“You always do that,” Mike whispered gently.
Will blinked. “Do what?”
“Pretend you’re fine right up until you’re not,” Mike said. “Like you’re trying not to be a problem.”
Will scoffed, but it came out weak. “You’re projecting.”
“Am I?” Mike took a half-step closer. Close enough that Will could smell his soap, clean and familiar, layered with something warmer underneath. “Because from where I’m standing, it looks like we’ve both been tiptoeing around the same thing.”
