The crowd blurred around him, a sea of faces moving beneath the city lights— until Chuuya’s steps faltered.
That figure.
No… it couldn’t be.
But the moment his gaze locked onto a tall brunette, the world seemed to stop.
It was a feeling Chuuya couldn’t name— maybe he didn’t even want to.
Anger. Hatred. Longing. All of it tangled in his chest like barbed wire. The urge to chase after him burned beneath his skin, even after all these years.
There wasn’t a single doubt in his mind. The man standing there wasn’t a stranger.
It was him.
It was Dazai.
But in the blink of an eye, he was gone — swallowed by the crowd.
“Fuck… where did you go,” Chuuya muttered under his breath, weaving through the mass of people. He brushed past strangers, murmuring rushed apologies as he searched, heart pounding.
Then—
A tug on his wrist.
“It’s heartwarming,” a familiar voice drawled, low and taunting, “to see a dog trying to find its owner.”
Chuuya’s breath hitched. His eyes widened as he turned, face to face with that smirking brunette he thought he would never see again.
"How.." Chuuya whispered as he felt completely lost for words, it felt like his own eyes were playing tricks on him.
Chuuya's hands went up gently on Dazai's cheeks, so hestiant as if the moment could disappear.
before Chuuya could even register what he was doing, Dazai had already leaned into his touch.
Chuuya quickly retrived his hand— fuck, he needed to focus. the mackerel from /his/ world was here.
does that mean...
The others were here too? And how were they able to get here?
"Shit i have a shit ton of questions for you—"
"like a dog that never stops barking." Dazai retorted in a taunting sly tone. But before chuuya could even argue, Dazai had began dragging him towards the opposite direction
—
It had been a solid 25 minutes since they had starting walking and Chuuya had became more irritable every minute that went by— why was the asshole being so quiet!
Chuuya had tried to chew out any possible information by asking questions but the damn mackerel had dodged every single one!
"You need to start telling me at least something you waste of bandages!"
"ah, chibi~ your being inpatient" it took every bone in chuuya not to punch the answers out of dazai— but knowing him, he'd probably fuck with him even more.
Chuuya sighed in defeat, mumbling curses towards the man as the two continued to walk.
Could the mackerel be anger that he was gone for so long? It /had/ been 9 years since he came here
But why would /he/ care?
The bastard left him for four years, literally blew up his car as some fucked up goodbye.
Chuuya's train of thought was shortly interrupted as he felt himself bumped into the back of Dazai, he wanted to curse Dazai once again but before he could do anything, he had realised where they had stopped.
It was a remote cafe of the area that Chuuya had been to a couple of times, but what caught his eye the most was the familiar figures inside the establishment.
"They're here too? Just how many are you" Chuuya asked, his mind quickly scanning betwee the figures as they began approaching closer.
It was mostly the members from the ADA, like Atsushi and kunikida except it wasn't the people he knew well from this world.
"Hoyooo! You wouldn't believe the luck I'm having today" Dazai cheered as they entered the cafe and approached the group.
"And what luck are you presumably speaking of right now Dazai?" Kunikida grumbled, his other eye brow raised as he crossed his arms.
Man, Kunikida couldn't be any different even in different universes could he? Chuuya shook his head, waving off the thought.
He could compare how different the people he knew from his world and this one another time.
"I found my dog!" Dazai cheered— stepping back to finally reveal Chuuya.
"HAHH? WHO R U CALLING A DOG!" Chuuya retorted, feeling a blood muscle pop as he completely turns to look at Dazai
In the corner of Chuuya's eyes, he could see Atsushi and Kunikida faces turn whiter at the interaction, with kunikida immediately standing up
"DAZAI! ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND TO CALL THAT WOMAN YOUR DOG?"
kunikida yelled as he quickly approached the two and landing a hit on the back of Dazai's back, before quickly pulling dazai and himself into a bow.
"Please forgive us ma'am," Kunikida spoke and Atsushi quickly stood beside the two and offered a bow aswell "my partner here unfortunately doesn't know the concept of manners, so i truly apologize if this had offended you"
Chuuya blinked at the three before bursting into Laughter. Oh how could he have forgotten?
In this world, hes a /woman/. He had entirely completely forgotten it with the way Dazai hadn't even mentioned it and continued to treat him like normal the entire time.
It was something he needed to adjust to when he first came here but when he finally did? Oh god you would not believe how much he thrived.
"kunikida... Is she insane.." Atsushi loudly whispered as chuuya continued to laugh uncontrollably which kunikida responded in simply hitting his side with his elbow.
"I’m sorry... I’m sorry...” " Chuuya spoke, feeling tears form in his eyes from how much he was laughing. "it was...was...just so funny."
That's when Chuuya caught Dazai's expression. The brunette's eyes were widened, taking in chuuya's appearance completely.
Chuuya felt his pulse quicken. Damn it—why did Dazai have to look at him like that?
He caught himself in the reflection of the mirror as he realised what he was wearing today.
He was wearing wide, low-rise dark jeans that he had paired with a cute black top that revealed his back, and a bomber jacket with one sleeve slipping off his shoulder.
Shit, did the bastard not register that he was a woman or something?
"I should... Probably explain right?"
