Chapter 1: The first chapter that I planned

Chapter Text

”Bye guys! We’ll be back in a few days!” Wise and Belle waved at Astra and Evelyn as they drove off, taking the old Random Play van off down the road to a beach resort they had been invited to by some Waifei peninsula friends of theirs. Leaving their bangboo Eous here, under Astra Yao and Evelyn Chevalier.

“Bye bye! Have a fun trip!” The two wave at the van until they couldn’t see it anymore, then Astra turns to Eous, picking up the small robot with a grin. “We. Are going to have. SO MUCH FUN! Aren’t we Eous?” She laughs, and Evelyn checks her watch, more so a longstanding habit rather than actually looking at the time.

“There’s not much we have to do to take care of him other than getting the charging bay plugged in, so shall we go do that?” Astra nods, swinging the wiggly robot in her arms with a silly smile on her face.

“Yep!” They go up the elevator and walk through the door into Astra’s living room, a nice and somewhat messy area in her too-big apartment. (Evelyn at least knew the couch was able to withstand a lot, and was easy to clean. She also remembered when Astra chose the ugliest couch out of all her other options when she first moved in.)

Astra sets Eous down, and the little rabbit robot runs off to go explore and map out the place. Evelyn gets to work on setting up the charging station, leaving Astra to make some snacks or something. Even if Eous didn’t need to eat, she and Evelyn could stand to have something to munch on.

Looking through her cabinets, she decided some nachos would be the best- there was a game tonight anyways, and Evelyn’s secret enjoyment of football was no secret to Astra since they started dating.

So she gets some chips, cheese, guac, and olives, getting to work on making them. Evelyn goes into her room to change into something more comfortable than that usual bodysuit she wore, and Eous climbs onto the kitchen counter to watch her work.

A groove played in her head as she moved around the kitchen, dancing and humming to herself. It was fun, and after she put the dish in the oven, she danced around with Eous in her arms, laughing. It was just a moment of sunlight-filled happiness. Evelyn walks in, hoodie and sweatpants draping over her well-built frame, and Astra opens her arms for the blonde woman.

They dance together, with Eous dancing too. Blue by yung kai plays from the bluetooth speaker, filling the air. It’s incredibly domestic, and a nice moment of peace and quiet in such a loud and bustling city.

Their duet ends as the timer for the nachos goes off, to which Astra brings it out and sets it on a cooling rack. And then she gets a weird thought-

They could do this all the time if they were married.

The thought is random, both rose hued and drenched in that anxious feeling of dread she hated so much. Like that time on the Starloop tower, with that almost-massacre thing and Eve’s stunt to save her and the Phaethon twins. It was a beautiful night, and her music captivated people as usual, but people could’ve died that night.

Evelyn could’ve died that night.

Hell, Astra herself could’ve died.

Would marriage get them out of the way of that danger? Save them from another situation that could end with a funeral? Astra’s dance dies down, and Evelyn would be crazy and insane to not notice. Hell, Eous even seems to notice, giving her a curious look and cocking its head.

“Astra? Are you ok?” The singer looks at her bodyguard and sighs, leaning her head on Eve’s shoulder.

“I’m just remembering Starloop. Everything was so crazy that night, and I can’t help but think if we were even the slightest bit less lucky, things could have been…really bad. And dangerous as hell. I’m just worried that, uh, what if something like that happened again? And it went wrong?” She bites her lip, filled with an unseen dread that didn’t make sense to Astra, even as she and Evelyn were girlfriends. Was this the extent of the love she felt for Evelyn?

The blonde hums in response, gently carding her fingers through her girlfriend’s hair.

“I don’t think something like that would happen again. I was mainly the reason it happened at all- with Fugue and everything. Now that I’m not a liability, we should be safe.” Astra sighs, standing up straight and leaning against the counter.

“I know, I know! Logic isn’t hard to understand, but it’s- it’s the anxiety. You don’t just forget something like that, Eve. You know that.” Evelyn watches Astra closely, and watches her as a lover watches their beloved. None of that professional bullshit.

“I know you’re scared, Astra. I know that.” Eous nods along with her, adding happily to the conversation, and somehow managing to lighten the mood. Astra giggles a bit at that. Eve keeps going, trying not to crack a smile at the sight. “But I’m here for you; you don’t have to worry about anything like that happening ever again.”

“Thanks, Eve.” And then Astra’s lips are on Evelyn’s and her hands are on her hips. It’s gentle and fearful and charged with every emotion a human can feel. The room feels a tinge warmer, the lights a bit brighter, and everything feels ok.

