If there was anything Lanino and Elnina loved half as much as each other, it was gossiping. Well, Elnina did, anyway. Lanino would usually listen from beside her, clearly infatuated with her voice ("beautiful") and face ("absolutely adorable").
It was cute. They were a cute couple.
God, I fucking wish that was me, the Shadowguy thought as he sat down next to them, the couple nuzzling noses. Elnina perked up upon seeing him.
"Good afternoon! It's a lovely, snowy day outside, isn't it?" It was always snowy, but she seemed enthusiastic regardless. The Shadowguy shot back a thumbs-up. "And your hair looks lovely today!"
"You know," Lanino started, leaning forward from beside Elnina. "There's a party tonight. I'm sure you've heard."
"I hear there's a dance floor, too!" Elnina sighed dreamily. "Oh, I just can't wait to dance with you, my dearest sunny moon..."
They fawned over each other briefly. It was a little awkward to watch.
She turned back to the Shadowguy. "What about you, sweet shadow? Will we see you there?"
He laughed awkwardly, pretending to ponder.
"It's a perfect place to bring a date," Lanino chimed in, eununciating the last word like he was insinuating something.
The look on his face clearly gave him away.
"Ooooh! Do you have someone in mind?"
He shook his head and covered his smile, though he was still blushing.
"Who is it? Who is it? Who is it?" the two chanted.
The Shadowguy leaned back, shyly holding up two fingers. The couple gasped.
"Two Darkners?"
"TWO DARKNERS?"
"Oh, you've GOT to tell us who it is!"
"It's that little green Pippins, isn't it? I always see you around him! You're one of the only people he talks to!"
"And that Zapper with the bandanna! I don't blame you!"
"Oh, darling, but what about Mike? They're together quite often, too!"
"I wonder if Mike's gonna be there..."
"Oh, amore, I think we're overwhelming him..."
The two turned back to the Shadowguy, who was very embarrassed. The couple watched patiently, slightly worried.
Eventually, he gave a sheepish nod. The two gasped again.
"We knew it! Oh, it's going to be lovely!"
He stood up, pretending he had somewhere important to be. The couple was sweet, but... very high energy.
"Go get 'em!"
"We believe in you!"
"Shoot your shot!"
"You'll be so cute together!"
With a quiet wave, he left the Green Room.
... Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to take them up on their suggestion.
