Living eternally, the blessing of the second life, another chance to rebirth, an honor to see in fruition. Those who have pleased Spawn ascended long ago, left with a new generation to fufill its destiny.
Some say its a blessing, a gift from their God, Spawn itself. Others argue its a curse, to live past all your family, friends, to become lonely, numb to the pain.
But those beliefs, belong to every individual, whether its one, or many. Assumption is decided by the eye of the beholder.
Grown up with those beliefs planted inside their mind, its hard to deny it; they never would deny a belief from Spawn. They couldnt bring themselves too, and that devoted follower.. Heir to carry out the grand sacrifice, Twotime.
Twotime didnt know when, or where; all they knew is that theyre chosen by Spawn itself, to embace it when the opportunity comes, to not dare let it slip from their grip.

Sunlight beams through windows, enlightening their bedroom; every book perfectly set in order alphabetically, every letter piled up on their desk stacked in an symmetrical line, not missing a beat. Every inch of their walls to their carpet were spotless. Twotime awoke, even unconscious they laid perfectly still with their blanket umoved, wrapped around them tightly like a hug. Every inch of sun that welcomes itself into Twotimes room highlights every perfection.
Despite Twotimes desire to stay curled up warmly, time waits for nobody.
As time passes, people grow in that time being both literal and metaphorically. The next in line was them, to lead the church with them on their new journey awaiting them, someday, oneday.
The weight of the world rests on their mere, fragile shoulders; like a diamond, cracking under pressure in an unforseen way.
Though, was this what Twotime desired? Is leading the church their destiny, their fate?
They couldn't help but wonder.
Is this what they wanted?

Twotime had seen the flyers, even in the distant church, hidden far away from society. When being sent out to collect outside ingredients or materials, they always stumbled upon it.
A poster, advertising a popular, wealthy and talented art school; for esteemed artists, one that could replicate the heavens itself with a mere pen or paintbrush.
Twotime's hands brushed over the contents, with a sense of longing; an art school? Where they could better their skills in their passion?
Twotime daydreamed, chuckling.
They shook their head, bittersweet. Twotime didn't stand a chance, but if given the opportunity... They'd take it, in a heartbeat.
They make their way back to church, burdens of boxes on their back, balancing perfectly while aligned with two buckets of ingredients held in their hands.

"Student." Amarah called out, Twotime's ears perk up at their mentor, they walk slowly before placing every weight on their shouders down, Amarah examined it, discovering contents. Twotime's curiosity wished to cast their eyes inside, but they didn't dare disobey orders.
"This will do nicely, bless your hardwork, Twotime." The priest's praise goes straight towards Twotimes heart, they smile brightly.
"Off you go, child." Amarah dismissed, grabbing the bucket of ingredients, scooping the heaviness into his arms.
"Spawn bless you."
Twotime bows, Amarah leaves.

Evening falls, pink and orange hues dance around in the sky before faded into a midnight.
It's November 21st.
The calendar swayed in the wind, Twotime turns to shut the unwelcomed open window, letting in an unbearable freezing temperature, Twotime crosses off the date.
The next day, they'll be informed if they've received that scholarship.
†
Sunlight bloomed once again, Twotime repeats their usual schedule.
A tap on their shoulder, it's their mentor, Amarah.
"Hello, Amarah!" Twotime bows elegantly, Amarah pulls out an envelope, it's laced with fancy ribbons.
Twotime's eyes stargaze at the mysterious envelope, Amarah extends a hand.
"A letter sent to you, my child." The mentor clarified, Twotime nods as their hands brush over the ribbon, unwrapping it.
Twotime's eyes lighten with newfound excitement.
"I've been accepted!"
Amarah watches Twotime jump around enthusiastically, his eyes never leaving. "That elite art school you've been eyeing?"
Twotime nods, they hold the letter tightly to their chest, against their heart.

Twotime was dressing themselves with the uniform sent alongside the letter, they looked quite fancy, it's as if this was tailored specifically for them!
Their gloves brush over their ruffle collar, fixing any imperfection in the mirror.
As far as they're aware, it's only a mere tour and introduction for today. But enough to get their heart pounding.

"Twotime, are you sure about this?" Their mentor asked, once more to confirm. Twotime had to continuously explain to him repeatedly.
"I'm sure, Amarah! This is my dream!" Twotime stated, they'd state it a million times if needed, Amarah signed reluctantly.
"Alright, but be careful." Was Amarah's firm words, his eyes flicking towards Twotime and the letter. "Remember, stay cautious, be wary."
"I'll be okay, seriously!" Twotime reassured one last time, before the priest gave in.
"Off you go, may Spawn bless you." Amarah said, waving his hand to the leaving Twotime, they waved back with a 'See you soon.' coming from their voice.