No Hollows. No Starloop. No Fugue. No danger and death and loss. Just them and the kitchen and that adorable little rabbit robot they had to take care of.

Eous climbs up onto Astra’s back from the counter, loses the battle with her dress, and slides back down in defeat. They part, and the singer picks it up, smiling. Not crazy big, but a present grin that could only show happiness and nothing else. And then she knows she’s making the right decision as she pulls something out of her pocket and turns to her girlfriend.

“Evelyn Chevalier, will you marry me?” She gets down on one knee, her eyes gleaming with a hope unrivaled by anything or anyone else. Undying love.

Evelyn’s eyes widen, and Eous is jumping up and down on the counter in excitement. It takes a few moments for her to get her bearings, but when she can speak again, the words out of her mouth make the night taste sweet and the street lights glow.

“Yes. Yes please.”

Chapter Text

So. Astra proposed to Evelyn, yippee. Yay. It was all happy and loveydovey and shit, and because they were a rich lesbian couple, Astra was insisting it be a big and expensive thing that would make headlines, much to Evelyn’s dismay. (It would make headlines either way since Astra Yao was such a major superstar known throughout the world.)

They were sitting in the kitchen, Evelyn typing away at her keyboard and listing down all of Astra’s crazy ideas for the parties and weddings and all that. Eous, who was going to be picked up by Belle and Wise later in the day, sat on the table snoring away, almost like a real rabbit from the books.

“So we should hire, like, 4 different florists and have them all work together to make a HUGE thing of flowers, like HUGE. Like bigger than your tits and-“

”Astra stays on track.” Evelyn sighs, face flushing red at Astra’s comments. That hoe.

“Oh, right. We should also have a gigantinourmous buffet, with like noodles and boba and burgers and we’ll take requests from- OOH we should ask the Phaethon siblings for input too!” The blonde gives Astra a deadpan stare.

“Really?” The singer falls back in her chair, pouting.

”Fine, we won’t. Eve, do you have any ideas then?” Evelyn rolls her eyes, but it's fond.

“You have enough for the both of us.” Astra leans in, watching her closely. “But, I do have one request.”

”Ooh? What is it?”

”I want us to keep the guest list small.” The singer huffs, crossing her arms.

”And why would we do that? It’s a celebration, Eve! A celebration of our love! It has to be big and glorious and court half of New Eridu.” Evelyn shakes her head.

“Security measure. You know how I am.” Astra watches her, and realizes how serious she is about this.

“…Well, you are a security guard, so I guess it makes sense. But how many people would that even be? Like, 5?”

“Maximum 40. And that’s pushing it.” Astra sighs, but she can’t even find it in herself to be mad- this was just her nature. And she was, as she said, pushing her boundaries. After a moment, the singer speaks again.

”Alright, fine. But this better well be the best damn wedding I’ll ever have.” Evelyn smiles at her, thankful that her fiance was so flexible in her decisions.

”It’ll be the only wedding you’ll ever need to have.”

—-

“You may now kiss the bride…s!” Astra crashes her lips against Evelyn's, taking her shoulders in her hands. The event hall they had rented in the Starloop Tower erupts into applause, with as much enthusiasm as 47 people can provide.

It’s all beautiful and nice, and the pang of anxiety Evelyn feels mixes wonderfully with the overwhelming happiness.

And the awe she feels at the name Evelyn Chevalier-Yao.

The parties and fun activities pass quickly, and are overall a blur. People come to the events and don't come to the events, following the schedule the two had worked together to make leading up to today.

That night, after some fricklefrackling lovemaking, Astra speaks to Evelyn.

”I love you, wife.” Evelyn laughs a bit.

”You don’t have to just call me ‘wife.’ That’s weird.” Astra rolls her eyes, moving to lie directly on top of Evelyn in a pouty moment of rebellion. (This did make the blonde hyper aware of the situation on top of her own, but that’s beside the point.)

”But I want to! Besides, you ARE my wife now. Wife. WiFe. wIfE. Now it doesn’t even sound like a word! Damn…” She sighs, and Evelyn kisses the top of her head.

”I’m sorry, Ms.Yao. Wait no, Mrs. Chevalier-Yao.” Now it’s Astra’s turn to blush, but it’s a happy one.

”Just Astra, Eve. Just Astra.”

”Ok. Astra.” She kisses Astra’s head again, then pulls her upwards like a cat and kisses her neck. “Astra.” Her shoulder. “Astra.” Her chest. “Astra.” Her stomach. The singer leans into the touches, relishes the way her girlfriend- no, fiancé-, no, wife worships her like a goddess.

“I love you, Eve. I love you so much.”

”I love you too, Astra.”
