Work Text:
As Isolde walked back to the castle, she thought about what she had witnessed.
Percival… Percival had said he loved both Nasiens and Anne.
She wasn’t really sure how to feel about it.
The concept was strange. The idea of loving two people at the same time was not something that had ever occurred to her.
Was it really okay for her to…?
Isolde shook her head rapidly. Her? No! This wasn’t about her!
Besides it wasn’t like she loved two people. Tristan was her only love. So why had she thought that in the first place?
Isolde wasn’t going to focus on the why though, not when she should be focusing on Anne. She hadn’t exactly taken to the idea Percival had suggested.
Lancelot had seemed pretty confident she’d come around to it once she had time to settle, though.
In that case, Isolde would wait. Give Anne some time to process and see how she felt later.
-
Later, it seemed, came when she was walking around the castle grounds hand-in-hand with Tristan.
Isolde caught sight of Anne along with Percival and Nasiens, a smile on her face.
It seemed Lancelot had been right. Anne really had come around to the idea once she got over the shock. That was great!
Anne looked really happy. It sure was a relief. Isolde smiled.
"Look, Sir Tristan! Look at how happy they are!" Isolde pointed out excitedly.
"Hmmm, they do look happy." Tristan agreed looking over at the three. Though he was confused as to why this was particularly notable for Isolde.
"They're probably together, all three of them, now, you know?"
"Really? How do you know that?" Tristan asked her.
"I was there when Percival confessed to both Anne and Nasiens. Nasiens seemed fine with it from the start but Anne wasn't at first but clearly she's changed her mind." That expression on her face was nothing if not genuine, after all.
"I see. That's nice, I'm happy for them." Tristan said happily, though Isolde hardly registered it as she remembered something.
She had thought, was quite convinced actually, that Tristan loved Lancelot.
Tristan loved her. She knew that.
But what about Lancelot? Did he fall out of love with Lancelot? Was she mistaken and he was never in love with Lancelot in the first place?
…Or, perhaps, he loved both her and Lancelot at the same time?
For some reason the idea of Tristan being interested in Lancelot too didn’t bother her. But when she thought of it being Ioradio or Izzy or anyone else, it was then the idea started to bother her.
Why? How odd that was.
“…Sir Tristan… do you…”
Isolde trialed off.
“Yes? Do I what?” Tristan gently prompted her to continue.
“Do you have feelings for Sir Lancelot?!”
Her question had been so rushed and so unexpected that Tristan needed a moment to process what she had even said.
“I...I…I…”
Isolde smiled at him reassuringly. “It’s alright. I don’t mind.”
It was one surprise after another. Tristan certainly hadn’t been expecting her to say that!
Isolde doubled down on reassuring him she was okay with it. “You can have us both if you want!”
Tristan just stared, not sure how to react at all.
Isolde realising he probably needed some time to think, waited patiently for him to do that.
So Tristan thought for a while. Did he love Lancelot? It wasn't something he'd really thought about. He knew he loved Isolde, though. Maybe if he compared his feelings for Lancelot to his feelings for Isolde, he would find the answer.
After some comparing he realized that yes. Yes he did love Lancelot, the same way he loved Isolde.
The idea of having both of them was a nice one, he had to admit. If Isolde really didn’t mind…
And he didn’t think she did. She sounded awfully sincere when she said she was okay with it.
“…Yes. I would like that.” Tristan confessed, honestly. "But what about you?"
"Me? I already said I was okay with it. I promise I wasn't lying." Isolde insisted, genuinely.
Tristan shook his head. "No, not that. What are your feelings for Lancelot, Isolde?"
Isolde blinked and blinked again.
“Um, if you’re not sure it might help to compare your feelings for me with your feelings for Lancelot. That’s what I did.” Tristan advised, seeing her at a loss.
“Okay… Okay, I’ll do that.”
And so, it was Tristan’s turn to wait as Isolde sorted out her feelings.
And as she did she too realised that her feelings for Lancelot and Tristan were the same. Perhaps that was why she was so okay with Lancelot but nobody else. Because she wanted Lancelot too.
”Is that… okay?” Isolde asked, nervously.
“Sure it is. You said it was okay if I had two people, right?”
“Right.” Isolde agreed, that was fine with her.
“And what about them?” Tristan asked gesturing in the direction of Percival, Anne and Nasiens, who for whatever had stopped their walk.
“So long as they’re happy.” Their relationship was also fine with her. She saw no issue with it so long as none of them did.
“Then why would it be a problem when it’s you?” Tristan gave her a reassuring smile and took both her hands in his. “Isolde, let’s confess to Lancelot together.”
Isolde started for a moment before she broke into a smile, reassured. “Yes!”
-
The next day they were preparing to do just that when they saw Lancelot.
“Oh, I’m so nervous.”
“Me too.” Tristan told her in response.
They didn’t have long to dwell on their nerves however, as they caught sight of Lancelot.
They’d committed to the idea and they were going to follow through with it, nerves and worries be damned.
So as soon as Lancelot was near they said it. “Please go out with us!”
“…”
Lancelot, about to greet them, was completely blindsided.
