Their beginning

Inspired by an ask on Tumblr

Work Text:

„Who are you?“

Liz couldn’t believe she heard him right.
“What did you say?” It must have been a mistake.
“I asked who you are, miss”, he repeated what she refused to accept.
Her lover was looking at her with his big green seemingly innocent eyes and she couldn’t find a lie, he really forgot about her.
First her hands, then her body started shaking. She tried to convinced herself that this was only a bad dream, that if he only pinched herself hard enough or stabbed herself with her sword she would wake up and he would lie by her side but she wasn’t able to.
He had been gone for a month, had gone missing on a mission and even though there had been search troops sent out to look for the Great Holy Knight he couldn’t be found but here he was.
Meliodas looked up to her. He stared at her awkwardly as tears started to drip down to earth from her face. Even while crying she didn’t stop looking him right into the eyes, a straightforward gaze that made his hearts stop a beat and he didn’t know why.

Liz couldn’t hold back her tears and she didn’t care. It was so painful. She thought she had lost him when he, the invincible Great Holy Knight of Danafor, disappeared without a trace, she had thought about many things. Her imagination ranged from ‘Did he leave because he doesn’t like us anymore?’ to ‘What if something happened to him? What if he’s dead?’ and most of them ended with her not seeing him ever again. When she ran into him (quite literally) on one of her missions all those thoughts were blown away in an instant because he was there and she didn’t have to worry about his well-being anymore. He was up and fine.
But losing him a second time, this time for real, broke her heart.
“What happened to you?”, she asked with a shaky voice.
He kept silent for a few seconds as if thinking about what to say.
“I don’t know”, he admitted. “About a month ago I woke up lying in the grass in a forest without a soul in sight. And without my memories.”
She blinked a few tears away. ‘Without memories’, she repeated in her head. ‘He doesn’t remember anything’
She took a few steps to him until he was in her reach and closed her arms around him pressing him against her body as if to never let him go again. It could neither ease her pain nor his but she refused to loosen her hug.

She didn’t know if he’d be able to regain his memories, if it was just a temporary memory loss or a permanent one, if it had to be cured or healed by itself.
But she knew what she was going to do.

“Your name is Meliodas and you’re the Great Holy Knight of Danafor. You are the most mysterious man I’ve ever known and you drive me crazy.”
She stopped for a moment to inhale.
“And I am Liz”
Her arms were still slung around him, pressing his face into her chest so she couldn’t see his face but for some reason she felt he was smiling. And then she felt his hands fondling her breasts. Without thinking she hit him on the head. He stumbled back one or two steps, then looked up to her again with a sad confused smile.

“I somehow felt like it”

“You haven’t changed a bit, pervert”, she laughed softly.

He might not remember her but he hadn’t changed and she would do whatever it takes to restore their relationship.
He came closer to her again and wiped her tears away with one of his sleeves. This was the beginning. Their beginning.