Twotime had never stepped foot in the town, atleast not unsupervised.
They thought, how could they kill time?
Twotime discovers a coffee shop, they've been here before once. It was quite nice if anything.
It's very fancy! The longer Twotime gazed, the more it blends into looking similar to a restaurant. The bell rings, Twotime is served immediately.
"Hello! My name is Elliot! What can I get for you?" The man held golden hair in sync with his skin, it illuminated in the sunlight.
Twotimes eyes scanned over the menu, in truth they've never tried much drinks, but they're willing to experiment!
"Iced Matcha, please!" Twotime asks, putting money on the counter, Elliot nods while counting.
"Want that in large, I assume?" Elliots hand is brought towards Twotimes, he gives back the overpayed amount of money. "Here's your change!"
Twotime stuffs the money into their bag, they sit down on the nearby seat.
Twotime looks outside, sun beaming down at them. Even so, it was still chilly.
Alongside winter comes Christmas, Twotime recalls; The holiday of giving, spending time with those dearest. Yet, Twotime wouldn't be able too, not this year.
Twotime prayed in silence, hands clapsed together. They prayed to Spawn, for the wellbeing of the church, and all it's members.
Twotime finishes, and on cue, so is their drink! Twotime steps foward, feeling the coldness reaching their hands.
"Thank you!" Twotime bows, people turn to stare at their gesture, Elliot laughs softly in return.
"It's really okay!! We hope you enjoy it!" Elliot waves enthusiastically, Twotime walks back, turning to leave when suddenly...
Twotimes body falls back, hitting the cold floor. They rub their head, drink spilled everywhere; they find through blurry vision, another figure on the floor before them.
"Oh my, I'm so sorry!" His voice calls, rushing over to Twotime despite the pounding in his head, using a wet wipe to desperately scrub Twotimes new, now stained uniform.
Twotime shakes their head, brought back to reality. They take in the closeness between them, the man also wears uniform attire; Except his was different, more... Defined, tailored, wealthy, one that fits a painter. Atop his braided hair is a brown wizard hat, now casting a shadow over Twotime as well.
"Ahh, I'm fine!" Twotimes voice squeaks, they had to admit... They were looking forward to that Matcha! Now their uniform is ruined alongside it.
"Seriously, I'll pay for your drink!" He keeps scrubbing, knowing the outcome will be futile anyway. He paused, realizing something.
"Hey, do you happen to be going the same school as me?" He asks, his deeper voice filled with curiosity. Twotime hesitates, in a sense they suppose so.
"Well, yes! But... Not yet." Twotime replies, the man gasps in return, reaching an even deeper guilty than earlier.
"Y.. You're new!?" He states, he helps Twotime to their feet as he apologizes frantically.
"I've probably created the worst first impression, haven't I? Here, I'll pay for your uniform as well!" He searches in his bag, placing quite a generous amount of money in Twotimes hands for compensation.
"Oh, why thank you..." Twotimes voice is as quiet as a whisper, yet he still heard.
"Excuse me!" Azure went to the front counter, talking to Elliot; In the meanwhile, a worker begins to clean the spill.
"Excuse me, please shift over." He asked, Twotime took in the odd apperance, a burger for a hat? They've never quite seen that before.
"Ah, yes! Of course." Twotime moves over, watching the leftover mess be cleaned. A wet sign now adorning the previous floor.
"Hello! Here you are." The wizard hat guy from earlier rejoices, holding out an Iced Matcha, just for Twotime.
And as normal, Twotime bows gracefully. "Thank you, I appreciate your donation and compensation!" Twotimes gratitude made the other smile, throwing an answer.
"You're welcome, still... My condolences for that, my mistake." He spoke, before a buzzing sound emerges from his bag. Twotimes head tilts, seeing the man now running past them, now outside and growing distant.
Twotime brushes it off, they continue to sip on their matcha. Thankfully, they still had their scarf to cover up the stain.

Twotime arrives to the train station, they'd be going to the main city now. All alone, they felt a sense of fear, yet excitement.
The doors open, Twotime waits patiently for the crowd to move past eachother, being making their way on. Finding a comfy seat, away from everyone else.
As Twotime waits to arrive at their destination, they thought about earlier.
They had to be honest, that man was quite handsome! He had such defined features, everything perfectly aligned.
They noticed how they weren't the only person staring at him in that moment, other people gasped in awe, froze in shock upon his entrance, even though it wasn't the most greatest entrance, peoples eyes seemed to praise his existence.
Twotime chuckled, was he that pretty?
Though, it wasn't their only thought. Twotimes mind returned to home, back inside church, it's not like they're homesick, not yet atleast.
But they wondered, how did someone like them be accepted? What is the meaning of it? It's not like their works were well-known.
Twotime had always been praised, uplifted for their writing, despite that every compliment felt forced, for the sake of being polite.
Twotime didn't want good, they wanted perfection! And with this, Twotime could improve, learn from professionals themselves, and maybe...
Their dream would come true.
The doors open, a sound playing over the intercom, Twotime had arrived.

Twotime navigated the bustling city, admiration filling every corner; It's rich, clean, advanced, and lively!!! The energy even ignited a smile on Twotimes face.
They had been given an address, yet through the large city, it's quite difficult to locate.
Twotime spotted various buildings, from malls, cinemas, to even casinos! Even though, Twotime wasn't exactly old enough, they didn't exactly look the part either.
Casino, it was the closest option!
Twotime enters via the revolving door, steps near silent over the red carpet. Twotimes ears are filled with noises of slot machines, betting, and adults drinking.
"Hey there!" A voice jumps out from the front counter, with a figure as well. "The name is Chance, what can I do for ya?"
This guy, he's wearing an expensive suit! He lifts his shades up to his fedora, revealing golden eyes beneath his gray hair. "Hm, you don't look old enough to be here, do you?" Chance added on, leaning in closer to get a better look.
"I'm not here for gambling!" Twotime admits, theres hypocrisy that lies in Chances statement, he doesn't look old enough either...
"Chance, was it?" Twotime repeats like a parrot, Chance dismissed them already knowing what they'll ask.
"Yeah, I get that question a lot! My parents own this casino, I only help run it! But once I become an adult, I'll take over ownership!" Chance enlightens, Twotime could understand to an extent.
"Isn't that still... Illegal?" Twotime tilts their head while asking, surely this bypasses the law in some way, right?
"Dunno." Chances tone was carefree, even if it was, he's not the one who'll get in trouble with the law anyway.
"So... Do you know where?" Twotime holds out the acceptance letter they recieved, pointing towards the address. Chances eyes widen for a moment, a grin appearing.
"Woah, fancy school!" Chance says, laughing at his own joke before bringing Twotime outside, pointing in a direction.
"You gotta go forward, then up the hill, and take a left! Then boom, you're there!" Chances arm collapses back down to his side, giving Twotime a pat on the shoulder.
"Seeya!" Chance waved, before heading back inside, and as the drill goes... Twotime bows, waving back optimistically.
"Thank you, Chance!"

