Yes, we did…,” Alastor said softly as their wings wrapped around each other, the little one watching with wide eyes before starting to tug on his chest fur, causing him to chuckle with amusement. For several moments they just stayed like this, not wanting to spoil the moment with words and just watched as the little one took in their new surrounding and absorbed their warmth and love.

“You know Ma and Lilith are going to claim we ‘cheated’,” Alastor said teasingly after a moment.

“Pfft…their fault…,” Lucifer snorted with a roll of his eyes, Alastor chuckling.

They did indeed consider the more...human (and arguably the more fun) way first. However, once Lilith got wind of their plan she ‘playfully’ reminded Lucifer of what she went through while she was pregnant with Charlie. Then Alastor’s own mother started chiming in with her own ‘fun’ stories…

...needless to say, any desire to create a baby the human way went right out the window.

Perhaps in the future, once this one was old enough….

First though, they needed to tell everyone know of their success.

After dressing themselves, they returned to their home in Purgatory, to hear the echos of the Bells of Heaven ringing.

Father was rejoicing in their success, the arrival of their child.

Whom they would name Elpis Morningstar.

Chapter Text

Alastor 

The main reason I started this AU was to explore the mysteries around him, starting with why he was (implied) to be powerful when he first spawned in Hell. Things developed from there.  Unfortunately I no longer remember the thought process for much of why I went the direction I did with him (I will say him becoming a full blown angel at the end was not originally in the cards XD), but I am still quite happy with his development overall.

Akos

Originally was more heavily based on Demonakos, both in appearance and personality.  They were literally a being that fed off of chaos and chaos formed in stable places like Heaven was the ‘tastiest’.  I still remember a scene I almost wrote where they were in Heaven, trash talking to Sera while plucking threads of chaos from the air which would turn into bite sized pieces of food and then them eating it in front of her.

The original ‘purpose’ of their relationship with Alastor in this regard was for him to be an agent of chaos.  This original concept I honored in ‘Prove Your Worth’ with Demonakos’ offer to Alastor to be the same.

Buuut that quickly changed as I wrote the first fic, There for you, and they changed into the more motherly, scientifically curious individual we have now.  If you look close, you'll notice Al's description of them is slightly different in the first chap…something I kept in.

Daraz

I never did properly describe him did I?  That was partly on purpose, partly due to being undecided on what he should look like.  I was thinking of making him a crow/raven but ultimately decided to leave it to the reader's imagination.

As for his fate, I initially was going to have him be reduced to that of an imp for a thousand years or so or something similar (he would have lost his angelic status regardless), but I ultimately decided Roo offing him in a moment of impulse was more fitting.

Eve/Roo

I originally did intend for them to be the same person and not Eve being a meat puppet for Roo. However, this changed as I built up upon the dynamic between Father and Roo…and their ‘kin’ in the Beyond in general. This change also gave me the opportunity for Lucifer and Eve to have their reconciliation moment…thus Lucifer getting redeemed.

Joseph (Al’s dad)

I didn’t really think ‘too’ much about him until the ‘New Residents’, when I needed angles for Alastor to reach the kids with.  I had already decided earlier on that his biological father disappeared before he was even born, but didn’t decide on ‘why’ until that point.  The racial tensions of that time period (as unfortunate as they were) really helped inspire me on what direction to go with his fate.  A 2g French-American man who didn’t care about skin color…vs…a bitter, racist black creole man over the same woman…it was never going to end well for one of them.  Unfortunately for Al, it was Zenon (his step-father) that ‘won’.

Note: I realized that naming him ‘Joseph’ and making him a carpenter (and his mother being named Marie…which is very close to ‘Mary’) kind of hints at something…but I swear it was a coincidence!  I was just picking names that were popular from that time period!

Wait…Christ the Redeemer (Alastor the Angel of Redemption)…ah fuck…I swear I didn’t intend that!

Lilith

I honestly was stuck on what to do with her a lot of the time…and admittedly, kept forgetting about her, toward the end.  Admittedly, thinking back, she feels more like a convenient plot device than an actual character…*wince*

Lucifer

I based this version of him on the storybook tale Charlie told in S1 E1.  Namely the implications that he was a younger angel, and took the mention that he was a dreamer as his actual title.  Obviously not likely correct, but it's what I went with.

There was one epic line I wanted to give him during the ‘Cost of a Soul’ conflict that didn’t make it in. Unfortunately I can’t remember it fully now, but it was something like: *referring to a blinding spell* “You think your little light can affect me?  I am the Morningstar!”

