Dinners, Confessions, and Family Secrets

Decided to divert away from Day 3's prompt for this one.

Work Text:

Izuku was nervously pacing in the living room, waiting for Shouta to finish getting ready. They were supposed to be going to dinner at his dad's house, the first time Shouta would be meeting him. He had also heard that his little brother might be there too, which just made him groan. He was about as big a fan boy of Shouta's hero alias as Izuku was. Though that was mostly Izuku's own fault for always talking Shouta up.

"Ready," Shouta said, walking out in a dress shirt and pants. His hair was pulled up in a bun and you couldn't even tell he'd been almost killed at the USJ the week before. "How do I look?"

"Amazing,"Izuku answered, stepping forward to kiss his boyfriend. "Maybe we should cancel though. Dad's probably busy and you need to relax in your days off."

Shouta gave his annoyingly beautiful smile as he grabbed Izuku's hand, squeezing it comfortingly. "It will be okay, Izu. I want to know your family."

He huffed at that before letting Shouta lead him out the door. Izuku only lived thirty minutes by train but that gave him thirty minutes of his mind going around in circles and picking out eything wrong. The fact that he never told Shouta what his dad did. The fact that he never really even brought up the topic first. Shouta knew nothing about what he was getting into.

They got off the train, Izuku leading Shouta to a house that was well kept. It was just a normal house in a normal neighborhood. Izuku's childhood neighborhood in fact. If you didn't know who Izuku's father was, you would never even expect it.

He opened the door using the spare key he always carried, letting the two of them. He glanced around, looking for any experiments or anything that would lead Shouta to figure out who he was.

"Well, look at that," Izuku said, turning to Shouta. "He's not here, let's go."

Shouta spun him back around towards the foyer as he said, "It's going to be fine. My parents are probably worse."

With a huff, he took his shoes off and grabbed his house slippers along with the spare ones for Shouta. He ended up giving him a tour of the house as they waited though Izuku wasn't too upset. He still had time for Shouta to get bored of waiting.

"So what does your dad do?" Shouta asked.

Izuku beamed as he answered, "He studies quirks." It wasn't really a lie, he just... kind of... left a couple points out. "It's where I get my love of quirk analysis from."

"He was begging me to teach him as soon as he knew what quirks were," a voice said behind Izuku.

The green haired man spun around and hit the person behind him, snapping, "Don't do that!"

A tall white haired man just chuckled as he stepped back from the assault. He looked between the two, amusement in his eyes along with something else Izuku refused to think about.

"You must be Shouta," the man said with a kind smile. "You can call me Zen."

"Sho, this asshole is my dad," Izuku introduced with a sigh. "Who's late to a dinner that *he* insisted on."

"Apologies," his dad said, looking at his son placatingly. "I was getting us dinner from your favorite katsudon restaurant around the corner."

That was an absolute dirty trick. He was trying to bribe Izuku for his forgiveness and it was working. His dad always knew that he was a sucker for one particular restaurant. He would always get it when he knew Izuku was mad at him. Which meant there was a reason why he was trying to butter his son up.

Instead of saying anything, they went back downstairs to find the to go containers on the table already. There were only three places set but a fourth container on the table.

"Tell me he's not coming," Izuku groaned. "He'll be insufferable."

"Your brother is currently recruiting new employees," dad said, his voice not giving anything away. "He's going to try to stop by one he's done."

Izuku just groaned even as Shouta snickered at his dramatics. He shot a glare at his boyfriend as they all sat down. Shouta, for his part, didn't look the slightest bit apologetic. All he did was reach over and squeeze Izuku's hand.

"So, my son tells me you're in hero work and a teacher," Dad said, looking at Shouta as they ate. "I'm sure that takes a lot of time away from my son."

"Dad," Izuku hissed.

Shouta, for his part, didn't look the least but upset as he set his chopsticks down. He looked at Izuku's dad and said, "It's a lot of work, but your son was the one who convinced me to also start teaching. We make sure we have plenty of time for each other and he knows I'm only a call away if he needs anything."

"And if you're injured?"

Izuku put his face in his hands. Why couldn't they just eat before his dad decided to grill Shouta? He just hoped his dad didn't allude to his own job.

"Izuku is my emergency contact but I attempt to stay as safe as possible. The only extreme incident was last week when a villain group attacked my class."

"Oh, that was your class? It must've been frightening. Thank goodness All Might showed up to save the day."

Izuku's eyes narrowed at those words. No, not the words, the tone he was using. It didn't sound abnormal to someone who had only been around the man for about fifteen minutes so far, but to someone who grew up with the man, oh Izuku knew. And he wasn't happy.

Before he could say anything, they all heard the door open. Izuku turned to glare at his brother who walked into his view. If they knew about the attack on UA and hadn't said anything, he was going to murder someone. Probably Tomoura.

His brother's eyes widened as he stared at Shouta before they moved to Izuku. He could see fear in them which just confirmed everything for him. Tomoura had been the person behind the attack. The person behind Izuku's boyfriend almost dying.

"You," he growled out as he stood up. "Upstairs. Now."

"Izuku," Shouta said, grabbing his wrist. "No fighting tonight. Remember?"

"Not fighting," he stated, eyes never leaving his brother. "Just a conversation."

"I thought you didn't want me alone with yout dad."

Okay, now that was a cheap shot. With a huff, he slumped back into his chair. He could only hope that Tomoura wasn't stupid enough to say anything.

"I'll just take my," Tomoura began, reaching out for his food.