Twotime huffed, hands gripped tightly onto the bag, hanging over their shoulder. Twotime looks up, the school is absolutely divine, the biggest highschool Twotime has ever seen!
Twotime tapped the front desk bell, soon enough the receptionist greets them quietly.
After a short chit-chat, Twotime is sitting on one of the chairs, waiting patiently. Eyeing up the uniform rack, eyes swapping between that and their stash of money, Twotime makes their way over.
They scroll through the shirts, landing on their size. They bring it to the front desk, and give payment for the new shirt.
Twotime looks around, before retreating to a bathroom, switching out their stained uniform for a new, clean one. They sigh in relief, feeling refreshed.
Twotime exits, just on time as they're called into the principals office. Twotimes eyes nearly pop out of the sockets, right before them stood a famous painter, if not one of the greatest! Twotime plops down into the seat nervously, seeing various pictures of his immaculate work over the polished walls.
As Twotime listens intently, their eyes stare intensely at a framed photo, laying on his desk. It's him, arms wrapped around a beautiful lady, supposingly his wife.
But there's something that catches Twotimes attention, yet throws them offguard just as hard...
That man, from the cafe... He's in this photo! Just below the famous painter, and his wife, is a guy adorned with that familiar, brown wizard hat! In the same attire from earlier.
"Are you looking at my son?" The principal asks, turning to look at the photo. Twotime blushes slighty, their pale complex turns into a light, rosy red via being caught in the act.
"His name is Azurewrath, Azure for short... He goes to this school, he's an inspiring painter like me." He informs, moving the photo closer to Twotime for their own examination if they needed.
"I called him earlier, he kept freaking out over bumping into some cute person, and spilling their drink all over them.." When Twotime heard those words, their shoulders tense, their hands move to cover their face slightly in embarassment.
"Aha, is that so?" Twotime asked, voice muffled a bit... Even if they tried hiding it, their nervousness was clear as day!
"Now that I mention it... You fit the description he gave quite well actually..." His words were calm, relaxed, and the complete opposite of Twotime! Their flushed reaction didn't go unnoticed.
"I must say, it would've left a bad first impression, wouldn't it? I made sure to talk to him regarding that." He adds on, his facial expression turning cold for a moment, before smiling. Twotime breathes in, trying to relax.
"Well, I'm sure that your son would've tried his best to make it up..." Twotime says, returning to their normal status. They knew they're the person he speaks of, and they've never been complimented so genuienly before! Atleast, it feels genuine.
At last, a knock arrives on the door. The painter smirks knowingly, his eyes facing the door. "Come in, Azure."
The door opens, and to no suprise... It's him again, in the flesh; holding a stack of worksheets, he kicks the door behind him shut.
Twotime wanted to refuse to turn around, but something inside their body couldn't resist, head snapping to Azure with eyes just as widened as his, they saw the way Azure nearly dropped everything.
"Azure, that's a nice name!" Twotime greets, testing the waters gently. Azure gulps, now flustered. Twotime was too, even if it's less visible compared to Azure.
"Nice to meet you!" Twotime adds onto their last statement, extending their hand.
Chapter 2: Art Exhibition.
Summary:
Twotime gets toured around the school by Azure, and he offers them to see an Art Exhibition! Who was Twotime to decline their newest friend?
Chapter Text
Before Twotime knew it, their back hit the wall alongside the shutting of a door.
Twotime was just as flustered as Azure, he seemed to have picked up on that. Noticing just how much their body shaked.
"I can explain!" Azure frantically stated, as if he already knew his father told Twotime something, something he shouldn't have.
"You're the lad... From the cafe." Twotime clarified, Azure responded with a quick 'yes' alongside a sharp inhale of breath.
"Have you been... Running?" Twotime points out, Azure was quite breathy, not so much sweaty though.
"Running errands, the usual." Azure responds, his hands put on his hips, before he pulls on his wizard hat to hide any flushed expression.
"My father, did he?"
"How you found me... Cute?"
Azure jolted at that, his heart skipped a beat. He clasped his hands together alongside bowing down flexibly. "Aha, I'm truly sorry! Those words were for his ears only!"
Twotime chuckles nervously, parallel to Azure. They quickly dismiss the apology, shaking their hands. "Thank you, really! I've never heard such genuine words from a stranger!"
Azure tilted his head at Twotime, eyebrows furrowing for a moment before grabbing Twotimes hand. "What timing, huh? I guess I'll be your tourist."
Twotimes hands interlock with Azures, walking in unison, each footstep mirrored. "Do you usually tour, Azure?" Twotime asks.
Azures face scrunches in thought, before shaking his head. His dark brown locks sway freely in the air. "No, I'm normally busy as a student myself, and being the son of the principal."
Twotimes pupils scan over the clean, pebble wall, below stood a cold, marble floor. "Not to mention, a famous painter!"
Azure rolls his eyes playfully, Twotime can tell how many times people have acknowledged him for that.
"That's a story for another day." Azure brought Twotime outside, cold breeze hitting them. It's quite nice.
"You're nonbinary, correct?" Azure asked for confirmation, upon seeing Twotime nod, he brought them to a unisex bathroom, pointing his finger towards it.
"You can use this bathroom, not everyone has access to it." He added on, Twotime raised an eyebrow at Azures words.
"Azure, how are you aware of my gender identity?" Twotime tilted their head, Azure quickly backtracked to avoid sounding creepy.
"Your student profile! You receive one upon enrolling, I checked it!" Azure quickly dragged Twotime along, and yet Twotime throws another question.
"So... You were looking at my student profile?"
Azure couldn't help by sigh softly, with a playful response.
"You make me sound like a creep!"

Before they knew it, Azure had already brought them around the entire school in one sitting, Twotime huffed frantically. "This school is so beautiful!"
"We value it with honor." Spoke Azure, with a ring of a bell, multiple students fly out of the doors. Each sliding door clicking in unison.
"Here." Azure pulls Twotime outside in haste, managing to avoid the overwhelming crowd. People begin to leave the school, in all various ways.
"My first day is official." Twotimes own voice echoes through the quiet, yet comfortable wind.
Azure nods, standing next to Twotime. Slowly watching the schools retreating population die down, until it was just them who remained.
"If I recall, it's winter." Twotime said with an undertone of confusion, for winter it's awfully warm... Twotime doesn't remember hearing about warm temperature in winter.
"It's still fall, in a way." Azure responded, looking at the fallen leaves that were slowly disappearing into snow day by day. "November 22nd, but winter starts on November 30th, so we're halfway."
Twotime lets out a long 'oh' of understandment, they turn to the fallen leaves as well. "So... It's transitioning, as we speak." Twotime takes in the newfound information, they've never been told that in the books!
"Were you not aware of that?" Azure tilts his head, almost chuckling. Twotime watches carefully, their eyes never leaving.
"Azure, aren't you going to go home?"
Azures suppressed giggles completely vanish, alongside his smile for a second. He turns his face away for just a moment, before facing Twotime again.
"Azure? Did I say something wrong?" Twotimes voice carries worry now, their inability to see Azures eyes hiding beneath the shadow of his wizard hat scares them, they couldn't make out his expression.
"N.. No! I just zoned out, my apologies!" Azure put on a smile again, one that doesn't exactly reach his eyes. "How rude of me, hm?"
Twotimes nerves slightly untense, but they couldn't shake off that feeling of something being off, they saw that look in Azure eyes, they're just as observant as he is, but... Why?
"Earth to Twotime?" Azure shakes Twotime by the shoulders, bringing the other back to reality, Twotime blinks.
"Ah, I suppose distractions are contagious." Twotime awkwardly chuckles, Azures hands let go, changing the topic.
"Anyway, I have a preposition for you, Twotime." Azure makes an offer, despite not directly stating it yet, Twotime is like a fish caught on the hook. "Tommorow, Saturday; There's an art exhibition, I know you're a writer, and I'm positive there's other writers you'll be able to meet! So... I'm offering..."
Azure pauses for a moment, his hands neatly folded in a clasped position. "Would you like to join me?" He speaks, tilting his head.
Twotime gasps, an art exhibition where they'll be able to meet other authors? Now their hearts pounding! "Yes, I'd love to join you, Azure!" Twotime bowed, lowering their head in respect among their eager response.

