Carl shrugs his jacket off. “Can I take it out?” he asks.
Lemar glares at him but agrees. He takes the jacket from Carl’s hands and holds it close to the wound. Carl grabs the knife with both hands like he has experience ripping daggers out of people. He looks up at Lemar. His pupils are blown and his mouth open just enough that Lemar can see his pink tongue peek out. He moves like lightning when he rips the knife out and Lemar yelps and covers his leg with the jacket.
“Aw, you didn’t make a pretty noise,” Carl says.
“Sorry to disappoint,” Lemar says, breathing heavily.
“What did it feel like?” Carl asks.
