Work Text:
Heather, after arriving home, couldn’t stop thinking about Abaddon. There was something about him that sparked her curiosity, so she decided to research a bit about his name.
What she found left her with even more questions than answers.
-
Hours later, at the hotel, Esther and Heather were working together on a project. As usual, Heather had done most of the work, while Abaddon sat nearby… completely focused on something far more important: his blenders.
—Heather remembered what she had read the night before. She looked at Esther, a mixture of excitement and confusion in her eyes.—Esther… I researched Abaddon. I found out what his name means
—Ezekiel, the little boy Abaddon had possessed, perked up immediately, curious.—I want to know too!
Abaddon didn’t react. He already knew what it was, but he had to admit he was curious about how humans depicted him.
—Esther crossed her arms.—I’m all ears, Heather.
—Heather pulled out her phone and scrolled to the text she had found.—Abaddon is an angel of judgment, known as “The Destroyer,” —she read aloud—. He was created to guard the abyss and carry out divine punishment, not out of malice, but out of duty.
—Esther leaned closer to see the screen.—So… that means Abaddon is an angel?
Abaddon looked up, his eyes blazing with contained fury. Heather and Esther froze, confused.
"Oh… so dad got you wrong? "—Ezekiel said innocently. Seeing that Abaddon didn’t respond, he added, worried—". Are you okay, Abaddon?"
—Esther glanced at him.—Hey… Abby, are you okay?
—Abaddon jumped up, pointing at them with a dramatic gesture.—I AM NOT AN ANGEL! I’m the King Cobra! I came here to cause chaos! That’s why I was born impaled! That box lies! —he shouted, pointing at the phone.—
—Esther sighed and looked at Heather with mild exasperation.—Well done, Heather.—Then she turned to Abaddon, trying to calm him.—It’s probably just wrong information. Happens all the time on the internet.
—Abaddon scowled, puffed out his chest, and nodded with exaggerated pride.—Exactly! I’m a demon! —he declared, grabbed his blender, and stormed out of the room as if he had won a great battle.—
Heather watched him leave, sighing. She was used to Esther’s ways, but not to Abaddon reacting so dramatically.
-
Later, Abaddon couldn’t stop thinking about what he had heard.
What if that box wasn’t lying?
What if he really had been an angel once?
That doubt followed him all afternoon. Determined, he decided to ask others.
—First, he went to Ben, who was busy reading.—Ben… if that box says I’m an angel… does that make me less of a demon?
—Ben looked up, raising an eyebrow, knowing Abaddon wouldn’t like the answer.—Probably taken from Wikipedia, Abby. Don’t worry about it.
Wiki… what? —Abaddon asked, confused.—
—A page where humans write stuff. Not always true.
—Ah… so I’m still terrifying?
Yes, absolutely —Ben replied with a calm smile.—
Abaddon felt a little better after hearing that.
-
Next, he went to Nathan, who was watching TV.
—Nathan… do you think I’m an angel in disguise?
—Nathan chuckled softly.—No, buddy. You’re a great demon, no doubt about it.
—Are you sure?
Sure. I know you’re a powerful demon! —Nathan tried to pat his head.—
Abaddon looked at him with pride, feeling a strange warmth in his chest.
-
—Finally, he went to Katherine, who was in the laundry room.
Abaddon approached seriously.—Katherine… do you think… I was ever an angel?
—Katherine glanced at him, knowing Abaddon very well.—You’re a demon who causes great chaos in this hotel, Abaddon. Don’t doubt what you are...So I’m completely sure that you’re a demon, not an angel.
Abaddon blinked, not fully understanding, but her words calmed him.
For the first time that day, he didn’t feel so confused.
"A great demon! A fearsome one! "—Ezekiel said proudly.—
Abaddon nodded, acknowledging the boy. He would always be a demon… though that little doubt still lingered in his mind.