That night, Twotime is sitting on their bed inside their now, decorated dormitory! They relax against their pillow, pulling out a pen alongside a diary, turning on the nightlight next to their bedside.
Day 1.
Dear diary.
"This is my first day, arriving at a new school filled my heart with anxiety, but I've met this boy... He's apparently the principals son! He's quite sweet, and kind enough to grant me a tour; He offered for me to join him in an art exhibition tommorow, I'm planning to go with him, I'd consider him my first friend now, it's ironic because I met him first at a coffee shop, the smallest cafe in the nearby town."
Twotime had written in the diary with half-lidded eyes, by the time they deemed it finished, they fell into a sound sleep.
જ⁀➴
Twotime awoke, jumping out of bed. They arrange their bedsheets as perfectly as possible, before turning to their closet.
As Twotime gets changed out of their pajamas, they hear knocking at their door.
"Twotime, are you awake?" Came Azures muffled voice through the door, Twotimes hands fumbled, putting on the most formal clothes stashed inside their closet.
Twotime finishes buttoning up their shirt, nearly tripping over themselves as they sprint to the doorknob, turning it unlocked.
"Are you ready?" Azure asked, looking down at the slightly disheveled Twotime, he brushes a strand of hair away from their face.
"Ready as I'll ever be!" Replied Twotime.

Twotime took pursuit, following Azure. Their steps slowly behind, glancing around at the empty parking lot. "Azure, may I ask?"
Suddenly, a light emerges from behind them. Azure gently grasps Twotimes hand, leading them to a black sports car, driven by some sort of security guard.
"Enbys first!" Azure opened the door for Twotime, their cheeks involving into a light tint of pink, before stepping inside.
Azure enters behind, closing the door. It smells nice, and the leather seats are quite comfortable and clean, Twotimes hand puts their seatbelt over their shoulder, a soft click emerging.
"Quite the nice car..." Twotime praised, their hands running over the cars contents, the smooth material underneath their fingers.
"Have you ever been in a sports car before?" Azure asked, Twotime shook their head which caused him to chuckle.
"If you ever need a ride... Call me, anytime." Azure slipped a crunched, folded up paper concealing his phone number into Twotimes hands.
"How will I call you?" Twotime replied, they were aware the existence of technology, but their usage regarding it has always been incredibly strict, and limited, often supervised.
"Do you... Not have a phone?" Azure pulled out his own for reference, Twotime shook their head, and instead of chuckling this time around, his eyes widen for a moment.
"I'll get you one, and I'll teach you how to use it as well." Azure stated firmly, a warm smile returning. "But for now, you're aware where my dorm resides, just visit me there for the time being."

Azure once more opened the door for
Twotime, letting them out first. Azure waves before the car drives away, leaving them infront of a building, surrounded by others.
Unexpectedly, Azure grabs Twotime, spinning them around to face him before whispering. "People will likely interact with me, are you alright with navigating alone?"
Twotime looked Azure in the eyes, their midnight ones meeting his brown ones, that shine golden in the sun. "Yes, I'll be fine!" Twotime reassures.
And as Azure predicted, paparazzi started flashing cameras at him, microphones shoved into his face, he waves towards Twotime. "Call my name if you need me!"

Twotime walks across the smooth floor, taking in the sights of exquisite paintings, ranging from all sorts of arts...
Twotimes eyes were practically stars, how they dreamed to have their work displayed like this, for it to be considered perfect in society's eyes, something worthy of praise.
"Hey, I remember ya!" Called out a voice, Twotime swore they've heard it before...
Twotime flips around, seeing none other than Chance, they've remembered him since yesterdays encounter. "Chance, I remember you as well."
Chance laughed, putting a hand on Twotimes shoulder, patting it. "Hows art school treating ya?"
"Better than expected." Their reply was simple, but got the point across. Twotime wasn't expecting the current worker, and upcoming owner of the grand casino to go to an art exhibition!
"Hey, Ellie! Come meet my new friend!" Chance yelled to seemingly air, though behind the smoothly textured wall, a guy with golden hair pops out, locking eyes with Twotime.
"Oh, you again!" Said Elliot, walking up towards the pair and shaking Twotimes hand, Twotime held on longer than necessary.
Chances eyes swap between them profusely, unaware of the twos earlier meet at the cafe, quite the timing if anything!
"Wait, yall know each other?"
Elliot shakes his head. "They're a customer, We've never properly introduced outside the cafe." Chance nodded his head, understanding.
"Well, isn't that fate then?" Chance joked, but in reality it really was fate. Perhaps, it's Spawns way of telling them something?
Oh, Spawn... My God.

Twotime had been walking alongside Elliot and Chance, they're noticeably closer. Both physically, and friendship wise. Yet, Twotime didn't feel left out whatsoever, they trailed behind as they softly smiled at the camaraderie.
"Twotime!" Steps quickly traced behind the spawnist, revealing Azure. Twotime stops in their tracks.
"Hi, Azure!" Twotime waved lightly, their voice soft as a feather. Azure huffed before walking in step with Twotime. Neither of them seemed to notice Elliot and Chance staring back at them wide-eyed.
"You're friends with Azurewrath!?" Elliot shouted, his mouth wide agape. Twotime and Azure are snapped out of their engrossed conversation about artistry to realize the stares around them.
"Yes, Twotime is my friend." Azure stated, grabbing Twotimes arm. The look on the other pairs faces were priceless!
"Oh my coins!" Screamed Chance.