Vox

As I alluded to in an A/N waaay back, I originally never intended for Vox to get an redemption arc.  In fact, the ‘He Needs to See’ fic was originally going to be completely different, including the title.  I don’t recall fully now, but Vox tricks Alastor into a trap and then attempts to lure Akos and trick them into making a deal with him for Alastor’s release.  He was actually smart and had himself and Al in a different location while he tricked Akos into a different location and was using a camera’s to communicate, while using suppressors to keep them from just teleporting to them.  Unbeknownst to Vox though…was that Lucifer already knew where they really were.

One bit of scene I really wish I still could have fit into ‘He Needs to See’ went (mostly) as follows.

Vox: Your soul…or I start torturing your boyfriend right in front of you!
Akos:  *blinks then starts laughing*

*behind Voxx Lucifer has already freed Alastor and were both trying not to laugh*

Vox:  What’s so funny!?
Akos:  You seem to have misinterpreted something...I am not his boyfriend…*points behind him*  He is.

*Vox turns and goes pale when he sees Lucifer there with a big ass grin on his face*

What followed after was that after a bit of a roughing up, they decide to curse Vox (well Akos does).  A curse where his dick would start burning if he even so much as thought of Alastor.  This part I did honor with Luci’s remark about ‘slowing burning his dick off’ in the final version.

In fact, it was the idea of Valentino purposely manipulating Vox’s emotions with his powers that opened up the idea of giving the TV man a redemption arc in the first place.

Vox’s relationship with Siren was more of a ‘eh, why not?’ to show Vox really had moved on from his obsession with Alastor.

Niffty

I have to confess…for ‘The Ringing of Fate’ I knew I wanted one of the Main Hazbin Crew to die and she was simply the best one for that ‘task’.  Everyone else I either already had ending plans for, or were simply too ‘dangerous’ (Charlie dies?  Whole fic plan would get upended as Lucifer (and Alastor) would go fucking nuclear).  Plus, with her father/daughter like connection to Alastor, it served as a needed push to have Alastor bite Lute in his devourer form and put Lute on her own redemption arc.

Valentino

Once I had decided on the idea redeeming Vox, I knew this asshole had to go before Vox even had a chance.  The idea that Val could manipulate Vox’s feelings toward Alastor with his powers felt logical to me so I went with it.  It certainly made Val more dangerous in that aspect…even if he is a bit of an idiot in other areas…..

Angels, Angels Everywhere!

Yeah, I went a bit crazy on creating OC angels, especially during the first half of the AU.  I mainly did so (especially in the case of Pelet and Daraz) because I wanted to avoid using the biblically known angels (Michael, Raphael, etc) since we do not know if they will show up in the show at all (Viv would not say either way: if they do though, I wonder how they would depict Michael…as he’s usually the ‘general’ of Gods army but Abel currently has that role in the show).  Pelet, in particular, was always intended to be a parallel to Michael.

Cthulhu!

No, not literally, but you’d noticed I definitely added some more…Lovecraftian elements to the series, mostly to flesh things out a bit worldbuilding wise.  Initially for the ‘abysmal’ language I just used a Cthulhu language mixer, but during ‘Wings of Redemption’ I found myself a proper R’lyehain translator to use instead, though I still had to use the language mixer for words the translator didn’t have.

I will say though, it was fun making up cosmic being names/traits for the later part of the series.  Though I admit I initially wasn’t going to go so…crazy…with them (The Observer, for instance, I never planned on making an actual appearance…then he decided to literally pop in and visit Akos in ‘Aftermath’)

As for the relationships between them all?  They don’t really have bloodlines and what not like us puny humans do, though The Observer and Father are definitely ‘bros, if you get my meaning.  Demonakos is younger than all the ones seen in the series (much to his displeasure…but this dude can be such a loose cannon at times I have to have other characters more powerful than him to keep him in check.).

Telem Paternus

Yes, it is literally meant to be a ‘Deux ex machina’ for the series.  The main purpose in the world itself is to serve as an ‘emergancy oh shit’ button so to speak when Father really needs to fix something but can’t due to His confinement (helping break Al’s deal with Roo, driving off Demonakos before the young upstart ruined everything…).  Or…sneakily enact changes in a certain Radio Demon….

Regrets?

One thing I regret atm is the almost complete glossing over of Alastor’s PTSD from the torture he suffered at Roo’s hands.  The ideas I did have (one including Vox somehow finding out about Al’s new aversion to narrow, dimly lit corridors and hounds and using it against him) just didn’t make it in with everything else going on.  I will say by the end of the series Alastor would have recovered somewhat, but things like that never fully go away.  If I ever revisit/add to this series in the future, that is something I’d like to address.

I also kind of regret going with the implication Lucifer was younger than Sera (when all modern depictions of him biblically has him being a first born angel).  He’s still more powerful than anything else in Hell, but thinking about it now it kind of diminishes him a bit. Though him being still a youngster when shit went down and he got cast into Hell does help explain his mental state a bit….

Last thing...not having Al and Luci cause more mischief while using their telepathy!
