Chapter Text

You always thought that love was a myth, that you would never fall in love again. Having gone through a heartbreak almost six years ago, your heart had never beaten for someone else. One day you went to the hospital for a medical checkup. You sat as usual in front of your family doctor, but as you turned your head, you saw a nurse walk through the door of the next room, a girl with short shoulder-length hair, black and well-kept. The nurse fixed her cap and sat down next to the doctor. You couldn't take your eyes off the girl, you had been amazed by her beautiful hazel eyes. Even when the doctor was talking to you, it was impossible for you not to turn your eyes momentarily to see the nurse. The doctor asked you to sit on the stretcher, the girl came up to you for the checkup.

"I'm going to check your heartbeat , okay?" she said, even her voice being sweet, slightly scraped but she had a maternal tone that made you melt. "Take up your shirt, please."

Your heart beat at a thousand per hour, you listened to her and she slipped her hand underneath causing the metal in the stethoscope to press on your soft skin. You also felt several rubs of her hand against your skin, touches that were accidental but made you feel on the edge. You didn't quite know what edge it was, but you felt like you could lose control at any moment and moan by accident, for example. After she continued with your back, you could now see her face better , her side profile, and you memorized every detail, including her round nose and lips, that seemed so soft, tinged with a slightly red lipstick, probably because her boss wouldn't let her go with too much makeup. The nurse finished the auscultation and removed the stethoscope.

"Your heartbeat is normal, although your heart rate is going a bit fast," she laughed, that celestial sound made your cheeks pink and you had to do your best to hold back.

"How cute" she says in a soft tone "Don't be nervous, love"

"Mc Millin!" The doctor called the nurse to focus on her work. The girl turned a little nervously and nodded, putting one hand to her head in a sign of regret. She turned back to you and grabbed the otoscope in her hands. She delicately checked your ears, her hand softly making contact with your ear. Seconds later she moved on to the other, you could feel her gentle breathing in the faint silence of the room, only accompanied by the sound of the doctor's typing.

"And what does exactly hurts?" She asked as she looked intently at your eyes. You were slow to react as you were busy watching her precious eyes.

"My head hurts." She frowned, though not angry but rather confused.

"You always come because your head hurts. Have you hit yourself lately?" You know that you are not sick at all, so you are looking for a perfect lie. All for the sake of getting Miss Mc Millin's attention.

"The other day I hit my head against the door, but it wasn't too strong," you said, pointing to the side of your head. McMillin put her hand to her cheek in concern.

"Let me see," she gently grabbed your chin and strummed your head to check the supposed damaged part. She ran her hand through the area, stroking your hair in the process, you feel her thumb up and down. "You don't seem to have any wounds or scars. Why didn't you came to the hospital that day?" You played with the hem of your shirt, looking for a good excuse.

"I didn't think it was necessary, it was just an silly accident." She nodded and continued to take your temperature as she laid her left hand on your forehead.

"You don't have a fever either..." she muttered to herself. She then turned to share her remarks with the doctor. You sat back in the chair in front of the him. The middle aged man looked at you with a relaxed expression. "Well, it seems that nothing it's wrong with you and you are completely healthy, anyway, if your head still hurts, take a dose of paracetamol to calm the discomfort and if it still hurts and you can't stand it, come and we will take care of it" You nodded at everything, deep down you felt bad as you were lying to the doctor , he could be treating someone else but there he was, wasting his time just because you had fallen madly in love with Nurse McMillin.