Before long, the sunset arrived. And once again that black sports car pulls into the newfound empty carpark.
The latter repeats as Twotime steps in first, they're smiling much more than earlier.
"Azure?" Twotime turned to face the artist next to them, he faces them with a raised eyebrow amongst a gentle look, prodding Twotime to carry on.
"Thank you, for today... It really meant a lot." Twotime spoke, their hands neatly folded onto their lap, Azure going out of his way to hangout with Twotime meant more than words could describe.
"Anytime." Azure stated it normally, unaware of how much Twotime truly appreciated his offer. "Because, You're my friend."
Those words that Azure spoke, it made Twotime freeze. They heard it earlier, but hearing it again with just them? It feels intimate, with more meaning.
Afterall, what are friends for?

Chapter Text
Today marks Sunday, Twotime would be attending church at this time, but due to the distance after Twotimes debut, It's not like they can easily return home with a snap of their finger.
Twotime left their dorm, nothing in mind really... It wasn't particularly the nicest day either. Rain poured like an avalanche, Twotime huffed before their eyes meet with a box of umbrellas with a sign.
"Free of use for students! Please return!"
How could Twotime say no to such blessing? They grabbed one out of the batch, it was dark purple with some floral design on it.
Twotime wasnt educated on plants or flowers, but they certainty found the topic interesting. They swooped the umbrella over their shoulder and began to walk.
Rain pelts at their umbrella, damping it before the raindrops slide off gracefully. Despite all the commotion and ruckus the clouds created, Twotimes ears picked up on something...
A noise, meow infact.
Twotimes ears perked, infact their whole body jolted. For some reason they acted on impact, as if protecting their own kind.
Twotime runs around a corner, they don't find a cat, rather... A bunny? Since when could bunnies make such catlike noises?
More importantly, what's a bunny doing out here? It's certainly rare to see one hopping around outside, especially in the rain!
Twotimes hands sink lower, holding the umbrella over the soaked bunny, it stomps its feet angrily, not at Twotime, but at the predicament.
Twotimes hand hesitantly reaches out, wanting to pet the wet bunny. At first, its just as hesitant as they were, but before long...
"Ahh, You're quite fluffy... I must say." Twotime praises, their head tilted as they pet the bunny, stimutamously cleaning the water of its fur. "Such a shame, I wish the church allowed such animals the likes of you."
Twotimes petting is neverending, careless they're likely getting wet for the sake of the fluffy bunny. Footsteps heavy, louder as water splashes against the sidewalk. Becoming damper.
"Hey, Spade! There you are!" Just then, a familiar figure drops to their knee. Scooping the bunny into their arms. Nuzzling it.
"Thank you, Strange—" Chance peeks under the umbrella to gracefully appreciate the so-called 'stranger' just to see Twotimes eyes staring back at him.
"Twotime!?"
"In the flesh, Gambler."
Chance laughs. "Seriously, again? What sort of luck do you even call this, huh?" He brings out a hefty cash reward from his pocket, placing the content into Twotimes hands.
Twotime stared down, mouth slightly agape as their knees reluctantly stand up straight. "C.. Chance!!! Dear Gambler... This must be a mistake!" Despite Twotimes own desires, Spawn certainty wouldn't approve of their greed! They tap Chance, trying to hand him the money back.
"Hey, Its yours! Ya know? For helping Spade?" Chance says, pushing the bunny closer to Twotime for emphasis.
"Its... Your bunny?" Twotime clarified, Chance nodded, after all its not like you'd pick up an animal that doesn't rightfully belong to you, would you?
"Yeah, Sorry... Bit of a troublemaker." Chance whistles, a flashy car Twotime was unaware of stood behind them, Chance placed Spade into its own designated, decorated spot in the front seat.
Twotime watched awkwardly, how many people here have nice, expensive and flashy cars while Twotime doesn't even own shoes yet?
"Arent your feet cold?" Chance asked, pointing towards Twotimes feet, the open-toe compression socks didn't exactly warm them... The coldness still soaked through the fabric, but Twotime couldn't complain. Its a gift from Spawn!
"I can move freely, more importantly, quietly. That is Spawns virtue and gift, and I will wear such blessing with honor and strength." Twotimes devotion was thick through the seriousness in their tone.
"You know, I was gonna head to a diner. If you're not gonna take the money, at least let me shout ya! My treat." Chance extends their hand gracefully, Twotime looks up and down.
"Apologies, Gambler. I'll have to decline."

