The Woodburning Stove

Summary:

It's small and a little out of place, but it keeps them warm, so Hoseok handles with care.

Notes:

Decided to throw in some fluff because I've been writing sad stuff and wanted to give everyone (including myself) a little break

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Hoseok saved himself the trouble of waking up fully by skipping over a stretch, though that sounded fantastic. He unlatched his boyfriend’s arms from around his waist, recieveing a grunt of disapproval in return, to which he agreed. Standing, he made his way across the room, already feeling the chill in the tips of his toes and the soles of his feet. If his nose was cold, he was too tired to care.

Twisting the knob and peeking through the lever, Hoseok could see what was left of their heating system was just coal and ash, only a few embers still left burning.

“Come back to bed,” Yoongi whined from across the room.

“Kind of busy,” Hoseok said with a lazy smile on his face.

“But I’m cold,” he drew out the last word.

“I’ll be back over in a minute, babe,” Hoseok turned his head to look at the silver haired boy. “Roll to my side of the bed, it’s probably warmer.” Yoongi obliged and hummed in satisfaction.

Returning his attention to the task at hand, Hoseok grabbed three pieces of wood and made note to pick up some more the next day. Only a few scrawny pieces remained after he had picked out the last of the good stuff.

He then opened the front of the stove and coughed at the smoke that bellowed in his face, swatting away at it until there was only a small stream of it left flowing from the opened door. He grabbed his poker and dug around for a minute before grabbing some kindling and a lighter. He positioned it toward the middle and was quite pleased when it caugt fire immediately and he didn’t have to reach his hand in to light it. He then picked up a few sticks sitting next to the stove and put them on his small flame, thending it as he went, and adding more when needed. When he was satisfied with the flame, he added the logs.

Smiling, Hoseok closed the door of the little woodburning stove that rest againt the far wall, a little out place, but not unloved, and let his feet shuffle him back to the comfor of his bed. He didn’t bother pushing Yoongi to the side, but instead curled up in the little sliver of mattress left. His boyfriend’s arms immediately found his waist, and his lips his own. Hoseok took the time to wrap his arms around Yoongi’s neck, lazy and comfortable.

“Thanks babe,” he said into the kiss.

“My pleasure,” Hoseok replied when they pulled back. Yoongi buried his head into Hoseok’s neck, shuffling to give him more room, to which he was thankful.

Hoseok thought this really was his pleasure. Anything with Yoongi was. He thought that he could really live like this forever. Just the two of them in their small little house, on the twenty five acres left to Yoongi that was mostly wooded, falling asleep to the sound of the crackling fire in the winter.

Oh yes, this was definitely his pleasure.
