And when you wake up next to him, in the middle of the night

Summary:

Enid woke with a start, hot tears trailing down her cheeks. Her brows furrowed as she tried to remember why she was crying…

She’d been dreaming of Wednesday again…

Notes:

Title comes from Chappell Roan’s good luck babe, where i got a sudden burst of inspiration.

I’m really new to writing and so I don’t know if this will be a one shot or what.

I’ve also only watched the first season so far.

Chapter Text

Enid woke with a start, hot tears trailing down her cheeks. Her brows furrowed as she tried to remember why she was crying…

Wednesday…

She’d been dreaming of Wednesday…

She sighed as she turned over, and jumped slightly, she’d forgotten that Ajax was in her bed, his face relaxed and that silly hat covering up his snakes.

She turned back over, that sinking feeling deep in her stomach too strong to bear, the guilt she felt for those dreams she had been having.

A shine caught her eye, her engagement ring. A small band of gold, embossed with a snake and a wolf, mouths wide, with the small diamond in the middle. Enid whimpered as she remembered how sweet Ajax had been, but he wasn’t Wednesday.

That night she had finally wolfed out, she’d only done it to save Wednesday. Stumbling out from the dark, naked save for a pink coat she’d found, her only thought was on Wednesday, even when Ajax approached her to comfort, she didn’t want him. Standing there, in front of the other students, as they seemed to indicate that Wednesday wasn’t there, it broke her heart, and when she came, stumbling out the dark, the joy she felt, was insurmountable.

She’d rushed over, and pulled her into a tight embrace, how she wanted to kiss her, and how sure she was that Wednesday wanted that too, but she couldn’t, not in front of the whole school, and not in front of Ajax too…

And then the moment was gone.

Wednesday had struggled with her newfound notoriety, and somehow become even more reclusive. While Enid had finally been fully accepted in the wolf pack, her mother was finally supportive, and she had a nice boyfriend.

Her life was good; she didn’t want to rock the boat, and so she and Wednesday had drifted apart. She still talked to Thing, giving him advice, but not as often as she’d like, and it hurt, being so close yet so far from Wednesday.

“Hey, you ok?”

Enid was brought back to herself as Ajax cradled her in his arms, she had been sobbing, her head in her hands.

Soon she drifted off to sleep, images of her wedding to Ajax, instead of making her happy, she felt a deep dread, until she finally slept, and those images turned to ones of her in a white dress, standing in front of Wednesday in black, before a crowd, and as she slept, she smiled.