Twotime was sat in Chances car, against their will of course. Unfortunately the odds were against them today, causing the rain to suddenly turn haywire and frantic, Chance didn't even give Twotime a choice... They dragged the spawnist into the car before they could finish blinking, let alone processing.
"Sorry." Chance whispered, his arm resting against the window. The car drives off while rain, even hail pounds against the glass. "I just couldn't bring myself to leave you there, all alone."
"I'm... Surprised, but I appreciate such hospitality." Was all Twotime said, it was all they needed to say.
જ⁀➴
And just like that, A rather tall, luxurious diner stood before them. It looked old, but not worn out, or at least worn out in the richest way possible.
"So what'cha want, Twotime?" Chance passes the menu towards Twotime, they stare blankly. They only sat there due to Chance forcing them to be there. No food ran through their mind at the moment, no food ever really did.
"I'm not peckish." Twotime answered, their fingertips tracing over the rim of the napkins.
Chance sighed. "You don't even want a drink? Cmon, let me treat ya!" Despite their insist of buying Twotime something, the spawnist stayed resilient.
"Gyahh... I guess there's no winning with you." The gambler spoke.
જ⁀➴
Chance digs into their food; They still brought food for Twotime although Twotime declined it firsthand, Chance wouldn't give up on their offer.
Conversation flowed freely, and by freely is Chance consistently carrying the topic, and Twotime listening to every said word.
Chance finishes their food just as desert arrived, and in the midst of the sweetness.
"You know, I've been considering enrolling into that art school." The gambler swallowed his chocolate syrup covered ice cream, Twotimes ears perked.
"The one I've enrolled into?" Twotime asked for clarification, Chance nods while sipping on a sundae, Twotime looked at how delicious the chocolate goodies looked, but such want is sinful.
"Yeah." Was Chances blunt response. "Though, I didn't really know what I wanted to do, ya know?" Rain starts to pour outside, its not heavy... Its a mix of light rain while the sun is still shining.
"You know, I've always found it odd why the weather does that!" Chance whips his head, pointing to the sunny sky, yet light rain pelting to the ground.
"Back to my point!" Chance clears their throat. "Art school, I think its cool, absolutely astonishing even! But I cant picture myself doing that."
Twotime unconsciously leaned closer at Chances words, its clear how intent they were to oh so eagerly listen to the gambler, its quite sweet. "To be honest, I can only picture myself doing drama or something... But I like how diverse the school is! It recognizes that art isn't just painting or drawing, but a spectrum."
"I believe painting happens to be the dominating course." Twotime said, their head tilted against the window. "Likewise, I must agree."
"Yeah, I don't think painting is my thing, ey?" Chance finished their food, pushing the dishes to the side. "Plus, I don't think any artist is good without a muse."
"A muse?" Twotime repeated the gamblers words. "But painting wasn't born with a 'muse' it was born by creativity itself."
"And that creativity is todays muse." Chance added on to Twotimes statement. "Perhaps I worded it wrong?"
"Perhaps."
"What I mean is... Without a purpose to draw, all your paintings lack meaning." Chance enlightened. Maybe its metaphorical, but Twotime could still understand.
"What is a muse to you?" Twotime asked.
"A purpose, even though by definition a muse is a person who brings inspiration."
"I understand, Chance."
Fog started to harass the windows, making its mark onto the horizon. "Because... Without purpose, an artist cannot discover that muse, without a start, there cannot be a beginning."
"And without an end, a story cannot finish." Chance finished Twotimes words, its almost like poetry, every word holds metaphors up to interpretation, but Twotime is sure they understand.
"I wasn't aware how deeply your emotions ran." Twotime stepped out of their seat, Chance so far, had displayed himself as overly playful and happy, but being able to have such an heartfelt, deep conversation felt... Oddly nice.
"Hehe, I know it's not like my usual demeanor!" Chance barked back. "I think I learnt something new about ya too!"
"Enlighten me."
"Nah, not telling!"
On the contrary, just as the duo exit the diner, a bolt of lightning strikes loudly, shaking the building alongside the flicker of street lights.
"What's wrong, Twotime? You're afraid of thunder?"
"Yes..."
"Don't worry, I gotcha! Lady luck will surely protect us!"
જ⁀➴
Twotime couldn't stop thinking about it.
That conversation earlier, Twotime didn't quite understand how much of an impact it left, they knew it'd affect them, but not this heavily!
They plopped down into the library, they take some interesting, eye-catching looking books away, beginning to analyse the contents, writing down notes in their diary.
Because... Without purpose, an artist cannot discover that muse, without a start, there cannot be a beginning.
Their own voice echoed through their mind.
A muse, huh?
"Ah, Twotime!"
"A.. Azure? Hello!"
Azure quickly ducked down, sitting next to Twotime. He took off his hat to avoid the recognizable tip pointing out, his lucious hair slightly damp, still braided.
Twotime often wondered how he kept himself in such perfect, mint condition?
"What are you reading?" Azure asked, his head moving closer to gaze down at the book.
"I'm not quite reading anything, rather an analysis." Twotime spoke, they turned to the front page, so that Azure would remember the name and cover if he ever wanted to read it himself.
"Trying to improve your own writing?" Azure tilted his head, he already knew the answer. He placed something in Twotimes hands.
"What is this?"
"A phone!"
Twotime looked down carefully, they've not been given the opportunity to simply gaze upon technology in decades! They flip over the rectangle device like a book.
"I remembered you didn't own one, I've gifted you the newest version. I hope you handle it with care!" Azure spoke, he was more focused on seeing Twotimes happiness, that was clearly obvious.
"I.. I will!" Twotime stood up, just for the sake of bowing. "Thank you, Azure! Will you teach me how to operate it?"
"Anytime!"
And just like that, Azure was explaining every feature possible, watching Twotime slowly start to understand the modern technology was quite entertaining.
"And... There you go! All set, if you have any troubles, call me!" Azure leaned against the bookshelf, Twotime stuffed the phone inside their pocket.
"I won't forget!" Twotime replied, electing a soft chuckle from Azure. "Can I ask you one thing, Azure?"
"Yeah, anything!"
"What is a muse to you?"
Azures smile became flatter, he was still smiling but once again, it didn't quite reach his eyes. Maybe its just something he does when he's deep in thought! What an odd habit.
"A muse?" Azure repeated. "Someone you love."
"I see... Everyone has their own interpretation." Twotime spoke, they felt intrigued by Azures answer, somebody you love? It makes an awful lot of sense.
"The eye of the beholder." Said Azure.
Everything goes quiet, Twotime looks up at Azure. Seeing the fog, and cloudy skies clear. Making way for a dazzling light to shine through the windows.
"Do you have someone you love, painter?" Twotime asked another question, curious as ever. Azures cheeks turned a rosy pink at the mention.
"Romance... Its quite foreign." Azure played with his hair, re-braiding the now, dry, soft and dark brown locks. "No, I don't love anyone."
"Love isn't just romantically." Twotime said.
"I know, but a muse to me... Is something far more intimate than a normal friend." Azure replied while he absentmindly tied the ending braid with a light purple ribbon.
"Ah, I see!"
"But... I love my friend!" Azure smiled, pointing at Twotime. "You've been a great friend so far!"
"H.. Huh!? I'm a good friend? But... I haven't done nearly as much as you've done for me!"
"That doesn't change anything! You're still my friend, y'know?" Azure laughed through the chaos.
"But... Why me? What about your other friends?" Twotime didn't know why Azure would hangout with them, Twotime wasn't exactly chatty to newcomers.
"I don't have other friends."
"You don't have any other friends than me?" Twotime repeated for clarification, Azure is such a nice person, how is that possible!?
"At least, none I consider my actual friends."
"Azure... I'm happy to accompany you, and I'll do it often if you're truly lonely!" Twotimes words held sympathy, but not pity. Their words spoke from someone who understood, who has been through the same page.
"Thats why you're my only friend, Twotime." Azure replied, he's no longer smiling. But he isn't sad either, his eyes hold a newfound gratitude that he's truly come to appreciate.
"You don't put expectations on me. You see me as Azure, not 'The son of that one famous painter' do you?" Azure didn't wait for a response. "You don't treat me as royalty, I see your shyness, but its purely because you're just shy, and not because of my presence.
"Azure... Why would I ever treat you differently?" Twotime grabbed Azures trembling hand, their own starts to shake in unison. "You're my dear friend, not just a painter! You're the nicest, and kindest person I've ever crossed paths with, how can I ever repay you?"
"Stay with me." Azure said. "Please stay my friend, forever."
"Forever?" Twotime repeated, even if they knew something as good as forever didn't truly exist, they'd promise they'd stay, till the day they're in their grave. "Forever." They repeat, its not a question now, but a promise.
"You have a Nightshade umbrella."
"Sorry?"
"That floral pattern, it's Nightshades."
Azures hand pokes at Twotimes umbrella, laced with Nightshade patterns adorning it, Twotime was completely unaware of that...
"Twotime, how are you with nicknames?"
"I appreciate the concept, even I find myself dreaming for such, I've never been adorned with one before..."
"Nightshade... Those are my favourite flowers."
"Is that so, Azure?"
"Yes, I'm calling you Nightshade."
Twotime smiled with wide teeth, they've never been given such an intimate nickname! Its only better they return the favour.
"How about... Azzy?" Twotime tests out the nickname on their tongue.
"Silly."
"Sorry."
"No, I like it! I like your silly nicknames!"
"Azzy it is then?"
"Likewise, Nightshade?"
Twotime nodded.

