Ultimately, this was the closest Jin Ling could get to materializing the concept of love in his thoughts. Perhaps that's it—his touch burns, not out of cruelty, and every time he touches you, you want more. Your skin becomes an altar, your flesh, an offering. There's a violent peace in allowing yourself to disappear inside another body. Holiness has never seemed so close, nor hell so comfortable.
Then you watch him chew on the rest of what's left of you, the lukewarm remains of a devotion that reeks of surrender. There's something divinely profane in the way he licks his fingers, the blood drying on his tongue like a vow. You think of saying enough, but the word dies drowned before it even reaches your lips. He smiles, and in the gesture there's a promise of destruction. You understand, finally, that to love is also to be consumed.