"Thank you very much," you said timidly, addressing both (though more to the beautiful nurse) You left the hospital and sat on a bench, while watching people pass by, you couldn't get out of the girl's mind, her hair, her eyes, her features, her soft voice, the soft touch of her hands. You weren't going to lie to yourself, you were completely obsessed with her. There was no passive love for you, it was obsession or nothing. After nearly an hour of sitting on the bench, you saw the nurse leave her work place. She had changed her clothes, now wearing a long skirt, with a white buttoned shirt and a wool rebekat. You were alarmed to see how she was going to pass right in front of you and scared to death you hid behind a high hedge. Because of how lucky you were, the girl sat right on the bench in front of the hedge where you were hiding. You could see, through the leaves, how she would pull out her flip-phone and call someone, after a couple of tones she started talking to the phone. That's when you realized how strange this whole situation must look for an outsider, anyone might think you were spying on her. Which didn't stray far from reality, now that you were thinking about it.

"I don't know, Matt, I don't feel like going home tonight, you know I don't get along with mom and dad," the nurse snapped with a melancholy tone in her voice. That was too much, you didn't want to meddle in her private life, no, it was the last thing you wanted. You just wanted to look at her from afar and dream about her, nothing else. You took a couple of steps back but before you realize it, you tripped over the curb and fell against the cobbled road. As you raised your head, your gaze crossed with the hazel-colored eyes of Nurse McMillin, who had turned when she heard your muffled scream. Your cheeks blushed when they were caught "in fraganti" She quickly said goodbye to the person she was talking to and got up from the bench. You were blocked and not knowing how to react, you expected her to look at you with disgust, to ask you what you were doing by spying on her, why you came to the hospital every week, why you were so obsessed with her. Why were you so obsessed with her?

"Are you all right, honey?" She asked, in her usual sweet voice. Your brain short-circuited the moment she uttered the word "honey." You were only able to mumble nonsense as she continued to with that expression of concern on her face. "The face of an angel" You thought

"Are you okay? "Did you hit your head?" In the end you were able to rebuild yourself, straightened up, still dizzy from the fall, though even more disoriented by how the young woman laid her hand on your arm.

"Yes, I'm fine, my head is fine." "I was just passing by and I tripped." You tried to get up but the pain caused you to fall back to the ground. She looked at you sympathetically and helped you get up. The way she held your arm firmly and as your bodies touched, made your legs falter and you had to hold on to it for a few seconds.

"Can you hold on?" "You look dizzy" You quickly denied your head, even though you wished with all your being that you could stay much longer in her arms. "I'm fine, it's just been a silly stumble." She smiled "I'm glad you're okay, so you won't have to go to the doctor a second time in the day." You let out a nervous giggle as you looked carefully at her painted lips , this time with a deep red pigment.

"By the way , what's your name?" "It's just that, since we see each other almost every week around here, I thought it would be nice to know." "It's not because I want to adress you like informally, I just want to know," you muttered nervously. The nurse smiled warmly at you and put a hand in her rebeca's pocket.

"My name is Illian, but tell me Illi." "And, yes, you can call me by name , you don't need to use "miss" or something like that." Your heart beats a thousand times an hour.

**Illi, Illi, Illi**

"A beautiful name for an angel," you thought as you curved your lips into a shy smile. You told her your name along with your last name, maybe in a way that was too enthusiastic, you thought later. After a couple of minutes of talking, you decided to take courage and ask for her number.

"My number?" When she saw your expression of fleeting disappointment, Illi tried to justify herself. "No one had ever asked me for my number, you know? Why me , by the way?" You felt a slight self-contempt in her voice as she pulled her flip-phone out of her purse. "It's just that..." "I wanted to ask you..." Suddenly you felt a puncture in your chest, an instant cowering that made you look for any excuse not to tell her the truth. "It turns out I want to do nursing, but I don't know where to start if you could teach me." Her expression became confused, she didn't seem to believe you much, but she still let you write your number on her phone.

"When I can call you?"

"Tonight is fine, but when you can, I don't care." You looked at each other, you looked at her precious eyes for the hundredth time, and smiled at such a beautiful sight.

"Until tonight, honey." That had sounded so bad, but so good at the same time. You said goodbye with your hand and she continued on her way to the bus stop, minutes later she had already disappeared into the bus crowd. This is where you started to wonder if it was just a dream, because it was too beautiful to be true.
