Accidental Accident

Summary:

Kinich adored his new domestic lifestyle with his wife, Mualani. Waking up next to her every day was like a gift from the heavens.

One day, Kinich woke up early to make breakfast for Mualani. But, when he came back to wake her, all he found was an empty bed and a life-changing revelation.

Notes:

Hey guys, I'm back :D

Some issues in my personal life caused me to take a little break from both Genshin and Writing, but I'm back now with something light to start off.

(Also, I have severe baby fever right now, so you can expect more pregnancy and parenthood fluff)

Work Text:

It were those kinds of moments where Kinich truly believed there was nothing better in the whole wide world.

Those moments where he believed the whole world could be ending around them, and he wouldn't even bat an eye.

Kinich's eyes slowly fluttered open, and he held his hand up to shield himself from the soft, golden glow of the rising sun falling through the curtains. He took a deep breath. Clearly, he wasn't yet ready to get up and go on with his day. But sometimes, he felt like he didn't really need to. It was Sunday, after all, which meant no work. Which also meant he could spend the whole day with his wife....

Mualani.

He turned his head to the side, coming face to face with her. She was still sleeping, her soft features illuminated by the sunlight, streaking across her tanned face in thin stripes. Her eyelashes rested against her skin, and when they were laying there like that, she looked utterly at peace. Her chest slowly moved up and down with each calm breath she took, and her white hair was splayed out around her head like some kind of halo. Kinich couldn't deny she looked absolutely heavenly.

His Mualani.

His girl.

His wife.

It made him do things that were somewhat out of character for him. He just couldn't help it. He wanted to take care of her, love her in ways no one else could ever love her. Despite his very prominent desire to stay there, watch her sleep, admire how she looked, he carefully disentangled himself from the pearly white sheets. It was tradition, after all. Kinich wasn't home often with his work and all, but when he was, he'd make it a habit to get up before she did and cook breakfast for her.

He pressed a soft kiss to the side of her head. "I'll be right back, my love." He whispered. Even when sleeping, he wanted to make sure she knew how much he adored her.

~A few minutes later~

Huh.

Odd.

Mualani wasn't- and had never been one to sleep in. It was often that Kinich was in the middle of making breakfast when he'd feel her arms wrap around him, her cheery voice immediately filling the house.

But not today. Kinich had been in the kitchen cooking up some bacon and eggs for nearly half an hour now, and Mualani still hadn't showed up. It was odd, to say the least. Maybe she was just a little worn out from the past few days? Who is to say.

Still, she did have to wake up for breakfast eventually.

Kinich took off his green apron - One Mualani had gifted him for his birthday a few years ago - and hung it up on its usual spot by the cupboard before making his way over to their bedroom door. His slippers thudded softly against the floor, and he made sure not to make too much noise. Just in case she was still asleep. His hand rested on the silver doorknob, slowly turning it. The wooden door creaked slightly as he pushed it open, peeking into the room to-

Wait.

Where was she?

Kinich threw the door open a bit more hastily as soon as he noticed the absence of his wife in their bed. Where could she have gone? If she'd woken up, surely, she would've come look for him and said good morning. Worry settled low in his gut, despite him knowing she would most likely be fine. She was a strong, independent woman, after all. That was until the repulsive stench of something akin to vomit overtook that of his freshly made breakfast. It made his stomach churn, and not just because it smelled so horrible. Because there was only one other person it could've come from, if not him. His feet easily carried him over to the other side of the bedroom, and he had to muster up every bit of restraint in his body to not just throw open the bathroom door and barge in like a madman.

Instead, he opted for three soft knocks.

"Love, are you in there?" He shouted through the door, his voice trembling out of concern. That nagging feeling inside him that his lovely wife wasn't feeling great. That nagging feeling that only grew and began overtaking rational thought when he didn't get a response.

Three more knocks hit the door, a little louder now. "Darling, are you alright? Can I come in?"

He barely managed to catch it with how loudly his heart was pounding in his ears, but he picked up on a small, shaky breath from the other side of the door.

It was all he needed to throw that door open and barge in like he owned the place.

Which, to be fair, he did.

"Mualani, are you okay? I heard some-"

His breath, alongside the rest of that sentence, caught in his throat. She was standing there, wearing nothing but a white shirt that hung loosely over her shoulders. She was leaning against the vanity -Not just casually, but as if she actually needed the furniture to keep herself upright. Her face was slightly flushed, her bangs clinging to her forehead with sweat.

That alone was worrisome enough for Kinich, but wat really caught his attention was what she was looking at.

She was staring straight down at what appeared to be a long, white plastic stick with a pink cap. Even with Kinich barging into her privacy like a madman, her gaze was still fixed on the object. She looked down at it as if it had just changed the course of her entire life.

Because it had.

Kinich took one tentative step closer. Then another. He almost didn't dare approach anymore, but kept going until his hands found their way to her waist. He looked down.

Two lines.

Positive.

He couldn't speak. All he felt like he could do was stand there silently, staring in utter disbelief at the life-altering object.

"M-Mualani?" Kinich wasn't one to stutter or stumble over his words. But this time, things were much more serious than any of the previous times. He looked up at her, trying to gauge her reaction. She looked worried. Concerned. Scared? For a second, he thought she was going to cry. And she did.

But not without that stupidly soft smile that always made his heart flutter in his chest.

She let out a breathless chuckle, brining the hand that was previously gripping the vanity up to hold the pregnancy test with both hands. "W-We're...." She started, but had to pause to sniffle and brush away a stray tear that had rolled down her cheek. With a shaky voice, she continued. "We're going to be parents...."

She looks up at him.

He looks at her.

His hands drift from their spot on her waist over towards her still flat stomach, as if he could confirm what the test had already proven to be true. A breathy chuckle escaped his lips, which were still parted in surprise. "Yeah.... We are...."

Mualani's own hands drifted to where Kinich's rested on her belly, and she let out a soft laugh in disbelief. It was real. She was pregnant.

"So...." Kinich began, and with a lot of trouble, he tore his gaze from her stomach up to her face. "Y-You just found out?"

She chuckled again. "Y-Yeah, I... I had my suspicions for a while, but I.... I mean...."

The rest of her sentence died in her throat.

"We're going to be parents." Kinich breathed out, as if repeating it with more confidence, it would finally sink in. "We're going to have a baby."

Mualani was so absolutely, utterly weak for the way her husband was looking at her stomach. Like he couldn't get the fact in his head. She was pregnant. They were going to be parents.

"How are you feeling?" His gaze went back up to her.

She gave him a soft smile. "I'm okay. Just a bit nauseous. You know how it is. I'm still..... Still processing it, but...." She paused. Took a deep breath before looking Kinich straight in the eyes. "I am happy."

Kinich let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding. He had feared she may not have wanted the baby at all. Feared that she would have been scared or angry about the entire situation. So seeing her welcome this new situation with open arms was a great relief.

"I am too, babe."

Kinich whispered back, cupping her face and pressing a soft kiss to her lips.

"So happy...."
