A few days before the 31st
On Makinos day off she finishes up the halloween costume Luffy had asked her to make and she couldn't say no especially when the costume was this cute. Over the past week they went to the market and picked up fabrics and even found a hat and toy sword though they kept those hidden and secret from a certain captain.
Just as Makino finished sewing the last button onto the white shirt she called out, "Luffy! Come here and try your costume on! I just finished it." Little patters of small feet came running from around the corner and into Makinos room.
"ITS DONE!! ITS DONE!!" Luffy shouted with his usual obscenely large smile "Shishishishi do you think Shanks is gonna let me join his crew if I wear this now?"
Makino could only smile hearing the boy she practically raised talk about his dream and the person who gave him a dream with as much joy a seven year old could barely contain.
"We'll just have to wait and see what he thinks but i'm confident he will love this costume, how does it fit?" Luffy who now stood in front of the mirror in his costume, brown pants that cut off right below the knee, a white button down shirt that is left open, a black sleeveless cape, a red sash around his waist paired with the sword and on top of his head the straw hat they found.
"It's perfect! Thank you Makino" exclaiming with joy after hugging her which she gladly accepted "Now remember we want this as a surprise to Shanks and his crew so it's a secret alright" telling the boy. "YOSH!"
On the 30th
Tomorrow was the day of Halloween. Makino stood behind the bar looking a bit more down than usual some could pass it off as her focusing for the rush tomorrow but to others it wasn't.
"Hey Makino, noticed you've been a little down today what's goin on?" Shanks spoke to her, Beckmans voice soon followed "Are the guys being a little too loud for your liking? I can get them to shut up or go back to the Force if you would like."
Not surprised by the twos perceptiveness she had no reason to lie "Well Luffy has been talking to me about going trick or treating and carving out some pumpkins for a few weeks now but, I can't find anyone to go with him as I will be busy with this years Halloween party here." Both the men felt bad for the kid and the barmaid since it's clear they have been looking forward to this.
Shanks suddenly spoke up "How about me and Beck go with him? I think we will be fine not drinking for a day besides we just got back from a week long trip why not spend a night out with our favorite anchor" Leaning back in his chair as he finished Shanks gave both his partner and his new friend a smile that could rival Luffys. Beck silently agreeing with him on his new plans to spend Halloween.
Hearing Shanks and seeing Beckmans nod of approval, Makino smiled in joy and thanked them and gave those 2 a round on the house. If either of them noticed how she also guilted them into the fun they said nothing of it because it was for a good reason.
Back on the Red Force Shanks and Beckman how had costumes to quickly create unless they want to show up in their regular clothes. Shanks had gotten together a vampire costume while Beckman struggled.
"Maybe i'm over thinking it but nothing is looking good for mine" said man sighed defeated with clothes surrounding him.
Shanks laughed at the sight. "You are a big help you know that?" Beck smiled.
"Why don't you go as a vampire like me so we can be together even in the afterlife?" Shanks stood up announcing his idea.
"I guess I can go as a vampire hunter" Beck responded acting as if he was completely ignoring his husbands perfect suggestion.
Back at Party's Bar Makino and Luffy were getting ready for bed a bit earlier than usual so they could get all the rest and energy they could. "Sans an Eckan eally sai tey ill go ick or reatin wif me?" Luffy spoke around his toothbrush. Makino nodded and waited to finish brushing her own teeth before responding. "Yep! When they both heard you had no one to go with they both immediately said they would go with you!"
Snapping his head towards her in disbelief "Really? I thought they would be drinking at the bar"
Makino looks down at him "Why would you say that? Shanks and Beckman both care about you a lot Luffy" she asks confused as to why he would say this
"Cause gramps said that marines don't go trick or treating." Although the old man abandoned Luffy here his words still clung on to him "Well Garp isn't here anymore so who cares what he says and besides your gonna be a pirate. But before you can be a pirate you gotta go to bed cause tomorrow you're gonna conquer the town with trick or treating!" she comforts the boy "Good night Makino. I love you" "Good night Luffy I love you too."
The 31st has finally arrived Makino and Luffy are eating breakfast at one of the tables expecting some visitors. " When will they be here????" Luffy whines still sleepy and in his pajamas.
