Chapter Text
The bells chime for the last time at Yasogami high for Yu Narukami and Yosuke Hanamura. The stage cleared of all third years and the tears from Rise and the other underclassmen still leaving wet splotches on their shirts. Graduation felt sweeter knowing they were going to the same university.
The two boys finally get away from the fray, getting time to process it all with each other. Yu getting into the highly competitive Psychology major and Yosuke going to one of the best universities for Music and Dance, coincidentally figuring out that they ended up in the same school a week beforehand. The fill up the now-empty hallways with chatter between themselves, gradually making their way out to the bike rack. The rickety yellow bike poised in its familiar location, the brunette unlocking it with muscle-memory precision.
“I’m surprised this thing is still kicking, I’ve had it since I was 14” His lopsided smile appeared, causing Yu’s heart to skip a beat.
“Yeah, me too.” Yu smiles back, the breeze rustling the leaves of the trees nearby.
They make their way home, a route well known to them. Endless vapid conversation flows from the brunette, intently listened to by the silver-haired boy. The question of living together arises, with Yu giving a non-answer. He does not let up to Yosuke’s incessant questioning.
Yu stops abruptly by the staircase down to the riverside, staring out over the glistening water. He turns to face Yosuke, the breeze calming down as the sun lazily starts to set. Golden rays of light framing the brunette’s freckly face, his smile somehow rivalling the warmth of the sunset. Yosuke was so beautiful in this moment, Yu wanted to stay here forever.
Instead, he was about to ruin the serenity.
“Yosuke, there is something you need to know. I can’t in good conscious hide this from you any longer, especially if you want to live with me.”
Yosuke looks at Yu, confusion starting to settle onto his features. Yu never liked seeing his partner look at him that way, he wanted the smile back. He hoped he’d still see it again after this is all over.
“I’m bisexual. I like guys and girls.”
The brunette visibly tenses, his face showing an array of emotions so wide it is hard to discern any one of them. His shoulders slowly drop back down to their resting position, his posture returning to standard. Yu looks Yosuke in the eyes once more, seeing the other boy’s lips tug into a smile. Yu lets go of the breath he wasn’t aware of holding.
“You’re my best friend, my partner, Yu; I’m not going to kick you to the curb over that. You know DAMN WELL I have grown since Kanji.” He remarked, a wink following suit.
A minute of silence elapses, with the two boys sitting shoulder to shoulder looking out at the dwindling sunlight over the water.
“So, what’s your type of guy huh?” Yosuke followed up, an air of familiarity to the conversations they would use to have at sleepovers.
Yu’s heart felt like it was going to explode. His mouth goes dry, spitting out the excuse he will ‘figure it out eventually.’
He’d never tell him.