"Sit, Tomoura," Their dad said, looking at the boy. "We were just discussing the unfortunate villain attack that injured your brother's significant other."

If Izuku didn't already put the pieces away, the flinch definitely would have given it away. Tomoura sighed as he brought his things over to the empty seat, avoiding Izuku's gaze.

"Now," their dad said, turning back to Shouta. "Back to your busy schedule and my son not getting enough personal time."

"Dad!" Izuku exclaimed. "I get plenty of time with him. Between my analyst and my hero jobs, we're both plenty busy and we both make time for each other."

His dad just scoffed at the reminder that Izuku had become a hero. It wasn't that he didn't support his son but it had caused a strain on their relationship for a while. They had made up over time, but it was still a sore spot. Especially when most heroes now days were in it for the money.

He glanced over to see Shouta staring Tomoura down. He felt a lump in his stomach as he could see Shouta trying to piece things together. When the man asked, "Do I know you?" Izuku's mouth went dry.

"Uh..." Tomoura looked between Izuku and their dad before saying, "Maybe?"

"Your voice sounds familiar," Shouta mumbled. "And your name... I've heard it before."

Izuku frowned at that. Shouta didn't remember a lot of what happened to him because of his head injury. It was even more frustrating because now the pieces were coming together in his mind.

"Does the name Tomoura Shigaraki mean anything to you?" Izuku asked Shouta, his brother's safety be damned.

"It... sounds familiar," Shouta said, continuing to look at the man. "One of the villains said that name I think."

Tomoura scowled as he asked, "Were we really not that memorable?"

Shouta's quirk immediately flared as his chair was knocked back and he stood up. His hand immediately went up to his scarf that wasn't there, having left it at home at Izuku's insistance for this very reason though Izuku wouldn't admit it. He would gladly leave his little brother to Shouta, but he couldn't guarantee the kid would survive.

"Sho." Izuku tried to get him to calm down. His hand gently placed on Shouta's arm. "Sho, please. Let me handle him."

"Your brother's a villain," Shouta coldly stated, a voice he had never used towards Izuku before. It hurt. Worse than being slapped. "What? Did you get your license to spy on heroes?"

"What?" Izuku squawked indignantly. "No, of course not. Look, you know Mom and my dad got divorced when I was a kid. I spent weekends with Tomoura and Dad, but I never considered being a villain. Dad and I even fought when he found out I was in the hero course."

"Izuku is correct," his dad spoke up, Shouta turning his attention to the man. "You do have an extremely interesting quirk. However, my son cares for you too much for me to remove it from you. We have a rule of no quirk usage at the dinner table. If you'll take your seat."

Shouta scowled but blinked before setting his chair upright. Before he could sit down, however, Izuku grabbed his hand and motioned towards the stairs. They needed to talk, he needed to explain things to Shouta before his boyfriend could make his own assumptions.

The two of them walked up the stairs, stepping into Izuku's childhood room before the green haired teen closed the door. He turned to see Shouta absolutely fuming and furious. And it was directed at him, something that had never happened before.

"Shouta, I swear, I had no idea that Tomoura was the one who attacked you and the students," Izuku said, tears threatening to spill. "I haven't seen him in over three years. Dad and I didn't speak from the time I started at UA until three months ago."

"You never told me."

"I never thought I'd talk to them again," he said, blinking out the tears. "I chose heroics and you over my family because you are who I want. Not them. You say the word and we leave and I won't ever contact them again."

Shouta's steam seemed to run out as he stared at Izuku with a calculating gaze. Eventually, he sighed and sat on the bed as he muttered, "I don't know what to think. Your brother..." His gaze moved back to Izuku. "Your dad too?"

"Yeah," Izuku muttered, scratching the back of his head. "Y'know the stories we hear in the underground of the boogeyman? That's my dear old 200+ year old dad."

Shouta started laughing almost hysterically, immediately concerning Izuku. He knelt down in front of Shouta, his hands on his boyfriend's cheeks as he watched him. He didn't know what to do or what to say to make things better. Or if Shouta even believed him.

"Your family's worse than mine," Shouta finally said with a chuckle. "Izuku, I need you to promise me that you'll tell me these things. We can only do this if we don't hide things from each other."

"I promise," Izuku softly said. "I'll beat him up for hurting you as soon as dinner's done. We can't use quirks but I can still kick his ass."

"And we can't arrest him?" Shouta asked. "Your brother, not your dad."

"Unless I catch him in the act, no, but you have no agreement with them. Prison might be good for the idiot." He sighed, shaking his head. "I should also tell you that Tomoura is the grandson of All Might's mentor, right?"

Shouta closed his eyes, shaking his head. "Please don't tell me anymore. My brain is still trying to process that I want to marry into this stupid family even with knowing what I know."

Izuku's eyes widened. They had spoken about marriage once or twice, sure, but that was when they were both starting out as pros. It was discussions about how they should hold off until they were both settled into their careers. They hadn't spoken about getting married since then.

"Izuku?" He blinked at Shouta. "Hey, did I say something that upset you?"

"No," Izuku answered, shaking his head to clear it. "Sorry, I just... we haven't really talked about getting married in a few years."

"I know, but that's why I wanted to come to dinner with your dad. So I can ask him to marry you."

Izuku completely blue screened at those words. Shouta, his boyfriend for the past fifteen years wanted to marry him. He felt tears start to slide down his cheeks before he flung himself at the man, kissing him deeply.

"I don't care what my dad says," he whispered against Shouta's lips. "I'm marrying you, Shouta Aizawa. No take backs."

"Never."