Hours flew by, they talked till dawn. To the point they were forced out of the library.
Weird, their diary wasn't full of any writing analysis anymore.
It showed writings, about everything new they learned about Azure, and the pages drew for miles.
The way he liked gardening as a side hobby, how his daily life was, how he dealt with fame, all the way down to basic like what his favourite color was, what he liked to read, and draw.
Its just like what he said, its so silly.
Monday, Twotime hadn't wrote in their diary for awhile, at least not anything regarding their day.
Though, if that meant they could fill the pages with their friend, then the idea doesn't sound too bad...
"Nightshade, can I talk with you?"
"Come in."
Light shines through the crack in the door, Azure stands still, before closing the door behind him.
"Sorry about yesterday, if I was being... A bit forward, I was feeling quite.. Emotional." Azure slightly tugged on his wizard hat, a common thing he did when nervous.
"That's okay! We all have our moments." Twotime spoke, looking at Azures embarrassed reaction, its quite cute.
"Azzy, a question?"
"Yes, Nightshade..?"
"The wizard hat." Said Twotime, pointing at their own head for emphasis. "What is the meaning of it?"
"The meaning..." Azure repeated, biting his lip for a moment, before turning over. "Are you sure you want to know?"
"If it's personal, you don't have too." Twotime reassured, gently nudging their shoulder against Azures. "But I'm rather curious."
"It was a gift, from my late mother." Azure looked down, deep in thought. He spoke in a positive tone to not crush the mood, but there's a deep sadness, and hurt in those eyes of his.
"My condolences." Twotime responded quietly, they never understood that feeling of losing someone close, never cried at funerals either; if anything, they found it a topic difficult to grasp at.
"I suppose its akin to a family heirloom, she never told me the significance of it." Azure took off the wizard hat, gently stroking it before putting it aside on display.
"A family heirloom?"
"Yes... Passed down for generations, and I wish she told me sooner... Before her... Demise." Azure curled up, just a bit in a protective manner.
"Azzy, may I ask... How'd she die?" Twotime almost winced, feeling a slight dread awaiting Azures response, unaware if they're crossing boundaries, or being insensitive.
"Kidnapped, but they say it was a 'quote' on 'quote' suicide."
"Suicide..?" Repeated Twotime.
"I was... Emotional. Thinking about it, but then I saw you, at the library." Azure enlightened, his gaze purely focused on Twotime, rather the hat. "I suppose I wanted to distract myself, from my thoughts."
"Ah, I see... So you interacted with me for a temporarily distraction?" Was what Twotime said, Azure froze before shaking his head.
"Yes, but I also wanted to talk to you."
"Awh, Azzy..."
"I suppose that's also why I enjoy the art of gardening, even as a side hobby." Azures words hung in the air, Twotime unconsciously rests against his shoulder, listening to his ranting.
"You're leaning on me." Azure pointed out.
"Ah, I can stop!—"
"No, I'm content with this."
...With an hour to spare before first period, Azure couldn't help but lean against Twotime too, his chin resting on Twotimes head. "My mother, she loved gardening... Likewise, as her son it was only natural I gained a green thumb for gardening too."
"I always found plants, and flowers interesting..." Twotime muffled, their voice slow and content, as if trying to keep themselves awake. "Azzy, you can always talk about gardening or botany to me, if you'd like."
"Thank you, Nightshade... Are you still tired?"
"Mm..."
"You can sleep, I'll awake you when the time comes."
"Thanks, Azzy..."
"Goodnight, Nightshade."
જ⁀➴
"Wake up..." Azures words stirred through Twotimes mind as they awoke, coming to their senses after their nap.
"Morning..." Twotime rubs their eyes, for an hour sleep. They're acting like they slept for decades.
"Come back to reality, those classes won't attend themselves!" Azure teases, a complete contrast to his behavior an hour earlier, yet it never left Twotimes memory, and it probably never will.
"I understand, I'm getting up..."
"I'll race ya!"
"H.. Hey!!! Azzy, not so early!"
"Seeya soon!"

