Brewing Gold

Summary:

In a world where the first direct contact is your soulmate and it turns gold.

For Kaelix, he receives a golden bite mark.

Work Text:

Kaelix looked so beautiful in the sunset.

His eyes crinkled with his smile, sparkling with electricity like they always were. His lips were curled up in that gentle, soft yet unfathomably fond smile he reserved for Claude and only Claude. The golden glow of the sun's last rays caught in the tangles of Kaelix's white hair and cupped the side of his face, brushing over the bridge of his nose, before tracing down the long lines of his body, as if they clung to him just as desperately as Claude did.

It made Kaelix look exactly like the saint he was. So pure, so damn good it made Claude want to rip his own heart out of his chest and offer it as penance for daring to even gaze upon him.

Claude inhaled slowly, the scent of the sunflowers, fresh air, and Kaelix sliding over his tongue. His fangs crept out from where they lay buried in his gums, completely of their own volition, and Claude flicked his tongue forward to meet them.

If Claude really had to do this, if he had to kill Kaelix, could he at least have a taste to remember him by?

"Kaelix," is what he means to say, when he opens his mouth to start speaking, but instead his mouth continues opening wider, the idea taking over his body. The idea of biting Kaelix, of tasting him. Of having Kaelix's blood in his mouth. Knowing his flavor, knowing him so much more intimately than anyone else could ever possibly fathom. So Claude lunges.

And Kaelix doesn't move. Doesn't react in time because for all his speed Kaelix is still sweet, trusting, Claude's Kaelix. And Claude would never hurt him, even as claws latch on to his shoulders and teeth sink into his neck.

Kaelix's soft gasp is musical to Claude's ears as he sways back from the force of the bite, one black-gloved hand automatically clutching Claude's white-covered shoulder. And then—

Claude's eyes went wide at the golden glow that filled his vision, his teeth instinctively digging in deeper.

It was like the sunlight itself was bursting from Kaelix's skin, and Claude had been the one to set it free with his fangs. It was bright and gorgeous, filling up Claude's vision completely.

Soulmates were rare. Incredibly rare. Only a few pairs of each generation would ever be blessed with the gift, but everyone knew the stories all the same. Your first direct touch, indicated by a golden glow and forever marked on your skin.

Kaelix's legs tangled with Claude's as they fell to the grass, Claude's no longer steady enough to support the both of them.

What more proof did he need that killing Kaelix would be wrong? The universe itself was telling him that they belonged together. They would not be separated; not while Claude still had any ounce of power left in his body.

Kaelix twitched, his fingers briefly squeezing Claude's shoulder as the shock, the bite, and the light all ran their course, leaving him to stare dazedly up at the star-filling sky.

Claude moaned gluttonously as the blood began to flow from Kaelix's wound, pure ambrosia on his tongue.

He curled closer into Kaelix from atop him; a wild animal protecting its meal, a man protecting his love, red staining golden teeth in a golden bite mark.