"They will be here soon don't worry, they have never missed a breakfast with us before" Makino replies while cooking "How about you help me set the table for when they get here? I'm sure they will live to hear how helpful you are!"
Just as she finished Shanks and Beckman walk in giving their greetings. "Anchor! still sleepy are ya? better not fall asleep on us tonight!" Shanks ruffles his boys hair which earns him a mumbled good morning "Too excited couldn't sleep" Luffys yawns leaning into Shanks side as he sits down next to him. "Don't worry Makino let me take care of setting the table since these two are already comfy together." Beckman motions towards the two "Ah! Thank you Beckman. Here's Luffy and Shanks's plates. I'll bring ours to the table."
After the small family eats Luffy is more awake and Makino gets ready to head out to the markets to prepare for the party. "Luffy be careful when carving the pumpkins and don't use to sharp tools when you are by yourself" She tells him sternly.
Luffy nods and runs up to get changed into a shirt and shorts. Shanks and Benn both reassure her that they will be with him and not to worry.
"SHANKS!! I'll race you to the pumpkin patch!" Luffy yells out running past them and out the door.
Shanks smiles before processing what he said and runs after him "Wait up you little brat! I'm gonna beat you there!"
At the pumpkin patch Luffy is searching for a good pumpkin with Benn as Shanks has run off on his own doing whatever.
"How about this one Anchor? It's nice, round and pretty light."
Inspecting the one Benn had lead him too Luffy sees that it's round for him to carve out a smile like his own, doesn't have any weird spots on it but sadly doesn't weigh 10x than he does and isn't 10x as big as he is. "Hmph"
Benn chuckles at his frown. "Well I beat Makino would want a giant pumpkin in front of the bar and it won't smell that good either after a while" Explaining to the pouting kid.
"Okay but when i'm king of the pirates i'm getting the largest pumpkin in the world!"
On the Red Force they all cut open the top and gut it saving the gooey stuff inside. Then they draw out their design with marker then carve it out, Luffy being watched to make sure he's being safe by both of them and letting them help.
After the pumpkins are done they bring the pumpkin seeds to Lucky so he can make a pie out of them.
"It's almost 7, How about we all meet up again at Makinos so we can go trick or treating?" Benn suggests after seeing the sun's position.
Shanks and Luffy agree to this plan as they both trust Luffy to get back to Makinos safely and so they could surprise each other with their costumes at the same time.
"Okayy! Shishishishi!! I'm excited for Shanks to see my costume!!" He runs off before said man could ask how lame it would be.
Greeting Makino as he walks in and heads towards his room, quickly grabs the clothing and accessories he needs before changing. As he starts to walk out to ask Makino for help with the red sash he hears Shanks and Benn talking to her about the plan and what time to be back by.
Seeing his only way to get help is to shout for her "MAKINOO!!! CAN YOU HELP ME PUT ON THE COSTUME PLEASE??!!"
"Oi oi Luffy you don't want me to help you? I thought you trusted me.." Shanks mopes after not being called on for help.
Makino walks to go help him out and then comes back but before turning the corner tells both of them to cover their eyes and telling Luffy to do the same.
"Okayyy!! 3! 2! 1! Open!"
Opening his eyes Luffy sees both Shanks and Benn as fancy vampires with a suit and other fancy stuff you would find.
Benn sees his kid dressed as his role model and sort of father although neither of them has ever said anything about their relationship, they could all feel it.
Shanks immediately starts tearing up seeing his son dressed as him and seeing just how much of an impact he has made on his life.
"Anchor..... Luffy..... WAAHAHHAHHH..... I love it so muchhhhh" crying out and pulling his mini-me into his arms.
Benn and Makino only watched as Luffy said that him and Makino made it and wanted it to be a surprise.
At 10 they finished trick or treating and started walking back, bags full of candy.
Luffys exhaustion was clear as his steps became more sluggish and his eyelids became too heavy to open up for long.
"Beck can you carry the bags of candy and i'll take him?" "Yeah he's pretty much a zombie now."
Feeling them both stop and shuffle around then then arms under his picking him up Luffy lets his exhaustion take over him as he is in safe arms. "Mmm papai? goin back to 'Kinos?"
Stunned by the new title given to him, Shanks runs him hand up and down Luffys back. "Yep we're going back to Makinos. You just rest we got you, your papais will make sure you get to bed safe."
