“Alright, sweetheart. You know the drill.” Bucky grinned. “Gumboots?”
Peter wiggled his toes and jumped on the spot. “Check!”
“Raincoat?”
Peter hugged the Peppa Pig fabric around his body. “Check!”
“The sillies?”
Peter giggled and ran into Bucky’s arms. “Daddy!”
“What?” Bucky feigned innocence. He kissed the side of Peter’s head. “Ready for the puddles?”
Peter took Bucky’s hand in answer, like a good boy, and could barely contain his excitement. He was practically radiating with it.
Bucky led Peter outside. It was raining lightly and their front yard was full of puddles. Peter tugged Bucky’s hand to get him to walk faster. Jumping in puddles was one of his favourite things to do.
“C’mon Daddy! Puddles are waitin’ for us…” Peter told him very seriously despite his adorably playful grin.
Bucky picked up the pace and chuckled. “Sorry, sorry.”
Peter let his hand go when they were in an area full of puddles, and beamed triumphantly. He ran up to a puddle and stopped just short.
Then, with a big lift up, Peter jumped into the puddle. It splashed around him and he laughed with glee. His Daddy watched as he kicked and ran through the puddles, jumping and splashing victoriously.
“Daddy?” Peter huffed, a little breathless.
“Yes, darling boy?”
“Can you jumpies with me?” Peter asked with a sweet tone, the kind Bucky could never refuse.
Bucky smirked. “C’mon little dove.” He held his hand out for Peter to take and they approached a puddle big enough for the two of them.
Standing side by side holding hands, Bucky and Peter jumped in the puddle and the water splashed the highest it had so far. Bucky had to admit it was fun. Especially seeing how happy it made Peter and how precious he looked in his gumboots and raincoat.
The rainbow umbrella protected them from most of the droplets still falling, but Peter stepped out from under it and danced in the rain until Bucky warned him he might catch a cold.
Peter got back under the umbrella with a dramatic sigh. He was disappointed, until he remembered…
“Can we make brownies now, Daddy bear?” He enquired happily.
Bucky kissed his flushed cheek. “‘Course we can, babydoll. Brownies with extra chocolate chips?”
“Yes please!” Peter chirped, and then he was dragging Bucky back to the house.
They spent the afternoon cooking brownies and eating them while watching movies.
