Work Text:
“Can we look at the stars daddy?”
Taro looks down to Hana, jumping up and down holding a book of what seems to be stars in… patterns? She hands him the book and he flips through it, listening to her rambles.
“There are constellations in our sky and we’re learning about them in school! They’re so cool and they have all these different stories and they’re everywhere! I wanna see them all!” Hana giggles, tugging at his pant leg.
Taro nods in understanding looking at the book, it had a lot of stories and a lot of pictures of stars, he wasn’t entirely sure if they could see any from the shop though…
“Can we?” Hana asks again, this time Taro looks at her and nods in agreement.
It would be fun and now that he thinks about it he’s never really looked at the stars too closely before, maybe he star gazed once or twice before but… if he has it’s been a while ago. When he brings up the idea with Aoi she offers to close the shop for them, and when it turns night Hana grabs a few snacks for them and they walk over to the park and look at the sky.
If he was honest he thought that Hana might get tired of it after the first few seconds but after a few fleeting seconds she’s pointing into the sky and rambling off a few of the stars causing him to smile.
“Do you see it?” She prods his arm and he nods, he doesn’t really see the shape though, it’s hard to see without the help of the book but he doesn’t mention it to Hana.
It’s weird cause now he’s feeling a strange sense of deja vu, he’s done this before, he’s definitely done this before. But with who–?
“It’s that one over there! Can’t you see it dumbass?”
“Why would I be able to see it? I can’t help the fact that you suck at pointing, Rion,”
“Nagumo, I swear to god, it’s right next to that really bright one,”
“They all look really bright,”
“...”
“I think that’s the point of stars Rion,”
Taro moves so Rion can attack Nagumo, throwing him on the ground as the two of them tussle on the roof. Honestly none of them should be out this late but it wasn’t like they had anything better to do, and besides, Rion insisted on getting some pictures for her niece. She also insisted on them coming with her and it wasn’t like they could exactly just say no to her.
“Sakamoto! Look! You see it, right?!” Rion shouts, pointing at the stars. He squints a little before seeing a certain constellation, or he thinks it is.
“Maybe?”
“You both suck at this!”
“You suck at pointing, and aiming,” Nagumo groans from the floor. Taro looks over to him, opening his mouth to say something but then shuts it. Nagumo kinda deserves this anyways now that he thinks about it.
Rion hits Nagumo again but it doesn’t knock him out.
All three of them get caught within the next five minutes, and Rion gets the pictures for her niece.
“Don’t you think they’re pretty daddy?” Hana asks.
“Yeah,” Taro mutters, they’re not the same set of constellations Rion was trying to get him and Nagumo to see, but it reminds him of it. It was the first time he’d ever been stargazing and after that he thought that it was kind of annoying and pointless.
He looks over to Hana whose eyes are sparkling at the sky. This is what Rion was giving her niece. This is what she was fighting so hard for. But that’s not it, there’s another time, there has to be.
He finds Shin in his room with a telescope, pointing it at the sky with a journal next to him. This might be the first time he’s seen the kid not wrapped up in some sort of manga now that he thinks about it. Either way though Shin looks like he’s about to fall out of the window he’s leaning so far out. He almost does, but Taro catches him, pulling his clothes back and saving the kid from a rather embarrassing fall.
“Sakamoto!” Shin shouts, turning around he glances back at the window before focussing on Taro again. “Is it late?”
“No, I was just checking on you,” he was awfully quiet and he kinda thought that something had happened–
“What’s that meant to mean?!” Shin hisses. There it is, it takes a bit for him not to smile at the kid.
“Nothing, what are you doing?” he looks at the telescope and the journal, almost instantly Shin’s face lights up as he grabs it and shoves it over to him. What did he get himself into?
“Constellations! Look at them! They’re so cool– there’s this one manga that I found that talks about a lot of them and I was trying to see if I could find any from here, so far I haven’t had much luck but I’ve found one, see?” – Shin points down to his notebook – “It’s called–”
“–Draco!” Hana smiles pointing to the constellation.
Taro nods, he’s seen that one before, he’s definitely seen that one before, it’s a little hard to see but he sees it. Little stars in the sky forming one big picture. He looks back to Hana who’s staring at him now and handing him her book of constellations.
“I like it,” He replies after a while, Hana squeals in excitement and leans on him, staring at the sky.
He looks at the sky and smiles.
It’s pretty.
