Doubles

Summary:

Because now, he was seeing doubles. Doubles where there had not been any before. There were two dents in his bed, two toothbrushes in his bathroom, two pairs of boots by the door, and two heartbeats.

Work Text:

On a residential spacecraft, hurtling through the vast Frontier, Agent Moore ponders the last decade of his life. Seated in the cockpit, he closes his eyes and remembers.

From an IMC special agent, to a bounty hunter, to a mercenary under the banner of the formidable Apex Predators, Moore realizes that somewhere along the line, time got away from him.

Because now, he was seeing doubles. Doubles where there had not been any before. There were two dents in his bed, two toothbrushes in his bathroom, two pairs of boots by the door, and two heartbeats.

Two heartbeats that sang the same tune, that took up the same space and echoed off of the walls of this ship. Once just a means of transportation, between one job and the next, was now a home. A hub between him and his partner. A man that is ruthless and cocksure— who is snarky and full of innuendos, of bad jokes and a booming laugh.

A man that stood by Moore one day and stayed. Who gave Moore this doubled vision and aimed it towards something promising. Something tangible and theirs.

Perhaps, Moore thinks, home was simply wherever Blisk is, because wherever Blisk went, Moore would follow.