Classes were educational, but fun in their own way, Twotime appreciated how the school operated, allowing kids to easily understand concepts with their own techniques.
Twotime turned to their diary in their pocket, from what it seems, its filled to the brim! With countless writings of Azure, rather than actual reflections.
Twotime had promised they'd journal their everyday, then show the church everything... But it seems they've had a drastic change of plans.
They felt almost guilty, but didn't blame Azure, it's their own boredom causing this, nothing else, no ulterior motives.
જ⁀➴
"Nightshade, aren't you going to eat?"
"Not peckish."
Azures eyes lingered on Twotime for a moment, before turning back to his own food. "May I ask you something?"
Twotime nods, Azure chews on his food with a hand over his mouth politely, before swallowing. "What brings you to this school?"
"What brings me..." Twotime repeated, their mind pondered. Their own ambition of course, but the churches everlasting help is what gained them a scholarship!
"Why... My church, of course!"
"What church do you attend?" Asked Azure.
Hm, was he not aware of the God himself, Spawn? How could one be unaware of his presence? Alas, is this a responsibility? To lead Azure to the light?
"Spawn."
"... Eh?" Azure tilted his head, before his eyes shoot open. "Oh, Spawn! I've heard such."
"Do you also believe in our lord and saviour, Spawn!?" Twotime grabbed Azure with immaculate strength, excitement booms through their voice.
"No, but I've heard about your beliefs, here and there." Azure said, turning on his phone to seemingly research something.
"Let me guide you, Azzy. I'll lead you to his sacred path, he will accept you with upmost love!" Twotime leaned forward, rattling the table. Azure acknowledged what they were saying, but his eyes were glued somewhere else...
"Spawn, is it a cult?"
"The dangers of the Spawn cult!"
"Multiple missing people have been found dead with the Spawn symbol carved in them! Police are currently investigating."
"So called 'Church' gets exposed for their lies!"
... Huh?
What is... This?
"Azzy, are you there?" Twotime waved their hand infront of Azure, the painter slammed his phone inside his pocket, a sheepish smile adorning his expression.
"Yes, I'm well!" Azures answer was eager, almost too eager. He looks around, trying to distract himself. "Nightshade!"
"Hm?"
"L.. Lets do baking tonight! At my dorm!"
Twotime paused, they had never... Been quite skilled in the arts of cooking, let alone baking. "Azzy, I'm afraid I'm not..."
"Don't know how to cook? Don't fret, I'll teach you!" Azure stood up, his mind keeps going back to those google searches, despite his efforts to forget.
"Oh, well if you insist!"
"G.. Great, see you later, Nightshade!"

And even after school, Azure did more research... And more, and more...

"Azure, come down! won't you?" Azures mothers voice echos from downstairs, the young Azure rushes down. A smile on his face.
"Mama!"
"Azure..."
Azures mother gets on one knee, meeting Azures level, she looks him in the eye. "Azure, I'm going to go to this night church, alright?" She spoke, holding her sons face gently. "They've been so kind, your father is busy, so he'll be away from home too, tell me you'll be nice to the babysitter?"
"Yes, Mama!" Azure says, but his mind didn't quite understand the concept, when his mother kissed him, and walked away, he followed.
"Ah, Azure... Mama is going alone..." She looked down to her child, seeing that pleading look on his face, her son tilts his head.
"But, I wanna come too!"
"Azure, you must understand... They wanted a private meeting with me, let go please—"
Azure hugged her leg, wrapping his legs around said leg. He grips with every strength he has in his small body.
Normally, Azure was a good boy. He wouldn't usually act out, unless something was wrong, and unfortunately...
His parents didn't notice that.
"Ah! Seven, you're here!" Azures mother waves to the babysitter, he's a teenager, brown locks, pink rimmed glasses, devil features, and quite a weird outfit.
"Yeah, whatever. Just give me the pay, alright? Then I'll take care of your..." 007n7 turns to Azure, a scorn on the (secret, at least for now.) exploiters face.
"He just turned twelve." Said the mother, she pushes her son towards the hacker, 007n7 grips rather tightly, in a way that makes Azure cry out.
"Mama, come back!" Azure did infact start crying, he knew something was wrong, that he couldn't let her go to that unknown church, no matter what.
If only someone had taken him seriously.
And that same night, she never came back. Being pronounced dead, four months after being missing. And it broke the family, more than anything.
"D.. Dad?" Azure whispered, looking up to his father, always constantly working. He didn't make time for Azure, not the way he used to.
Her death really changed everything.
"What?" He said, coldly. He was in grief, just as much as Azure was, however losing his wife hit him much harder, where the small Azure was still understanding the concept of death.
"Whens mama coming back..?"
"Out."
"H.. Huh?"
"I said get out!!!"
Azure backed away in fear, something he had never felt around his parents. They always comforted him when he was scared, why now?
Why is dad...
"Azurewrath, I said get OUT." Yelled the father, Azure quickly stammers out the door, having that same door being slammed on his face.
He ran back to his room, sobbing into his pillow. Dad, and Mother... They'd sing him lullabies, how they'd always protect him from the scary monsters that try hurt him.
"Hey."
Azures face rised from his soaked pillows, locking eyes with the babysitter, who stood there awkwardly, before sitting down on the bed.
"007n7?"
"Just... Call me Seven."
Azure nodded, sniffling through tears, while trying to also wipe the snot dripping alongside his tears.
The exploiter sighed, he wasn't good with emotions... He only became a babysitter because Azures family was rich, and it'd help pay 007n7s own loans, considering he could barely get by himself. "Hey, Azure... Don't listen to anything your jerk dad just told ya."
"Nnh... N.. No... He's not a jerk, he's my dad..." Azure responded through tears.
"Yeah, I said that." 007n7 sarcastically remarked, grabbing a tissue and using it to wipe the snot dripping. "Stop crying, won't you?"
"Sorry..." Azure muffled, holding the tissue against his nose while using his palm to rub at his red-rimmed eyes which had grown sore.
"Don't do that." 007n7 grabbed Azure, it's gentle along with his tone. That he reluctantly was showing, despite his usual demeanor. "Don't apologize."
Azure was confused, not understanding why in the moment, 007n7 was being... Gentle, treating him softly, which seems unlike the babysitter.
That soft look in 007n7s eyes, its one that understood. Someone who had been there, done that. "You know..." 007n7 whispered, getting closer.
"I got kicked out, had to live on my own. I was on the streets at one point, really rough time. Had nobody to rely on but myself." 007n7 ranted, Azure slightly rested against his shoulder, it's comforting in it's own unique way. "You're lucky, Azure... At least you still have a roof over your head..."
"I am grateful..." Azure whispers, just for 007n7 to shush him.
"Yeah, I know! Don't even know why I said that..." On a whim, 007n7 looks down at the pitiful, younger boy below him. Feeling an emotion he'd swore he'd never feel again.
Sympathy.
"Huh?" Azure felt a warm embrace, his hands resting at his sides. 007n7 pulled him in for a hug, placing his chin atop Azures head, if Azure didn't have anyone to rely on...
007n7 would be there, he wouldn't let Azure deal with the burden alone, not in the way he did.
"I wan't my mama..."
જ⁀➴
Azure gasped, his breathing heavy as he hears knocking on his door. His phone on his chest, still on that haunting google search.
"Azzy, I'm here!" Upon hearing the writers voice, Azure brung himself up. Hesitantly walking towards the door.
"Come in, Nightshade..."
